Great church to worship at. We also had our wedding there years ago. The church has a real pipe organ and is over 100 years old.

This review (and rating) is mainly for the church property and buildings, a picturesque and beautiful setting. Every time we drive on Hwy 9, passing by the church, I get mesmerized by this place. So we finally stopped by past Sunday afternoon to take a closer look. The grounds are green, peaceful, and quaint. There are fruit trees and lush green lawns surrounding this property, together with magnificent redwoods. Saints Peter and Paul's Antiochian Orthodox Church in Ben Lomond had experienced some dark times in the past, and is presently headed by a new pastor, reverend Father Nathan Thompson, since August of 2015. The roots of the Ben Lomond church date back to the late 1970's when several local evangeliccal parishes joined together, and later bought the church building at 9980 Highway 9. They later joined the Antiochian Orthodox Church, a branch of the Eastern Orthodox Church, based in Damascus, Syria. The parish had renovated the buildings and erected the gold dome that has become the defining feature of the church. Some eighteen years ago, in the summer of 1998, there were controversial and uneasy times in the church's history, related to church property ownership, that divided the parish and ultimately led to a church split. It started as differences over the liturgical style, when members of the local clergy disagreed with the wishes of the archbishop, known as Metropolitan Philip, who ordered them to change the traditional and more conservative style they had been practicing for decades before. The separation that followed has caused the founding group to give up their property, which they never anticipated. The parish that funded this property has lost in court. From what I've seen over the past couple of decades this property has deteriorated some, needing a better upkeep. Hopefully the differences that fueled the split were put to rest and left behind. Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church is part of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America and is part of the ancient Patriarchate of Antioch. Saints Peter and Paul is currently overseen by Metropolitan Joseph, Metropolitan of all North America.
