Four traditionally furnished bedrooms (two queens, one king, and one king suite) have tasteful colors, lots of light, and crafted details. Each of the second floor bedrooms has an en suite bathroom with different combinations of tubs and/or showers. A huge bonus is a pleasant communal kitchen at the end of the wide hallway which has a small outside landing. We stayed in the Charles Baldwin Room with a lovely four-poster bed. Peggy reviews all breakfast choices for guests with an eye to any specific dietary needs and from continental to full breakfast has generous, delicious options. The welcoming entry opens to a main floor with a quiet living room, classic dining room, and enjoyable game/billiards room. This is not a remodel; this total rebuild was done with thoughtful planning and superb craftsmanship by the owners Dan and Peggy Fisher. Many aspects of the maple window trims, pocket doors, and wood flooring were custom made by Dan and his crew. The exterior is still in process. Wood was an important economic driver of Clinton, so the woodwork is a tribute to the town. We are already revising travel plans to revisit Fisher House. That says it all.

I am sorry that I have to leave a negative review when we had positive past experiences. My bad…read moreexperience started when I called about getting in early and was told she was in the middle of serving breakfast for 24 and would have to get back with me. That was just the beginning of the unprofessionalism. No apology, just short. The last time we had stayed in the Froggy cabin, it was not split into two cabins. Not knowing this, I just rented the one side. We had to walk through the bedroom to get to the one bathroom, day and night. We would not have rented the cabin if we knew it had one bathroom, especially since one guest is pregnant. When I called about it, I couldn't believe the non professional handling of the situation. I was told they cabin had always been that way and I was wrong. Not true! They split it the winter after we had stayed in 2021. Things would have turned out so differently if it had been handled professionally instead of confrontational. The adjacent cabin was not being rented for the next two nights and could have been offered to us at a discounted rate, but they were willing to not make any money on the empty side, plus disappoint us. We made it work with what we had and then on our last night, the adjacent cabin was rented. They must have had control of the thermostat (who would split cabins and have one thermostat?!) The bedroom and upstairs loft were so hot and stuffy! Two infants, as well as the parents, did not sleep well that night! You could hear their voices and cooking at 12:30, which they have the right to do, but we have the right not to hear it. I tried to work something out with the owner, but to no avail. I did receive a call asking me to accept an apology from the person I spoke with on the phone. (She manages to get one more confrontation in on this call!) My daughter in law's family spent thousands of dollars between the cabins and Mont Rest, but not again. So sad something could not have been worked out.

We arrived and immediately recognized that the cabin had not been cleaned -- or at least cleaned…read morewell. We accepted it, requested a vacuum cleaner, and cleaned for the next hour and a half. There were crumbs on the couch, dust on the coffee table, an ashtray with cigarettes still in it, a stained and uncleaned refrigerator/freezer interior, and a couple mouse droppings on the kitchen counter. We weren't too concerned with the mouse droppings; we understood that the cabins sit next to deep woods and that there might be the occasional pest. We also assumed the manager/owners were making a concerted effort to deal with any stray mouse. We looked around for some cleaning supplies and found them... in the filthiest closet I've ever seen (see photo). Also found: More mouse droppings. After cleaning, I sat down on the couch and immediately sank down to the floor, my knees sitting at my chin. Oh well, we had a chuckle, but at least the cabin was clean, or at least as clean as we could get it. After we returned from dinner in town, we sat down on the bed to watch some television. About 10 minutes into the movie, my wife yelled, "Oh my god there's a mouse!" Normally we aren't that alarmed, but this mouse was descending the wall (of rough-hewn wood) and onto a high shelf that sits over the television. I stood up on the bed and tried scaring the mouse back into the hole it came from. The hole itself I believe was an old stovepipe hole tastefully covered with some kind of framework. That cover was loose and the mouse had managed to easily squeeze through. This is when I noticed the mouse droppings on the uncleaned top shelf (see photo)! I spent the next 15 minutes trying to usher the mouse out the back door. I pulled the couch away to scare the mouse from its hiding place, and that's when I discovered the mother lode of mouse droppings. That's when we realized there was not actually a huge effort being applied to keep the cabin clean. Yes, we did find a mouse trap, but it was filthy and dusty, had been set off some time ago, and was without bait. I tried resetting it with bait but it would not work. This was the extent of the owner's efforts at rodent control. If you live next to deep woods, you might want to increase that effort. I went to the owner's house, which is on the property, to ask for more traps and duct tape to seal the frame over the hole. They had no duct tape but offered some shipping tape. And they had no traps save for two older traps with no bait which were offered to us much too late. I took the tape back to the cabin where my wife informed me a second mouse had emerged, immediately running past my wife, over to and climbing to the kitchen counter. That mouse bit through a couple food packages before my wife shooed it away; it climbed over the toaster (which I should have checked for droppings), up the wall and into a loft area unseen. My wife and I retreated to the living room/bedroom area to decide what to do next, and that's when we saw the THIRD mouse come out of the wall, descend to and run across the bed. Now there were three mice in the cabin, AND, we still heard more scratchings inside the wall from where the mice were coming -- there was a nest of mice!!! That's when we decided it was time to leave. I called a hotel and was lucky to get a room at 10:30 pm. (I'll have a glowing review of Savanna Inn and Suites later.) The girl/owner/manager showed up at the cabin around this time to offer the aforementioned traps. I asked if they had a refund policy, to which she said yes. She then told us about the mice, "Well, it's not really our fault." That was the clincher; we threw all of our stuff into our bags and left for the hotel. I've since tried several times to get a hold of the owners/manager of the Nest to ask for a refund -- (nor was I able to find a policy on their site). They haven't responded to any of those requests in any way, shape, or form. I still hope we can get our money back, but I'm scared some future potential customers are going to contract hantavirus.

