I can't comment on the hospital, but I've visited here a few times to walk the labyrinth beside the…read moreMaggie's Centre hospice, which incidentally is US architect Frank Gehry's only building in the UK. The labyrinth is a huge Medieval-pattern design by American artist Arabella Lennox-Bloyd in 2009, constructed from granite setts and cobbles in grass. It's huge. Labyrinths have become very popular in hospices and hospitals these days, but I have to say that I don't like walking this one very much, primarily because of the use of cobbles in the centre of the paths, which makes it very uncomfortable to walk, especially given the size of the pattern. I often find myself walking on the edges of the path on the way back out as my feet are sore from walking on the uneven cobbles. However, it is a nice complement to the wonderful architecture of the Maggie's Centre and is quite peaceful to walk on a sunny day. I also like the Anthony Gormley 'iron man' sculpture that overlooks your walk from the bank.

My daughter went in for asthma attack to get a breathing treatment. The Dr didn't know what to do with her asthma as they don't have asthma treatment. They did check her for all of the airborne viruses which is good. He did give her new inhaler since her inhaler isn't helping her. They checked her breathing and she failed it twice so it's kinda of scary how they let her go with her lungs aren't working that good cuz of the asthma. he gave her steroid pills for four days. They don't let anyone go back with the patient except if you are bleeding I guess. As my daughter told me there was a guy bleeding from his knees , left arm and his head. She said they only covered his legs with a sheet but his head was still bleeding all over his face. But his family were in the back with him. The staff are super nice honestly so I have no issues with them. It's the free medical system that isn't good! Overall yes go there if you need to see a dr night or weekend. No don't go there if it's during the days of the weekdays. Like there is a lot of private Dr's that you can see if you want to get checked for normal things.

I hadn't slept for 3 nights because of the pain, my testicle was swollen and raised. This doctor made it very clear that I was an inconvenience to his day, he man handed my testicle whilst I squirmed around the bed in pain, he told me there was nothing wrong with me and sent me out the door with antibiotics (which made no difference to my symptoms). I made an emergency appointment with my gp the following morning to be told that my testicle had swelt to a size larger than it was the previous week. My gp was so concerned she made an emergency appointment to get an ultrasound done on my testicles. I'm now 3 months down the line and still struggling with daily life. I made a complaint to nhs forth valley regarding this and the doctor in question has lied through his teeth in his response. We're meant to be able to feel safe and trust these people and after this I have no faith in the system in place. Its embarrassing enough to have to get your penis and testicles out for complete strangers but when your made to feel the way this doctor made me feel, when I should be able to trust him is absolutely shocking.

My boyfriend had sudden back pain which was severe. He could hardly walk or talk from the pain…read more Owing to the severity, we called a taxi to the Larbert Accident and Emergency. As we waited, there was a general atmosphere of being dissatisfied by the long wait time and lack of communication from staff whilst patients waited. My boyfriend had gone to the toilet when his name was called. I explained, but the staff member insisted on calling another patient's name immediately after. Annoyingly, it was a matter of seconds till my boyfriend returned. It wasn't long till my boyfriend's name was called again. We felt lucky because we had waited a relatively short time. However, he was in for minutes; the doctor had refused to look at him because it was back pain and they do not consider this an emergency. Surely, this is not a case of black and white, and there are cases when back pain is, one: severe, and two: a symptom of something more serious underlying. We'd paid £18 in taxi fares, and were sent away to the Stirling Minor Injury Unit for an appointment later that evening. We walked a mile to Larbert train station as we couldn't afford another taxi regardless of how much pain my boyfriend was in. To add to the confusion there's a sign in the Minor Injury Unit which states that they do NOT treat back pain. The doctor there assessed my boyfriend's ears, stomach and back after apologising; she assumed that they would have already done this all quickly at Larbert. This wasn't the case. - My boyfriend was only told there was nothing he could do for them. I think there definitely needs to be clearer guidelines as to which unit is appropriate for your circumstances. At the moment, the information currently available has the risk of getting you in a right pickle. And I can't think of much worse than being in a pickle when you're feeling poorly.

I think over the years we have visited almost every ward in this place…read more The hospital gets a bad reputation locally, but at the same time when there was talk that it was to shut, the local community rallied round to save it, so it can't be all bad. Most of our recent visits have been to Accident and Emergency (A&E) and I have to say it's a lot better than I remember it years ago. Sometime it's not been the cleanest and sometimes the staff don't do things in the order you'd expect, but after a 12 hour shift I think I'd be the same. The staff in the Intensive care (ICU) have a very difficult job and are really sympathetic to the families, giving them loads of time and space at a time that is truly difficult and harrowing. No matter where you are in the hospital there are loads of hand sanitiser to try and minimise the risk of infection and reminders everywhere so you don't forget that it's important to avoid patients catching unwanted infections. If you've dealing with issues over multiple wards, you'll find that the doctors tend to specialise and don't appear to be able to deal with issues out with their own speciality/department, which can be very frustrating as it should be simple to get some cross departmental cooperation and patient care. The car parking is difficult during the traditional visiting hours, often spilling out onto the neighbouring streets. Some wards have, in recent years, tried to move away from these traditional hours, so you may be in luck and be able to attend loved ones at hours that are more suitable for you, your family, the person your visiting and all with easier parking. There are lifts within the central corridor of the hospital at both the front and the back of the hospital, which will take you to the wards you're visiting, with loads of signs to help you get where you need to go without too much need to navigate the maze of corridors. Occasionally there are periods that the hospital is having ongoing maintenance, but these are usually highlighted and with new additions, such as the Maggie's Centre and the New Beatson, the Hospital is providing local services that the community need on their doorstep. There is a RVS (WRVS) tea room / snack area on the ground floor as well as a small WH Smiths which are open for limited hours during the day. If you are spending time there there is also a canteen on the basement of the building, but as It's some time since I've visited there I'll leave that to a later review or maybe someone else can review it. For those with disabilities there are disabled parking in the car park at the front door, but these fill fast so I'd advise to try to arrive early and grab something at the tea room or the shop before your visit. For those using public transport, there appears to be fairly regular bus services running and there is a bus stop across from the front of the hospital. The local train station (Coatdyke) is a short(wish) walk from the back of the hospital. Overall, the place could be better, but it is improving all the time and with staff working long hours and with NHS budgets the way they are, I'm glad it's still here as it's a vital life line for anyone who needs it.

Staff were all very pleasant and were always loads of nurses milling around if you needed anything. Only major issue was it took him around 7 hours to get released after they advised him that he could go home as needed to wait for a prescription coming from Pharmacy. It is depressing having to sit around in hospital for 7 hours when you know that you are going home and should try and sort this out as obviously too long a delay
