Not because it's vege (all hail meat eaters!), but because it's an easy alternative to sandwiches. Sandwiches. I'm so over sandwiches. So, the deal is this; - Self-service-wise, they've got cold salad and hot food bars, charged by the weight. These can range from anything from chickpea salad, to vege lasagna - They also have counter food with such delights as risotto balls or pizza squares - Whether you be vegan, vege, wheat-alergic, or whateve else, there is defo something here for everyone. (Except meat-eaters. There's nothing here for you!) - They also have fresh loaves of bread (I bought some soda bread yesterday for about 3 euros which was delish), and jars of random stuff like olives, sundried tomatoes, yada yada - Also, juices, teas, etc Don't let the 'earthliness' of this place fool ya now. The food is absolutely De-lish. Really tasty, really filling, and after you've finished eating, it gives you that "I've just eaten something super healthy" smugness that's hard to beat. Go there. It is about 35 mins or so away from Dublin, so we stopped for lunch on our way down to Kilkenny. I ordered a Buddha Bowl, which gave me a little taste of just about everything (potatoes, brown rice, tofu curry, hummus, kale, Asian slaw, assorted sprouts, pickled red beets, kimchi). My husband ordered potatoes and Asian slaw (he's an omnivore, so he was less than thrilled to eat at a vegan restaurant; however, he was willing to do so because he loves me ). We split a piece of vegan carrot cake, which my husband said was really good. It was so very tasty; I completely cleaned my plate. I don't believe they used any oil, but there were nuts/seeds used in some of the items. If you ever get a chance to go to Ireland and you are anywhere close to The Happy Pear, it is definitely worth a detour.

It was a catering smorgasbord of sandwiches, cookies and other very tempting treats. Each day I'd dismiss myself for lunch, sneak over to Cocu and indulge in greens upon greens and very well prepared proteins. The first day I had the Viet Chicken which to be honest I found a bit water (like an inch of water at the bottom of my takeaway tin!) but the second day I fared better with the baked flaked salmon over sweet potato and spinach. (delicious!) I like the customized nature of things - you pick your box and then what you want it served over (add sweet potato for just 50p if you need a bit more filling up) and then a topping. I always went with the nutty topping and it added a nice crunch. Que moves fast. It's very reasonably priced (around 8-9 euro), and there are spots to sit and enjoy. It's run efficiently and by some very friendly folks, so even during the lunch rush you'll be in and out with your healthy box of lunching. Very good indeed!

I got the Middle Eastern chicken with avocado, feta, brown rice, green leaves and a vinegar type dressing. It was divine. Loads of everything, all really high quality, and left me with that full feeling but without feeling stodgy. It's all laid out really efficiently and clearly too, and the staff were smiley and on the ball. It's not hugely expensive, not hugely cheap, but with the quality and quantity you get, I think it's worth every penny.

But the green curry from Cornucopia was pretty bland....definitely the worst curry I have ever eaten in my life. And coconut curry is really hard to mess up, vegetarian or not. The brown rice came with some crunchy (from sitting too long). The salad bar was just okay as well. I am not sure how vegetarian/vegan meals are in Dublin, but this place is definitely not up to par in the states. That being said, I did like they had multi-level dining area and it was very comfortable being solo.

I went for the Vietnamese chicken, on brown rice with spinach and crushed almonds. It came with a peanut butter vinaigrette, which was light enough to flavour the dish, but not too oily or overpowering. As someone else posted, the servings do look small. But, that being said, I was fairly full after eating mine, so I think it may just look a bit small because of the container it was in. I do, however, wish there had been more meat on my dish. My serving was definitely less than one full chicken fillet. BUT, the chicken that was on there was SO tender and juicy. Their breakfast menu looks like quite good, and I look forward to going back and checking out the breakfast menu. It's nice having more healthy options available for lunch in this area, and it's a fairly good price for lunch (7.50 for the box of food unless you get extras). The juices and other drinks there are more than I would pay, but price wise their food is pretty much the same as a burrito/bowl at tolteca across the street. This place is good, and has promise. It just needs to work out a few kinks before I can give it more stars. If their meat portions were just a bit larger, and they can get into a groove where they speed their service up, I'd say this place will do great.