The properties are advertised as secluded, that is not the case, there are theree units approx 50…read moreft from each other, our unit the winds was not clean at all, there was hair in the shower stall, and there was urine on the back of the toilet, do not know if the unit had been cleaned prior to our arrival, ther is no stove for cooking in the unit and we had to call the property owner because the micro wave did not work, he came down and played with teh control panel, it appears that someone prior to us banged it or hit is pretty good, When we were preparing to make a fire in the back yard a couple young children approached and wanted to know what we were doing, and they informed us that they lived here, and we did notice that they went back and forth between the other two units several times. We had no dish clothes, nor did we have any wash clothes for the bathroom. I did reach out to owner when we got home about our shortcomings and he said he was having cleaning lady issues, that he would refund our money, that was three weeks ago and have not seen it on my account, I told him that I would not post anything on line but since he has ignored my request for information from him, I am sounding off, I would not recommend this faciltiy to anyone that wants a clean secluded rental property. Avoid at All Costs!!!! I booked a 5-night stay but left…read moreafter 2 nights because it was unsafe and gross- the room smelled like cigarette smoke, felt damp, and the AC wasn't working properly. Several men were drinking in the hallway outside my room-go to the parking lot or someone else's room??! The hotel advertises a "24-hour cancellation policy," but I was told it only applies before check-in--not 24 hours before any night you want to cancel. This was NOT clearly explained at booking or check-in. When I asked to leave early the staff were unhelpful and the manager was unavailable. I was told that I would have to pay for the full five days. I had to get his staff to call the manager and talked to him on their cell phone. he was rude and dismissive. He finally agreed that he would "work it out" so that I could leave early. Then I was charged for an extra night after I had already left. The manager claimed I missed a 3 PM cancellation cutoff and cancelled at 5:37. Of course the 3pm thing was never disclosed to me. This place is poorly managed, with unclear policies and rude staff. I've disputed the charges with my credit card and reported the issue to the booking site. If you value your safety and money, avoid this hotel.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating an allowed us to check in early to get some rest. I am not sure if they know what that meant but after a very long travel day it was greatly appreciated. Staff was amazing...rooms were very clean and they were very helpful through out our entire stay. If we are ever in the area again we will most definitely be staying there.

The public restrooms are in this building however, and you will have people coming and going during your event. It wasn't too busy today so not a problem. There is plenty of open grassy area to play, didn't get enough wind to be able to fly the kites, but we were close! But we definitely had a lot of room to kick the soccer ball, throw the football and run around. The grill worked great, it's 4 feet long and we were able to cook plenty of burgers and hotdog and such for the family. There's also a couple of electrical outlets so we were able to plug-in a couple crockpots for beans and such. There are quite a few mice living in this facility, so just be aware of that, but you are out in the country! There are many hikes and such that leave from this location so you could use this as homebase with other family members being able to go out and take a great hike as well. We had a great day and I have a feeling this is going to become a tradition PS. Bring the bug spray :)
