Sometimes, just sometimes, you have a craving for Thai food. For me it comes few and far between…read morekind of like indian food, maybe it's to do with curries or something, I don't know okay. But when that little craving comes along and bites me on the bum, I want good thai food. I don't want mediocre tastes kind of like thai but is really chinese food, I want thai. I'm not a big fan of driving far for takeaway so when Thai Mountain opened around the corner from me, I thought, let's go try that one. First impressions, oh, it's right next to the daycare I didn't want my kids to go to (not a reflection on the restaurant, just a fact) second impressions were 'wow, the waitresses are dressed up in traditional thai attire'... pretty impressive so far and I haven't even sat down yet. Thirdly, the place isn't that big, it's pretty small, so it's pretty hard squeezing a pram in there... as my husband and 2 kids found out. One of our traditions with thai restaurants is that we always order the Pad Thai... because it's the easiest judge of whether or not the place is a phony or the real thing. I was super impressed. They used fresh ingredients and the even had the chewy see through flat rice noodles... awesoooommmmee! The menu is pricey but a little bit posh. It's great for your Thai craving if you ever get one, and you are never let down. Try the Beef with cashew stirfry as well, they put something in the sauce that makes you want to lick the plate, but don't, that's not cool in a posh restaurant. I had to tell my husband that a few times, but then I tasted it and just try and stop me. I used a spoon though. So for the western suburbs, it's better than most, and when you get up to pay, they always have a fancy pants little floral decoration masterpiece by the counter, except it's made of carrot, or cabbage, or some vegetable - that's very Master Chef too.

'Royal Sri Thai' offers some of the best Thai food out of the Chapel Hill to Kenmore area. Over the…read moreyears I have mainly come here to get takeaway but have eaten in on a few occasions too. From what I can recall, this place offers much speedier and better service on a quiet night. Like many good Thai restaurants, the smell coming from the kitchen just hits you upon entering this place. I don't know about you but the smell of spring rolls and fried rice are enough to send my cravings into oblivion. Every dish I have had here has been great. The flavours and ingredients all seem very fresh. My favourite dish of theirs would probably be the 'Pad Thai'. Some restaurants can make their 'Pad Thai' very oily or their noodles can be too soggy but not at 'Royal Sri'. Another dish which is loved by my family is the "Chicken and Cashew nut" stir fry. And now, onto the service. The service can be a little slow on busier nights but I have never experienced it being too bad. Expect your takeaway to take up to 45 minutes so I would recommend ordering from home rather than on the spot. Otherwise, on quiet nights (week nights mainly), the service has generally been pretty great. 'Royal Sri Thai' had been around for a while and seems to have built up a reputation in the area. If you live around Chapel Hill and have not been here yet, what are you waiting for?

He hands me the menu's and I waste time pretending I'm reading all the other options, when I know exactly what I came here for. I wait 60 seconds before I call the waiter back. I order the 'Whole Red Snapper with Crunchy Garlic' and 'Thai Green Chicken Curry'. Oh you just can't go wrong- The fish; crispy on the outside, nice and soft in the inside. The curry; extremely tasty, except, I did find it to be a bit too soupy for my liking. But this never stops me from ordering it, I just eat more rice with it. This place is very accommodating for talkative families and for girls-night-out dinners as they have the sound absorbing spongy padding on the ceiling. Now, I wouldn't say you go there and treat the place like a pub and get as loud as you want, I think it's just an extra feature they have to make sure their customers have a pleasant meal with other diners voices absorbed into the ceiling as opposed to echoing about. I encourage anyone who's near Graceville to visit. Make sure you make reservations for Friday and Saturday nights as they usually have limited tables if you go without a booking.

But I'll have you know that this is the one I choose to go to over all the other ones, and that makes it super special. I go there for the playground. It's not only a McDonald's play area, it's under shade. Now for all you mums out there looking for a place to dump your 2-5 year old kiddies, this is the place. I know it doesn't sound like that big a deal, but it is! Do you know how many mums out there wish there was a place like McDonalds with a play area under shade? While they can talk, eat, be merry. There are millions. And that, my friend, is why this McDonalds is super special. You can lock those smelly little suckers up and they can't go anywhere while you have a chat with your friend, lover, some stranger... it's fantastic. You can finally grab those really precious few minutes if not more (there is rubber matting, it will reduce the time the child falls to when you actually have to get up and see to that they are okay because the rubber matting, sponges their fall mmm hmmm you see?)... and for free. FREE. Cheap food, no entry fee and free enclosed play area... these words are like music to a tired, restless, about to lose it mothers' ears. It sounds very hard to believe I know... shouldn't all play areas for McDonalds be under cover? The answer is NO people.... the answer is no. This one even has a McCafe and is now a 24 hour establishment... even better! I have driven around Centenary looking, the Hungry Jacks has a playground so under the sun the paint has started stripping and the metal has started looking very grimy. The KFC doesn't have one, the other ones are in a shopping centre... just trust me on this one. Take a breather, I never thought I'd say this, but go check this quinkydink out.
