Since we decided to send our children there, we have been at peace, and we have only had great experiences. We also like the offerings that start as early as kindergarten like Cub Scouts, track, Latchkey etc.

The service I attended included a children's program which was really sweet! I don't recall an organ; however, they did have a piano in the back. This is not a high church, meaning, no use of incense, no elaborate altar, robust choir, ringing bells punctuating high points of the service, or sterling silver chalice, etc., for the Sacraments. And that's a good thing, a "high church" is not for everyone; and a variety of church experiences is really refreshing! Although I was an out-of-town visitor, the parish and those in attendance were friendly. I'm grateful for The Episcopal Church's Book of Common Prayer and consistent liturgy. What this means, is, you can visit an Episcopal Chruch anywhere [likely in the entire world] on any given day and know precisely what to expect. I had a really hard time in the beginning because they aren't currently letting parents in to drop off and pick up's (due to COVID). But Bethany was so sweet and would call to give me updates on how my little one was adjusting and that made me feel a lot more comfortable in leaving them. I definitely had a much harder time with the transition than either of my kids. But Bethany was very nice and understanding and patient with me, and that was very much appreciated. Skip ahead a few months and I see a huge difference in my 2-year-olds vocabulary! He has come such a long way since we made the transition to Primrose! As for my 5-year-old, I am blown away by their curriculum and the things she has learned! I still haven't had a chance to meet the kid's teachers, but I am hoping in the next few months to get to sit down with them.

It is not an exaggeration to say that we loved the Antioch School so much we relocated across the…read morecountry for it. We were a family living in Los Angeles, raising 2 young kids and had learned enough about the values of grit, self-directed learning, and raising empowered kids that we knew the right school environment was of the utmost importance to us. The problem was, the only kinds of schools in Los Angeles that offer that kind of education cost LITERALLY 20-30 thousand dollars a year. For PRESCHOOL. That is insane, and it was impossible for us to consider. But when we discovered the Antioch School, their incredible teachers, the grounds, the philosophy, the history, etc. AND saw that it was not only much less expensive, but offers financial aid to nearly 50% of it's students, it sealed the deal for us. We moved here and have had our oldest in the school for 2 years and his transformation has been incredible. Getting to watch his social skills and capacity for play and learning, trying new things, etc. It's the greatest gift we could give him (and ourselves as parents.) If you're a parent who believes that the modern public system of over-testing and lack of exploration for kids is NOT the solution to raising well-adjusted, smart, capable kids or if you believe that playing outdoors is more important than spending 8 hours a day at a desk, this is the school for you. And you won't find a better one for hundreds of miles around.

I would not say they're a welcoming congregation. To that point, they never have enough chairs set up. While I do understand that they have to set up and take down all the chairs every Sunday until their new location is finished, it seems ridiculous to not just set up a row or two more to assure that everyone has a seat when they arrive. My last issue is-and this is a matter of personal preference-that the music goes on way too long. My prior church capped the music part of the service 15-18 minutes. Twenty to twenty five minutes is too long for my taste. I'd prefer that the message be a little longer. But again, that's me and others may feel differently. I will check out COFL next weekend with an open heart and an open mind. Hopefully I have a better experience.
