This place blows my mind. First I should tell you how I heard about SR Harris. I was in a cute little fabric store in Portland Oregon and overheard someone talking about a crazy fabric warehouse in Minneapolis. I had to know what she was talking about! So I went and asked and then I knew the secret that is SR Harris! At first I was overwhelmed when I walked in this place. It's not organized much and all the designers are mixed in with the regular fabrics. But I soon got it down. 3 hours laters I walked out with $100 worth of goodies for every project I could think of, included a few feet of gold leather. Yes, it's as amazing as it sounds. This place is full of amazing and strange fabrics, most of which are 50% off. I also scored some Seven for All Mankind denim for $5 a yard, can you believe it? Some tips: Eat before you come and bring a snack, you'll be in here awhile. And with no windows you totally lose track of time. Bring a list of projects you want to make and fabric you'll need. This place has every fabric, including exclusive fabrics from companies like Nike and DKNY, etc. Whatever project you're buying for, if SR Harris doesn't have it then I doubt any other place will. It's not very organized, so it takes a while to find what you need, but in a way that's a good thing because you come across fabrics you wouldn't have otherwise. Sometimes when browsing the racks at SR Harris I am totally terrified that I will be buried in an avalanche of bolts of novelty printed polar fleece and be left to rot for weeks until someone finds my corpse. This is one of those places that makes me miss living in the Twin Cities. HUGE stacks of fabric - many leftover from clothing runs - some designer at terrific prices. Expect to climb and pull if you can't reach. It might be a good idea to bring a friend so they can help you pull out the bolts from the stacks. This place is AMAZING. Seriously. If you are looking for cheap fabric and tons of it, this is the place to go! The first time I walked in it was a little overwhelming. (Well, really, anytime I've walked in it's been a little overwhelming.) There's something like 30,000 square feet or warehouse filled with racks upon racks of fabric. And all of it is 50% off! I'm currently in the midst of the wedding planning process and am doing a lot of DIY. SR Harris has been my go-to for fabric because of the insane selection and the great prices. I had not been to this place in 10 years. I used to get lots of fabric for drapes and had visited frequently. What a change from 10 years ago! We walked in and I said hello to the old lady at the checkout. She clearly was cranky because she did not even acknowledge us. I asked her a question about the location of fabric. ( the place is quite big) She was very unfriendly and acted like I was bothering her. After trying to maneuver my cart through the messy dirty aisles, I came back up with another question. She did not like my question about leather and waved her finger at me. She also rolled her eyes. No one was in line and she wasn't busy so I did not understand her bitterness. We got our stuff and left. Why would you treat your customers like crap? I will never visit this place again. read more

I was shopping at this store last week, and a customer entered the store without a mask. An employee immediately called out that she could not enter without a mask. The customer stated that she could not wear one for medical reason. The employee became somewhat belligerent and stated "where's your note?" She told the customer if she didn't leave the premises she would call security to escort her away. I was appalled. There are people who cannot wear a mask due to health reasons, and no notes from Drs are needed!! For an employee to treat such a customer this way, to publicly humiliate her, (you could hear this employee 4 aisles away!) was terrible. Masks are a mandate, not a law, and there is room for some compassion for those whose health does not make mask wearing safe for them. SR Harris needs to educate their employees! read more

The staff is rude. The fabric for quilters are horrible. They have some of the ugliest fabric for quilts. I would rather order online and hope I get what I need. I have ordered from Hancocks of Paducah and received better customer service and better fabric for quilters. I would rather support local shops but SR Harris is a pass. read more

Went into this store once and left after being in there for two hours and could NOT find a thing like what I wanted. The fabric is stacked so hight and I could not even move most of what was stacked on top of what I wanted. There were very employees who were willing to help a person even dig out what you wanted. Customer service was terrible. Will never go back to this location again. However I will and do shop at the store in Burnsville. Much better store and Much CLEANER. easier to find the fabric that you want and is arranged in a much more workable system for a customer. read more

