Cute little Indonesian place in Central Amsterdam. Came here last month because I was cravin rijstaffel. Not many places in Amsterdam serve rijstaffel for 1 person, but Srikandi allowed me to do the rijstaffel for just me! I ordered the middle-priced rijstaffel because it included soto ayam (one of my favorite soups). Food was pretty standard Indonesian fare - including favorites like gado gado, rendang and chicken satay which were all very delicious (and some spicy). There were some items that I didn't recognize but I enjoyed them all. Reminded me of the Indonesian food I've had in Jogjakarta and Jakarta. Overall a great experience with good service and makanan sedap (yum food!). Hope to be back next time I'm in Amsterdam.

Great restaurant not far from the Rjiks Museum. We ordered the Rijsttafel and loved it. Highly recommend.

Very good rijs tafel and excellent service I missed Indonesian food and this place lived up to my fondest memories

    Delicious

Wonderful Rijsttafel! We ordered the small rijsttagel. Everything was delicious. The vegetables were very flavorful. Both the mild & spicy beef were tender and savory. The staff were warm and friendly. The atmosphere was both relaxing, comfortable and elegant. Wonderful view of boats passing on the canal. The Bintang beer was light and refreshing.

I went their because other yelpers were raving about this place. The place didn't dissappoint me. Downstairs gets pretty corwded but upstairs is more initmate and quite. The decor was very nice with indonesian paintings and sculptures. The server was super friendly and very helpful. I had the the lamb curry it was really delish. The meat was tender and succulent served with a coconut based curry that was super yummy. They brought me some hot sauce on the side to satisfy my appetite for hot spices. Boy that stuff was hot and made my eyes water. Overall great experience and super nce staff. The chef stopped by to say hello as well. He was super friendly and very nice.

I've never had Indonesian food but my husband loves it. OMGoodness! I hope all Indonesian food is this delicious! Every course was tasty and the pinda sauce (like a peanut sauce) was the best thing I could've had in my chicken. I had Nasi Goreng which is fried egg noodles and I was full almost half way through. Dine here. You won't be sorry.

Great finds, try the small plates. We were craving for some Indonesian food stumbled on this place walking back to the hotel. We decided to try it. It didn't disappoint.

This is a chicken preparation. Forgot the name!

Flavourful food & amazing service. Loved the place. Will certainly revisit whenever I am back to the city!

Dessert that came with our meal. Vanilla ice cream and fresh fruit with mango puree sauce on top.

The staff and place was really nice and they were really accommodating with a us having a baby with a stroller but we thought the food was just okay. We got the gastronomic meal set and the lamb set. Definitely a lot of food but we only liked a few of the dishes. Nothing really stood out to us. The soup, appetizer, and dessert were probably my favorite part of the meal. The toilet is downstairs and the steps are steep but there is a ledge on the toilet to change the baby's diapers if need to!

Visiting from US and traveling solo. Walked in on a Sunday night with no reservation and they had no issue seating me. As seems to be the norm in Amsterdam, you awkwardly sit at the table for a quite awhile waiting to order but once you do, food comes out super fast. Got the prix fixe duck meal and it was quite good. If I had more people I would have def gone for the Rijsttafel; it looked amazing and fun. Meal plus beer was under 40 euros, so not outrageous.

Street entrance across the canal from Hard Rock.

Came here after the evening Blue Boat cruise without a reservation. They were quite busy but found me a table promptly. Ordered the "Meat Lovers" combination which was "crispy pancakes with meat stuffing" (something like Chinese fried won ton), a sort of stewed beef dish with mixed vegetables, and a dessert of fruit and ice cream. All the dishes came out promptly and were quite tasty. The beef was spicy enough to be interesting although perhaps toned down a bit from what Indonesians would expect. The dining room is quiet and comfortable and the service was attentive. Altogether the dinner and 1/2 L of house wine cost 42 euros.

