Unfortunately, the person behind the counter, and our server, did not speak any English...and we didn't speak German. And the menu was in German. So we really struggled to order our breakfast. The display of chocolates was easy on the eyes and called to the chocolate lover within. The saleswoman introduced us to Lackerli, a kind of shortbread style cookie, but soft like a brownie. Only available in Basel, it make the trip back to the U.S.A. to be shared with friends. There was a great deal of construction going on right outside the door and we had to return because when we found it, it was closed, however, during the day we missed it the first time we walked past.
