The chanting on Wednesdays is held in a beautiful shrine room, and annually different monks from their actual monastery (in exile in India) visit. Sometime between December and January they make a mandala, and I know it is beautiful to see. They have a library (!) and a room where people get together to watch relevant documentaries about Tibet and that religion. And - most importantly - it's like magic when you get to sit and listen to them interpret the various texts; almost as if you're is listening to someone speak who is so brilliant about the topic that he doesn't have to think.

It was a peaceful opening ceremony followed by the beginning of a week long process. We did not get to return to see the completed mandala sadly but enjoyed what we did get to see. First of all, the school does not use Kentucky state standards in their curriculum. It is BJU so it has a general approach instead of a specific guideline. When my child went to 3rd grade, they were very far behind their peers from public school yet made all good grades on their worksheets or test. I actually my child tested to see where they were and they were FAR behind what is expected. You are not getting the education that they say you are. It is not "ahead" at all! My child was not ahead on any subjects and actually behind in math. It concerns me that they advertise that they are ahead of public schools in their education standards when that isnt true! When you pay for your child to go to a private school, you expect more in my opinion and that just isnt the case with blast. We chose to not send our child to Blast for 3rd because I didnt feel like our standards matched their standards. As well as, that the 3rd and 4th grade teachers have no degrees in education and only homeschool experience. I think the owner is mistaken. I know for a fact they dont have a bachelor's degree because we are in the same circles. Please review the family handbook and agreement pages carefully. Theres more to it than paying $$ and coming to school. I am honestly, astounded that the owners are still able to have this place open when they dont follow Kentucky standards. They say they are a homeschooling co op which gives them NO responsibility for teaching my child since in the handbook it says " its the parents responsibility to ensure your student is making progress ".
