Tucked up in the hills above Whittier, it is removed from the noise and pace of the city below. There are trees, open sky, and a sense of calm that is hard to find elsewhere. In the mornings, you hear birdsong instead of traffic. That atmosphere carries into the classrooms. The exterior can feel a bit understated or even slightly worn. But that first impression doesn't reflect what's happening inside. The infant room, in particular, is remarkably peaceful. It has a quiet, steady rhythm that feels very intentional and reassuring for both children and parents. As children grow, the toddler and preschool rooms are warm and thoughtfully decorated, with clear care put into making them feel inviting and engaging. There is a strong emphasis on creative play and hands-on activities. Crafts, imaginative play, and exploration seem to be in the daily routine in a way that feels natural rather than forced. Another standout is the teacher-to-child ratio and the continuity of teachers. It allows for a level of attention and familiarity that is hard to find, and it shows in how well the staff know and interact with each child over the years. We moved from Pasadena and were genuinely surprised by the affordability, especially given the quality of care and environment. I decided to wait until I pulled my kids out to be as blunt and honest as I can without pointing out any one individual and also because I didn't want any retaliation from the one particular teacher! The school itself is nice and clean but that's about it! The parking situation is a nightmare! To pick up and drop off your kids is horrible! The streets become a tiny gridlock! The residents around the surrounding area cannot come or go for about an hour in the AM then again in the PM! The office and teaching staff is really nice... all except one! It might be that they all know each other on a personal level that the professional side of their job is not performed how it should be! I had no choice I had to enroll my kids in this school but as soon as I could I transfered them out! If you are new to the area... Do your research on the teachers! Ask questions! Ask Questions!! ASK QUESTIONS!!! Feel them out! If you get blank soulless stares go with your gut feeling! Believe your child if they come home and tell you the teacher doesn't want to help or ignores the questions asked! It was a horrible school year! When it should have been a memorable year! On a side note: There are no after school programs offered. There is NO 6th Grade Promotion Ceremony! The Halloween parade consists of walking around the parking lot once! When you do an apples to apples comparison by grade to leading schools, our kids perform far above grade level. The school has recently incorporated robotics and a campus wide STEAM program. The Principal is always working to update the technology available to the kids; there are laptops or iPads available to most every student. The performing arts are AMAZING, incorporating the culture of the predominately Latino-Professional school with a music mariachi program, Folklorico dancing program, choir, spring musicals, and fall plays.

All of the kids seemed like they were smiling ear to ear, there was so much joy just oozing out of this place! It was very clean, the kids were not just playing but learning as each class had a curriculum and the classes were small so each child received more attention. The prices were far more reasonable than any other preschool and they offered part time and full time options. We had found it! This was the type of place we had been looking for. My daughter graduated in 2020 then I sent my younger two kids as well and one graduated in 2023 and one in 2024, and we couldn't have made a better decision. The sanctuary is what drew us to this location. The stain glass windows made for beautiful wedding photos. The wedding coordinator and all the other folks were so helpful and def patient. My friend/boss has been telling me about Aqua aerobics, lap swimming that she has been doing with a group. With that, she asked me to join her, joining means signing up for the 45-minute to an 1 hour drive to get here. I walked inside, and I was quickly greeted by YMCA staff. I asked for a tour. Leslie was so polite and answered every single question I had. As we began to do a walk thru of the YMCA. I quickly saw a gym set up a workout area. Machines galore with a lot of privacy and unisex. There are locker rooms that have been remodeled. Everything inside the locker room has every amenities you need to make your visit successful. The ladies all chit chat everyone is welcoming. Modesty goes out the window when coming to the Y. Plenty showers available, benches and chairs in the locker room. From the ladies' locker room is an exit door that leads to the pool. There are some major lap swimmers here. Most of them don't care too much about sharing a lane. There is the shared swimming area, which works out great. What you need to know Areas may close for cleaning multiple times throughout the day. You can book up to 5 visits. Each visit has a minimum and maximum length of time. You can check in up to 30 minutes before your scheduled time. A member forfeits their spot if they are not checked in within the first 25 minutes of their time slot Reservations Required AM Lap Pool AM Main Open Ex PM Family Swim/Open Ex PM Lap Swim Saturday Lap Pool-Shared First Come, First Served Adventure Center Child Watch The YMCA sign up was easy , I downloaded the app, and we used the app to schedule myself a lane for lap swimming.
