I found Renewed Life Church in 2016 after a long time without a home church. The church I had…read moreattended before having children was wonderful, but the pastor retired, moved away, and the church closed. Then I had kids and found myself in a unique situation: my daughter is Deaf and needed an ASL interpreter. So just any church wouldn't do. When I learned that RLC had a certified educational interpreter, I RAN to it. I still remember my first conversation with Marcy, and she happened to be the pastor's wife and worship leader! She was so kind and so willing to make sure my daughter had access to church. 10 years later, she still interprets whenever my daughter attends with me and has even gone with her to youth classes and retreats so she could fully participate. That kind of love and inclusion meant more to me as a mother than I can ever put into words. I also still remember the first sermon from Pastor Jim. He became emotional as he talked about everything the Lord had brought him through in his life, but what stuck with me the most was that everything he said was grounded in biblical truth. He doesn't stray from the Word or build sermons around his own opinions. When he speaks from his own perspective, it's with the humility of recognizing the flawed human condition. I knew immediately that this was the place for me. Since becoming part of RLC, I've grown in ways I didn't expect. I've developed real relationships with fellow believers. Before I felt like a lone island, where now I'm surrounded by a sea of fellowship. More importantly, my relationship with the Lord has grown deeper. My faith has grown, my understanding of His Word has grown, and so has my desire to serve. There truly is a place here for anyone and everyone to worship, serve, fellowship, learn, and grow. Renewed Life connects us lone islands with a sea of believers united by a truth the church believes and I totally love: God loves us just as we are, and too much to let us stay that way. If you're looking for a church where you can grow in your faith, find genuine fellowship, serve others, and become more deeply rooted in God's Word, Renewed Life Church is a beautiful place to call home.

Him and His lovely Wife are something real special. The congregation is so friendly as the first time I entered the Church, I was greeted by pastor Jim with a hug and then others came over to do the same. This Church teaches right from the bible and You can't beat that.

I figured hey I find our dentist, vet, food places here why not weed through the churches this way too. If you are anything like me, church "shopping" isn't fun BUT so important to find the right fit for you and your family. For me personally I was looking for strong children's, kid's, teen programs, mom programs and mens programs. Sometimes a church will have one or maybe two of the above but usually not all...unless they are a mega church and that in itself is a problem for me personally. After looking at several other churches in the Oakley and Brentwood area I went back online and literally pulled up every church website in the area and started looking again. At that point I stumbled on Brentwood Neighborhood Church's website http://www.brentwoodnc.org . It is located next to edna middle school in the older downtown area. It offered alot. I was pretty excited. After attending our first service my kiddos, hubby and I said "hey I think this is "the one". :) PRO's: Everyone we met was SO welcoming and friendly. They have first time visitor parking right in front. Usually a greeter right there who will help direct you to where you go especially if you have kids to drop off this is so valuble. AWESOME children's ministry. We have 3 kiddos, one in nursery, one in the 3-4 room and one in the k-5 room. After each Sunday school the kids leave with weekly lessons that are age appropriate that you can do with them during the week to keep the "theme" of that weeks bible study going if you wish. The staff to child ratio is really good too. For nursery they give you a pager and will buzz you if they need you. Pastors Destined and Dave are wonderful and easy to talk too. They each preach wonderfully. The offer 3 service times. ALL WITH CHILDCARE. Let me repeat that. ALL TIMES WITH CHILDCARE. Service times are: 9am, 11am, and 5:05pm. That in itself is great since if you have someone into watching sports (cough cough like my hubby) or someone who plays sports you can pick the service that works best for that day for you. Women's ministry is strong. They offer a group that meets on Tuesday mornings called Simply Moms. Your kiddos get to play with kiddos their age while under care of the BNC staff you you get to get breakfast with other moms as well as do a craft or hear a speaker. It is pretty awesome. Very strong teen/preteen ministry. One thing that struck me is how involved the kids in this age group are. This is a good indicator of a healthy church. Recovery 12 step Christ based group that meets on Thursdays. I haven't attended it but I am very glad that this is offered. Coffee. Yes this is a pro! Free coffee is always a good thing. :) Wonderful playground in the far back of the church. If you have wild child's like mine this is a great way to burn energy as well as know they are safe since it is the back of the church. Check it out. :)

That service was beautiful and genuinely moving, and it made me feel hopeful that I had found a place I could continue coming back to. Over the following weeks, I've had a very positive experience with the youth pastor, Cyrus. He has been thoughtful, compassionate, and engaging, funny and he reflects the kind of leadership and tone I was hoping to find in a church community. Unfortunately, my experience with the lead pastor, Phil, has been very different. His preaching style comes across as condescending and more academic than pastoral. Services often feel like a lecture focused on technical definitions and word analysis rather than spiritual guidance, reflection, or connection. I came to church to deepen my faith and sense of community, not to sit through what feels like an English or college Bible class. In addition, sermons frequently drift into political territory, with firm lines drawn on complex and deeply personal issues. That approach feels out of touch with the role I would expect a pastor to play and ultimately made it difficult for me to continue attending. Because of this, I've decided to continue my search for a church home elsewhere. That said, I would absolutely consider attending again if Cyrus were preaching, as his approach aligns much more closely with what I'm looking for in a church.