Overall: 5 stars…read more When I searched where I could partake on the Indonesian Rice Table feast in Amsterdam, Sampurna came up with their intriguing Satay Solo course that has a small plates of everything. I love the concept because it offers so much insight into the cuisine without having to consume in such large volumes. That said, this "solo" rice table was still food that was more than 2 meals worth for me, but much better than 12 meals worth. Love the food and the flavors, and was impressed by how well everything was cooked and balanced each other. [ PART I ] Chicken Skewers - Classic chicken satay with peanut sauce that is tender and works well with that sweet and savory profile. Beef Skewers - Love these beef skewers that have a strong meatiness to the bite. Goat Skewers - Very intriguing, not too gamey meat with a relatively sweet profile that works. Nasi Goreng - Well flavored fried rice that stands on its own but tastes even better with the rice plate. Bami Goreng - Deliciously decadent noodles powered by the bacon. Daging Smoor - I love the flavor profile of this sweet braised beef; its tender, its strong in flavor, and goes so well on top of the bed of rice. [ PART II ] Jagung Kacang Panjang - light clean dish with delicious vegetables; great balance to the menu. Salat Manga - Flavorful and refreshing mango salad in a peanut dressing that has sweet and nutty profile; this dish is bold in flavor but also provides some relief to the other heavier flavors on the menu. Sambal Goreng Telor - The sambal gives such a bold flavor to moisten and flavor the boiled egg; this would taste even better if the egg were soft boiled. Acar Ketimun - Much needed component of the rice table that provides acidity and freshness to contrast all the bold flavors of the menu. Serundeng - Toasted coconut and peanut topping I sprinkled onto the noodles; adds a tropical twist to the dish. Emping - Nutcrackers that are even more crisp than the shrimp crackers. Gives a density and sharp textural component. Food: +1 Presentation: E Price: +1 Atmosphere: E Service: E Menu: +2 Insta/Yelp/Beli: @amei_eats Insta/TikTok: @ameizing.race

We had a party of five and the table arrangement allows Service was quite friendly. Food quality was good. The dishes can be ordered individually but most/all of them can be ordered one of three family style options (essentially small, medium and large). The price is per person when ordered family style. The portions were not the largest but we had a few light eaters which allowed me to eat more. Overall, worth a try.

I don't have Indonesian food where I live, so was excited to try this in Amsterdam. I thought the dishes were all flavorful and gave a good mix of meat, vegetable, and rice dishes. The individual servings were small, but filling enough because of the heavy coconut milk used in most dishes. 1 star off: The attitude of the waitstaff was abysmal. First of all, their website does not offer reservations and they rarely answer their phones. So my family and I arrived at restaurant opening to get a table. The first thing they said to us was "Do you have a reservation? If you don't, I can only give you a table if you get out by 6:30PM." in a stern way. We said okay. The group that came after me also raised the issue that no one at the restaurant answers their phone for reservations. The waitstaff did not respond to that, but begrudging seated them. 1 star off: While we were ordering food, the waitstaff noticed that my son had a water bottle with him, and proceeded to give him a lecture that water bottles are not allowed and that we have to order water from them. He is a teenager...he does not know he was supposed to conceal his water bottle at this restaurant. We all ordered drinks, including water, but the experience left my family feeling unwelcomed.

There was a mix of different vegetable, fish and meat also perfect for the non meat eaters. The flavors of everything was so insanely good but my favorite was the Babi Kecap, pork braised in soy with cinnamon and star anise. The portions given was exactly the right amount for us all and the service was very kind. Definitely a must go for travelers!

The food is excellent, they have English menus for us tourists, they're affordable, and they have a nice beer list and plenty of tables -- making them maybe unique among Surinamese places. It is helpful to make a reservation, but if you didn't ... they have a lot of tables, and many turn over fast, so get in line and wait, you'll get a table eventually. They have a really good selection of vegetarian dishes, so much that you won't feel restricted at all. Spice levels are moderate, so if you're a pepper-head, order some sambal on the side. Do order some of the side dishes; I'm especially fond of the bara and the teloh with salt cod and peanut sauce. The staff were friendly and courteous, and I would gladly come back next time I'm in Amsterdam. Walked in on a Saturday evening around 7pm as a solo diner and the restaurant was packed. I didn't make reservations so was hoping they could squeeze me in and it was a yes, just had to wait for about 8-10 minutes until the bar area seating cleared up a bit. Score! Seated the menu was presented right away, after about 10 minutes staff asked for my order, I got: - Spang Makandra Special €17.50: this is a plate of several of the house specialities. Fried rice & noodles, braised chicken, grilled chicken satay, stir-fried long beans, egg, potato sambal and perkedel (fried potatoes). So tasty all around! Loooved the braised chicken was done very well, the peanut sauce used for the chicken satay was a bit on the sweeter side. The egg was scrambled (believe this was intentional for this preparation), the flavors were delicious! I can't comment to the authenticity since I'm no expert in Surinamese food though would certainly recommend this dish to all. - Dawet €3.00: if you're familiar with SE Asian shaved ice with palm sugar syrup, the flavor of this drink is reminiscent. While the color is a bright pepto bismol pink, it's mostly coconut milk with a strong flavor of gula malaka. Was on the sweeter side though glad for the coconut milk to balance out the spiciness of the hot sauce. - Beef rendang sandwich €6.50: sooo yummy. Considering the Indonesian and Chinese influences in Surinamese food, I've eaten my share of specifically Malaysian and Indonesian food in those countries and the curry flavors in the sandwich were prominent and super tasty. The spices were quite strong that even wrapped in foil and inside a plastic bag, my entire bag smelled like rendang (in a most moth-watering way lol) after carrying for some hours. The decor was cozy and filled the left side wall with pics of patrons of the past, opposite wall full length mirrors to make the space look larger. Seating enough for about 50-60 probably. Even though they were slammed, staff checked in periodically on how I was doing, refilled water, which indirectly led to an interesting conversation with another solo diner sitting at the bar. Strong recommend!

