I have spent my fair share of time in nursing homes, since three grandparents and an uncle were in…read morea facility for extended periods of time. I will admit that I do not like nursing homes, because they are sad places to be and I have always felt that the residents do not get the care that they need and deserve. Also, I recently read a study regarding nursing students, who are polled at the beginning of their studies, half way through, and then again upon completing their courses. The study shows that the elderly is the least popular group to work with, and any desire continues to decline as nursing students go through their courses. That being said, it can be assumed that nursing homes would be one of the least favorable places for nurses and aides to work, since the majority of the population are elderly patients. This is not the case with my uncle, who is 50 years old. He has a rare disease and is now also slowly recovering from recent heart surgery and a bad bout with pneumonia, which had him in the hospital for several weeks. Because of the illness, he is in need of physical and occupational therapy to regain some of his gross motor skills. There are not many nursing homes that will take patients under the age of 62, because they are not on Medicare, unless they are a veteran. This leaves very few choices, and Beacon Ridge was one of the few. I have to admit, I was of course skeptical of the nursing home because of my previous experiences. However, I was completely wrong. This facility is clean and well lit. The cafeteria is nice, and residents are encouraged to eat in there, but are permitted to eat in their rooms. The residents are given a few choices of what they want to eat, and the aides come over like "waitresses", taking the residents' orders and then bringing them what they ordered. (Example: meatloaf, turkey sandwich, or both!) It is nice that they are given choices and food is not simply put down in front of them. After lunch, we took a stroll around the entire facility. I discovered two therapy cats and a small 'aviary', where residents can sit and watch the birds. I also realized that there are two wings to the one-store building and that the main activities and cafeteria and centrally located. I saw a library, full of books, a television, and several tables and chairs. There was also another room full of board games, a television, a staff desk, tables and chairs. This is also the designated 'cat room', since I saw their food and water in here. Although, I was told that the cats do roam around the building. There are several daily activities - bingo, church, cookie decorating, etc. The rooms are average, nothing exciting, but my uncle's had a nice view and a bird feeder outside the window. Also, and most importantly, staff were readily available. Most said hello and seem to be attentive to the patients' needs. I am very cognizant of this, since I have been visiting relatives in nursing homes since I was seven. I was happy to see such a nice looking place and also my uncle seemed to be content, which is the most important of all. This is a small facility and it appears that the residents are able to get more one-on-one attention. I did not see anyone being neglected and left feeling good about Beacon Ridge.

And my daughter who was trying to do everything the right way was told to stop using so much product in cleaning residents and applying needed lotions. Do not place your loved ones here and if you have to due to money issues. Be active, visit often and if possible place audio in their rooms!!!!! She actually heard an employee state in front of a resident "I can't wait for her to die". How sad!!!! It is ABUSE!!

This place is modern looking, fresh smelling and very warm and inviting. I really enjoyed visiting my friend who has been living here for several months now and knowing that he seems to be pleased with the care and comfort he is receiving. They have a very large, fabulous covered deck connected to the building and is situated off from the dining hall. Residents get to enjoy a picturesque view of the countryside as they dine. My friend made sure I stepped out onto the deck to look out at the donkey who lives in a large enclosed area. The donkey appeared to be happily dining on the vegetation beneath one of the many trees it has the pleasure to rest under. This donkey has been able to time its visits to be back near the fence and deck just as some of the residents finish up their meals. They might decide to save a little something and will often toss it to him to feast upon. From my observations, the residents seemed to be in good spirits and were enjoying each others company. One woman told me she has been living there for 10 years. I am glad I had the opportunity to visit my friend and to discover a possible new place to recommend to those who find themselves in need of specialized care.

The therapist were fun, kind and helpful. But now we come to the dietery department. The food served was actually disgusting. Do you not have a qualified person to head this department Who knows how to prepare food? Food was barely cooked and cold. Coffee was always cold. One morning all I wanted was yogurt and a banana and coffee. True fact banana was frozen. So was my roommates. I am not a picky eater, but the food served was beyond edible. I became nauseated from not eating. Came home like that. It truly is sad that the food is so bad when everyone there is so great.

Like wow fresh construction or something. We accidentally went in the front building but the person working up front there quickly and kindly redirected us to the back building of the location. We went in and the person working the front desk was very nice. At first glance it looks really nice and luxurious. The dining area is so well done and our little one had to go potty before we went up and the bathrooms were clean, modern, and very nice as well. All staff we passed said hello and was very friendly. From what I was told and what I saw while there our family member is being well taken care of here. I would from what I've seen recommend them. Now they do have some violations received in the past and fines paid which you can find linked from their Yelp listing and follow that to medicare site that shows everything fines and violations. So that is information that I think is worth having to be able to really see everything and know what has been found. Still from all that I have seen I would recommend them for your loved one or yourself!

These wounds are serious and should have been preventable with appropriate care. We have also observed multiple care concerns that appear related to insufficient staffing within the facility: * She has been left sitting in soiled briefs for extended periods * She does not appear to be repositioned regularly * When family requests assistance, nurses state that only aides can provide that care, yet aides are not available or responding * Staff frequently appear overwhelmed and unable to meet residents' basic needs promptly I have attempted to address these issues internally by contacting Cat, the Assistant Director of Nursing, through both phone and email. No response has been provided.

The facility seemed clean, although there was a faint smell of urine in the hallways. She told me they were cleaning and the receptacles were in the hallway at the time. The room she showed me was remodeled. I sent over a list of required care items since my husband has Parkinson's disease and I wanted the nursing staff to have a heads up. I had asked if depends were supplied and she said yes. Upon arrival, no one greeted us or came out to help. He is hard for me to manage, but I got him in his wheelchair and took him up to his room myself. I then had to go back down and unload the car, using a cart that was in the lobby. His room was outdated and shabby. The dresser drawer was broken off the track. The shelving in the closet and bathroom were sticky. The floor was dirty and the room stunk. I went down to talk to the admin to relay this info. I had a flight booked for a family occasion and had to leave. The first time he needed to be changed, he said the nurse was not happy because he did not have his own depends. I had his daughter bring some, plus another pillow and better blanket, as well as some room spray. He was admitted on a Tuesday and by Sunday night had vomited several times, was running a fever, and couldn't breathe. He had no clean clothes left (I brought 11 changes of cloths, but he is totally incontinent. I was told laundry service was supplied, but that never happened until I complained) Thankfully, his daughter was there and she called me. I told them to call an ambulance ASAP. He is in the hospital with aspirational pneumonia. This place is totally negligent, and I feel that my husband was totally ignored. Upon talking to the floor nurse, she claimed she was not given the list of care needs. The admin acknowledged receipt of the list. I'm beating myself up over this decision but these people are deceptive. I would give 0 stars.
