Worst business I have been to. I went here because they were listed as an authorized Stihl Dealer, so I figured they would know what they are doing. Unfortunately, this was not the case. I went there to have 4 Stihl chainsaw chains professionally sharpened. When I arrived, 2 employees were there and barely greeted me. They both seemed very un-enthusiastic and there were no other customers. I got the feeling like this place was in the process of closing down. I left my 4 chains with them and came back the next day to pick them up. One chain was rejected due to a missing link, one of the remaining 3 chains seemed barely acceptable and the other 2 were obviously unacceptable. The top sharp portions of the chains were curved back at the tops of the links in the opposite direction of the blades' cutting direction. The employee tried to convince me that these curved sections would break off as soon as I started cutting and they would be fine. They just sharpened the chains on a machine and did not inspect them. I told them that this was not acceptable, and this is not how even brand new chains are delivered. Common sense would clearly dictate that this would not work very well and that this sharpening was unacceptable. They told me they would take them back and show the manager and the manager would sharpen them himself. I came back the next day and the curved portions were ground off in a rough fashion and 2 of the chains were still unacceptable. The manager didn't bother to come out and talk to me, not a good way to treat your customers. The employee tried to convince me that the curved cutting edges would just break off and not cause a problem. I disagreed and the employee then offered to sell me 2 new chains and he would credit me the re-sharpening fee. This offer clearly benefited him more than me as I now spent $$86.67 instead of the $43 just to re-sharpen my slightly used chains. But I accepted this as I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. I spent twice as much as I should have but at least I had 2 new chains. But, I was not offered any type of discount to cover my extra expense for the additional trip and time wasted there. The employees didn't care, they were not trained very well, management didn't care, communication was poor and barely existed. I will never go back. Stay far away! They picked up a tractor and generator. Had it for a week. Heard nothing and then finally called them three times on different days. Finally someone called back and said needed a new motor!!!! and a new carburetor!!! $1500. Later! We already knew what was wrong but couldn't fix it ourselves! We Only needed minor parts . Did not have SSR fix them. Told them to bring both back and still charged us $180. These people never even looked at either one! Liars and huge rip off. Just wanted to charge us for major work that wasn't even needed! Had someone else come yes come to our house and both were fixed next day for $350. read more

Wow, Kinda shocked at the negative reviews, Been going here since they opened and never had a problem with the service or work performed. Jose is very knowledgeable and friendly, same with Mike . Ive owned a lawn service for over 20 yrs and used to go to Ridgefield power, Long / Short, saved over 500 0n a new 48 inch scag compared to other places that sell them, I get all my service done there and have never had a problem. I am so sad to leave this kind of review....if you look at my reviews they are generally 4 star or better.....so it is with true sadness I leave this review.... I purchased a $ 3500 tractor from these folks about 6 years ago. They are close to my home.I like to do business with local businesses.....I believe in supporting our local economy and families! My first experience relative to services was for repair of a leaf blower - they charged me $ 180.00 for a tune up and didn't replace the spark plug,,,,when I brought this to their attention - they didn't respond....this was a number of years ago...lesson learned... After a number of years of not going to them for my service work, I decided to give them a second chance. Repairing the tractor I purchased from them and a tuneup on my generator - to the tune of $ 700.00 plus dollars. They are the most expensive per hour of labor. They repaired bott items....however, I still had problems with my tractor blowing smoke. They said the Briggs & Stratton engine was "tired" on probably needed to be replaced - estimated at $ 2000.00! OMG! I couldn't believe it! After this, I decided to return to my original service guy - in Southbury. Needless to say, the engine is not tired at all - the valve cover gaskets that the Danbury guys installed where installed incorrectly and damaged. The bolts we loose as well. Based on what my Southbury guys told me, all that it needed was new head gaskets, two of them, $ 20.00 for the set. With labor and delivery, to and from Danbury to Southbury....$ 500.00 complete - and the tractor is 100%. I have 300 hours on my tractor, the Southbury guy told me that he has customers who have over 3000 hours on the engine - so the engine is not tired! Not only did my Danbury guys not do the work correctly, they tried to sell me a new engine, and charged me way too much per hour for the work (Southbury guy is $ 70.00 an hour)...alot less than Danbury guys.... So, all my business will be going to Southbury guys.....which is about 15 miles away from my home, Danbury guy is 1 mile....go figure.... I am sorry to say that SSR has lost my business(again) and trust for good. While I will never say anything negative about them (other than this measured review)....I can never recommend them either. My suggestion is to buy & service your power equipment from Southbury guy - he knows his stuff - is very honest - and will always do the right thing for you! Hope you find this helpful! read more

Truly a top shelf saw dealership! I worked with Jose on a warranty claim for a recent Husqvarna pro saw and he was extremely knowledgeable and professional. He went above and beyond to work with Husqvarna as my advocate to get resolution to a problem I had with the saw. I had tried to work with Husqvarna myself prior to going to SSR Equipment and was extremely dissatisfied with Husqvarna's customer service. The only reason I would consider another Husqvarna product was because of Jose and SSR. Now I have a new saw shop in SSR Equipment and would consider them first for any of my equipment needs. read more

Well based on the reviews on this site, I thought I might be in for hundreds of dollars. I wanted to respond with a counterpoint. I rented a wood chipper over the weekend. Within an hour of picking it up, I made a mistake and clogged it up. I returned the chipper and they said "no problem, things happen" and immediately gave me another one. I bought a snowblower from them last year - very nice professional help picking one out, explaining how to use it etc. They did a prep on it (with a charge) and worked great - they set the height and tested it out etc. When the starter went (after just a few uses) they replaced it under warrantee. The only bad thing is that if you don't have a trailer to get equipment to/from them for service/repair, they clip you per incident. I had to pay $45 to use one of their trailers for my busted blower, even though the actual parts & labor were covered. So far everyone has been nice, knowledgeable and straight forward - not a shop to say one thing and do something else. read more

They ground my chipper blades on a large angle somehow so I brought them back and a young guy was very nice and recognized the issue. When he went in the back to show the more senior members of the team is when the customer sat went down hill. The owner inspected them and took an accusatory tone about how I miss matched the blades. Then the other guy wanted to regained them which would make them too small to use anymore and require large adjustments on the machine to use. After 20 minutes I got a check refunding the grinding and when I asked about throwing something in to offset the loss a little and I received the dead stair and sorry. So I loose out on a set of blades and 10-20 hrs of production and I figured they would throw a couple chainsaw chains my way. So much for customer satisfaction. I see why Newtown Power and Bethel Power do much better and take care of their customers. read more

I rented equipment from them for a landscaping project. I specifically asked for the total cost all in while on the phone with the rep. I even asked if fuel was included. The rep told me "yes, a full tank is included". When I got the bill it was 50% higher!! The $300 cost was now $450. When I asked why it wasn't the confirmed price, they said they added fuel and delivery charges. When I reminded them that I confirmed the price over the phone, they said the extra charges were in the contract that I signed. This was a piece of paper I signed in the middle of the street while the delivery truck was blocking traffic on one side of the street. My bad for not sitting down and reading through everything, but come on!! Not once, either during the initial call or with the delivery driver did anyone ever mention any extra costs. Be very wary of their business practices at the very least. Better yet, go to Newtown Power or Taylor Rental. They are both very friendly, as well as honest and up front about their costs. read more