I found this place by pure luck last year and fell in love. It is the fabric store of my dreams, unfortunately it is 14 hours away by car. I plan to return regardless of the drive. Be sure you have 2-3 hours to browse all isles. You will find fabric you didn't know you needed. Prices are great, staff is super friendly and helpful. I had not been into this this store for about 25 years and recalled it being disorganized, dirty, and not a great selection but in reading the yelp reviews I decided to give it another chance. The good news: the isles are much more organized and the selection is definitely better than long ago. I was looking for quilting cotton for baby quilts and would have found what I needed. If my review were based only on selection I may have given 4 stars but here is The bad news: when I was in the back of the store there is an old machine against the wall (not is use?) that has many stickers on it that appear to be promoting a particular brand of religion, etc. Near the stickers was a portable radio tuned to a religious station and the host was an extremist catholic, what comedian Jim Gaffigan refers to as "Taliban catholic." Everyone has the right to strongly believe in any religion (or not) as they choose, however, that does not give you the right to try and thrust your choices on others, ESPECIALLY ONTO PAYING CUSTOMERS!!! I do not want to give any of my money to a business that does not understand the difference between using your morals in how you conduct your business and using your business as an opportunity to prosthelytize their brand of religion. It's insulting to the general public to do this when you conducting business with customers of of many and varying religions and cultures. What I saw and heard also seems to back up the review of 2018 that reads "What I witnessed was so unacceptable I will never shop here again. There was an Indian women who had cut the wrong length of a fabric and was trying to explain to the older gentlemen who worked there. He got agitated with her and very aggressive so she walked away. He started screaming about trump and how "these people think they can come to my county and get whatever they want". And trump this and that. I was blown away. Even after she walked away he kept coming at her. I've dealt with the rude people who work there because the fabric selection it great, but I will not stand by while old white men make racist comments. The worst part is he was mumbling about Muslims when she was clearly from India. I rather pay more at joanns than ever give them another cent." I adore this place. Every time I'm in MN I make a point to get there. I've bought whole gorgeous Hermes orange leather hides (hello gorgeous new headboard and bench), bolts and bolts of linen, fur... the fabric selection is amazing and if you've been looking for significant yardage for a sofa, drapes, etc, these are the best prices in the COUNTRY. True story: several years ago I found a tape-wrapped bundle of about 5 yards of gorgeous fabric marked 'Salamander $15". me to front desk: 'what's "Salamander" mean? they: "oh, it's a big-time designer fabric" me: 'OH.... do you mean Scalamandre...?' they: 'yes! that's it'! Unbelievable selection, I am overwhelmed by the selection each time I go. Come with an idea of what you want, or you could be lost in there for hours. They have tons of regular cotton, upholstery fabric, stretch, you name it. Also a great selection of trims and loads of zippers, each one is only 50 cents. They aren't kidding when they say it is all 50% off and in the remnant bins you can really score some great deals. The picture provided here on Yelp really is what the store looks like, and there are a lot of aisles. I think it is 30,000 sq feet of store, and each spare foot is crammed with fabric. I wouldn't suggest bringing small children, too many bolts of fabric hanging off of shelves and equipment in the back that really isn't protected in anyway. read more

HOWEVER, I'm surprised at the number of other reviewers who have said the staff is great. Was surprised at all the fabrics they had one bonus however they lost me with the fact that no staff to cut your fabric you have to do that yourself and nothing really explains that to you other then some written paper on the cutting table beside the worst experience I had was while looking at a bolt of fabric that I had taken out to look at because the lighting was horrible hard to see the true design of the fabric I went to put it back to where I got it from which was right in front of me and this staff working stated to me in a rude manner you need to put that down there with the pink I replied well I am just putti it back where I got it from she then stated well it doesn't go there and you need to put it with the pinks I almost walked out at this point cause it is not my responsibility or job to color coordinate your fabrics besides I was putting it back where I had taken it from which if they would have put it in with the pinks the. I guess I wouldn't have been told so rudely to put it in another spot I felt disrespected and I will not ever go back the quality of the fabric besides I felt wasn't good quality and the prices were quite high joanns has deals and I feel there are places that are more personalable and friendly I am buying something in your store I am wanting a little friendliness not Rude disrespectful staff I won't go back and don't suggest going to this establishment read more

I love S.H. Harris and I've been coming here since I was little with my mother to fabric. They have fabric stacked higher than you and tons to choose from. It's moderately organized so plan for some time when you come here to really look at everything they have and find what you want. It can be difficult to really find what you need sometimes, and there isn't a lot of new designs. You cut your own fabric here, I like this a lot. read more

I love this place and have shopped there for many years- however wont be going back anytime soon and am very sad , but - they play Rush Limbaugh radio- I mean its booming thru the store and I wont spend money in a place that promotes such hatred of women. I was harrasssed by another customer who got all excited when she heard it playing- she loved it and because i didnt love it, they prevented me fro cutting my fabric at those big tables. Do you want to be alone in a corner of that warehouse with a guy who has maybe 60 pounds on you and hes been listening to that crap everyday ?