Definitely make a reservation as the narrow restaurant has limited seating. They turned away several parties on an early Thursday evening around 7 PM. A rijsttafel is an elaborate Indonesian meal that was adapted by the Dutch who colonized Indonesia. It consists of many, many side dishes served in small portions that are accompanied by rice prepared in several different ways. Although the dishes served are undoubtedly Indonesian, the rijsttafel's origins were colonial. The Dutch introduced the rice table to impress visitors with the exotic abundance of their colony while showcasing foods from different regions. Rijsttafels strive to feature an array of flavors, colors, degrees of spiciness and textures. The dishes may be crispy, crunchy, chewy, soft, hard or velvety. Such a beautiful display. A feast for the eyes as well as the palate. Ordered both the large and small Tujuh Maret's rice table. The larger rijsttafel includes all the specialties of the chef, composed of 18 different dishes. The smaller rice table can be ordered as mild-medium or medium spicy including chicken and tofu satay, yellow rice, jasmine rice, sweet and sour salads and prawn or rice crackers. Chicken dishes included (from least to most spicy): Ajam Opor-Chicken in a mild sauce of coconut and kurkuma. Ajam Roedjak-Chicken in a spicy sauce of red peppers and coconut. Ajam Rica Rica-Chicken in a spicy sauce of assorted peppers. Beef dishes included (from least to most spicy): Daging Smoor-Beef in a mild soy sauce and nutmeg Daging Rendang-Beef in a spicy sauce of various peppers and coconut Daging Belado-Beef in a spicy sauce of red peppers and tomatoes. Satay dishes included: Sate Ajam- Chicken satay with peanut sauce. Sate Tahu- Tofu satay with peanut sauce. Side dishes included: Gado Gado-Mixed vegetables with peanut butter sauce. Sambal Goreng Telor-Boiled egg with spicy sauce. Atjar Kuning Menado-Sweet and sour salad. Krupuk-Prawn crackers. Emping-Vegetarian crackers. Seroendeng-Grated coconut with peanuts. Nasi Putih-Steamed Jasmine rice. Nasi Kuning-Yellow rice with coconut and lemongrass. Although everything was delicious, it was definitely hard to remember what was what, even after our hostess was graciously described each of the 30 dishes that were on our rice tables. Labels would have helped. Finished with a Pandan crepe filled with coconut. A beautiful way to end a really nice evening in Amsterdam.

The Dutch adapted the dish during their colonization of Indonesia (1602-1942), basing it on the Indonesian feast nasi padang from West Sumatra. The word rijsttafel is Dutch and translates to "rice table". I was only visiting this beautiful city for a short time. My friend made a resy for us to enjoy a quaint and yummy meal at one of her go-to spots in the area. If you decide to forgo a resy and just walk in, you may have to wait, as there's very limited seating. We walked here and it was easy stroll, enjoying all the little shops & scenery along the way. When you walk in your greeted by a yummy smell of spices. It's definitely a family business. Tiny euro style restaurant. Food - we ordered the Rice table for 2. And bring your stomach space, because it's alot of food. We came hungry and still had leftovers. It's a progressive meal, from mild to spicy dishes. But I believe you can chose your level of spice with the server. 18 dishes come out all at once. Consisting of fish, chicken, beef, veg etc dishes plus rice. All with unique flavor and textures. Would highly suggest it if in the area. Even if it's not in your wheelhouse foodwise, still an interesting experience.
