The gorgeous grounds are maintained by Rutgers University, the chapel itself part of a long history. Besides weddings, events like baptisms and concerts can be held in its space. This might have changed, but I recall air conditioning wasn't strong - or might not even have been available. This place is a chapel, not a cathedral, so the parking lot is appropriately-sized (read: not huge). If you're organizing for a special occasion and expect a small crowd, consider the Kirkpatrick - and do visit the venue yourself!

As a Rutgers alumni, it goes without saying that this chapel holds a special place in my heart. I've now had the honor to see two sets of friends get married in this majestic building. The room is filled with intricacies and detail. The windows are stained glass and the lighting structures look like medieval crowns. There are paintings of gentleman hanging on the scarlet painted walls. I'm not sure who the people are in the pictures, but they look important. This is a great place for Rutgers alumnae getting married in central jersey to hold the ceremony. I hear that you need to book way in advance. Not surprisingly, a gem like this books up quickly.

The church has a strong congregation which is impressive given how small the actual church is. As small as it is it remains as one of the most beautiful church's you will find. Parking is ample as there is a private parking lot and street parking available. The Church does require masks and many of the aisles are closed off to promote social distancing. Everyone involved did a wonderful job with the wedding.

Due to its gargantuan size and old world architecture, Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH) is more on the lines of basilica status, which in church terms is as grand as it gets. I have only been here a couple of times, but each experience was a bit like stepping back in time. While many churches in the area tend to slant more modern, OLPH shines with its dated look. The main church is cathedral worthy and the lower church functions quite well as opposed to other basement layouts. Yet there are subtle things, such as the shiny floors and lighting. It's not a bright church in the least, but the interior has the ambiance of a concert hall with a bit of antiquity. It sounds a little crazy, but one just has to see this place at both day and night and not see the same thing. In terms of things I think that could be better, I've seen them go overtime often and I wish they'd update the rows and pews. Knees are sore just typing this. In terms of the mass schedule, it's as versatile as I've seen anywhere. There are Sunday masses in English, Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin), and Vietnamese. They split time between the main church and lower level, which means folks don't have to miss out on anything.

I've done some…read morechurch-shopping since I've relocated to Staten Island, and I haven't found any house of worship which even vaguely resembles First Bible. This is-per the name-a Bible-believing, Reformed, sola scriptura, sola fide, non-denominational church where Jesus and his word comes first. Even though this is not what I would describe as a "seeker sensitive" church, people who aren't believers will be welcomed and treated with dignity and warmth. Those who are believers will be welcomed as brethren. But no one will be coddled. Pastor Veach, Pastor Dean, and all of the elders at First Bible are performing a much-needed ministry. They are an integral part of the Staten Island community-through Operation Jerusalem and ministries to local nursing homes-and the wider global community, from Haiti, to Poland, to France and the Philippines and beyond. I've been at services where newborn believers from China have given their testimony. First Bible really is a light unto the world. I'd encourage anyone who lives in Staten Island, or New York City, to see the good works they are doing for yourself.

I love attending and being with other believers; this is written during quarantine and I seriously am excited for the ban to be lifted first and foremost to return to church. Our family moved to NJ but when my husband passed I took him back to Tottenville.....OLHC was our roots. I was so sad to see the school close its doors.Our youth need a Christian education. a small beautiful church in the tottenville section of staten island. i was in the area visiting…read moredear friends on easter sunday and needed to take a walk after eating too much pasta and cannolis. it's a lovely roman catholic house of worship that serves its people wonderfully , especially the spanish speaking catholics . a small parking lot and the main rectory is left of the main church, before i walked in i was really moved by and outdoor statue of jesus christ with a plaque blessing the victims of 9 11. the church inside is simple with stain glass windows and more statues of religious figures . some wooden rows of seating . even though service for the day was finished i still had a good feeling being inside the house of god.

Every part of the church is ornately painted or decorated and truly looks like a temple for God. The Priest was kind and had a great sense of humor.
