Needless to say, had we gone ahead and sue it, serious compensation would come my way and my lawyers. Yet, when I decided to "let go" and give the landlord a chance to settle for the security deposit legally owned to me plus my financial damages along the way , Mr. Ayr fully supported me and quickly started and finished all the documentation and negotiations with the landlord, who completely changed from the very aggressive tone to a fast paced resolution. We'd had a really difficult contractor who had been verbally abusive, messy, and didn't finish our renovation in time for us to move into our house....and then abandoned the job. My wife and I had just bought our first home and decided to gut-rehab kitchen & bath, doing a bunch of the work ourselves. We were worried about getting our end done - we should've worried about the contractor who didn't pay subs (who refused to finish work), left big chunks of work until the DAY before we moved in, (on a 10 week project), was unlicensed, verbally abusive and tried to extort extra money from us. In the end, we just wanted him gone, but were worried about legal repercussions of firing him without paying him everything in the contract.
