If I could give a 0 I would. The worst run shop I've ever been to. I've spent thousands every year…read moreand had the odd poor customer service but I just ignored it as this is my most local shop. I've had them lie to me when I've ask for something and they give you something else many times. Then instead of just doing a simple swap they turn this into a massive problem calling you names under their breaths, thinking you can't hear. They normally seem very helpful and seem to want to help but god help anyone who has to return something or just swap etc.. My last visit turned into all 3 of them swearing at me and shouting, being very rude and aggressive. All because I asked for pure brilliant white paint and they gave me just white. Nothing bad but they went mad calling me all sorts of things. I was extremely shocked over something so small a problem. I was happy to pay the extra and did. One of them I've had many problems with as he's either got things wrong or just doesn't listen to what u ask for. But still I never moan I just ask for them to get a different paint. I've never had a shop keeper come at me before looking like he was going to punch me (calling me a c#@t. Especially over something so stupid. I just couldn't understand why someone would be so angry for just swapping paints. They've mix wrong paints a few times and my customers have gone in there and came out very angry with them to. Would never go here again and I would suggest going to another store if possible. If you have any issues, they can't handle problems very well. Many times I've walked into their shop with them swearing at each other but I just get on with what I need whilst ignoring them.

I was very surprised the first time that I shopped there because I assumed that it would be a bit more expensive than the likes of B&Q. This was not the case; for many items they are cheaper. What keeps me loyal to this shop is the friendliness and helpfulness of the owners. They give good advice and do not automatically steer customers to the most expensive options. This shop is off the beaten path but well worth a visit, especially during spring and autumn when they stock a lot of plants. It was a year before I ever entered this store after relocating to East Oxford; now I wish I hadn't waited that long - this place is a gem.

I also recently found out that their website is also particularly useful with loads of 'How to do' articles detailing step by step how do tackle many DIY jobs around the home. This particular store is quite large and gets very busy over the weekend. The only real gripe I have though are the long queues that's seem to be ever present every weekend at the checkouts. No other DIY store I go into seems to have the same problem, so why does B&Q?

What I also really like is the fact that they employ people who are past their retirement age. I went to choose some paint from here to paint an outside wall and one of their elderly helpers was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the type of paint I would need and the products I would need to complete the job.

The store has late night opening hours, which is very handy for the emergency repairs and can be a quieter time to visit.

I must have spent a fortune in here over the years on different places I have lived in and have always found great value on everything. Its located on the A4 in the Slough Retail Park which also houses Comet and others and the retail park was recently bought up by the Crown Estates which is the trading arm of the Royal family. I thought they were claiming poverty?! One example of great customer service was when I needed another door that B & Q had been selling. They no longer stocked them but one of the staff rang many different stores until he located one and transferred it over. I had already costed out getting one made and it would have been £300 compared to the £45 at B & Q! This store (and probably B & Q in general) has gone way beyond DIY and sells all sorts of things, but unlike Homebase which has gone all frilly and sells everything you don't need (I couldn't even get a fuse box in Homebase recently) B & Q has retained its core product but has now gone way beyond that whilst still retaining key principles in DIY. The staff are very knowlegable as many are former Tradespersons and nothing is too much trouble. They have often ordered stuff in for me when they haven't had it. I'm sure millions of people on a budget have transformed their homes into little palaces thanks to B & Q. Well worth a visit.

Well frequented by tradesmen who know exactly what they're after, it can be a little intimidating, but the service for the uninitiated is friendly and helpful. Probably best not to ask if they've got fork 'andles.

A light and airy warehouse with nice wide aisles. A good selection of paints and decorating materials. The staff always seem helpful and polite. They have some outdoor items like fencing and paving. A range of different types of trolley to use depending on what you are buying. A good selection of power tools and safety equipment.

The only place I ever get wood from when I'm doing a DIY project is Wickes because they tend to be…read morethe cheapest of all of the major DIY outlets. The only issue is that they don't do the free wood cutting service like Homebase or B&Q, which can be a pain. When Wickes first opened many years ago I remember that they were amazingly cheap. Then they started to increase their prices once they got a market share. Most of their items are own brand and I have to admit that whilst they are cheap for many things, there are still others like Wilkinsons or Screwfix who can still undercut them on pricing.
