We have experienced different teachers year, and each one has been more than exceptional. They have been absolutely lovely, caring, thoughtful, smart, and have the best interest of our kids, their classmates, and even their community in mind. They have been taught not only the basic academics, but also how to be a good human in this crazy world, and how to lean on community and their peers to grow and become educated. I have felt like the teachers have always kept the individual student in mind, and advocated it on their behalf for all of their needs. The school, the teachers, the staff, down to the janitors....Absolutely lovely. The community that is involved at Mckinley Elementry school is the absolute best. There is a constant fundraising happening by the parents and community to support Mckinley's vast programs. The jog-a-thon, Sono Fest, the Gala, etc. Programs like music, theater dance for, art, and Spanish, our kids have been getting a very well rounded experiences in elementary school.

Before CCPAA, our kids attended a private school that felt cold, cliquish, and unwelcoming. Finding CCPAA was like finding a second family. From day one, we were welcomed warmly, and it has made all the difference. My children have been at CCPAA for a year and a half now, and they've loved every single moment. The teachers are passionate and truly engaged with the students, and the administration is always on top of everything. They create an environment that is not only academically enriching but also incredibly nurturing. What really stands out to us is the vibrant creative offerings--dance, music, jazz band, art, drama, and more. For our family, creativity is just as important as academics, and CCPAA allows our children to explore both. They're thriving, not just as students, but as artists, thinkers, and young individuals with diverse passions. The school's inclusive, diverse environment and sense of community have given our family stability, warmth, and a place to belong in the midst of the frequent changes that come with military life. Unless you have money to throw and your child is extremely smart/you can afford amazing tutors, this school was absolute torture. 4 years of actual hell. The stress put on us, the constant pressure, assignments and no boys all led me to therapy. This school does not prepare you for real life. It prepares you to work and function like a robot. All of my peers got diagnosed with anxiety/depression while being here and I would also argue that most of them were medicated. Your teenage years are such an important part of development and this school does not allow for the proper teenage experience. They put on the biggest facade, attempting to make the school look pretty and fun when in reality I knew so many student suffering in silence as they tried to make their way through graduation. These 4 years were the worst of my life and it's unfortunate the wasted money spent at this prison. I am so glad to be out and thriving. This is a warning to parents and potentially future students. Within 20 minutes she had told me all the services she could offer to help us, not to worry my daughter will still be able to graduate and gave me all the tools that I can use so I can concentrate on my daughter . I did bring it up to SDUSD Officials throughout my daughter's 2 years at this school. Sadly, there was no response, nor improvements in the Infrastucture, administration, nor support resources. There are some old reviews on this site! Our son has been at San Diego High School for 3 years…read more(just going into senior year), and our experience with the school has been very positive. The teachers are excellent. The administration does a great job in difficult circumstances (funding has dropped every year). The range of options that are available is greater than any other school in San Diego unified (lots of electives). The partnership with the community college allows students to take college-level classes for free, in person, on the San Diego high school campus. Also, personally, I think the diversity of the student body is a positive. Our son now knows kids from many different countries and cultures, and with different life experiences.

As for the Livescan Office, come as early as possible for their walk-in hours. I have been turned away near the tail end of their walk ins (10am) bc they had enough walk ins to accompany before their appointment hours come. It's in a bungalow so it's kind of ironic having taken a class in a bungalow for K-12 and then going to a bungalow for non-teaching purposes at a school district. My experiences with this office have been good. The women I've met who work here are nice and quick. When I came here when the line was long, they churned people out. Visitor parking is limited and since the livescan office is packed in the mornings you might have to park on the streets but so you know, Birney elementary is next door so depending on the time you'll come across school traffic.

Our experience with Miller Elementary and Foster Elementary was extremely concerning and…read moredisappointing. While attending these schools, my child came home on multiple occasions with unexplained bruises or marks, and I was never given a clear explanation of how they happened. Because my child has autism and may not always be able to communicate what happens during the school day, this was especially alarming to me as a parent. At Miller Elementary, when my child was still in diapers, he came home several times with red bumps around his bottom. Around the same period, he suddenly began putting his finger inside his bottom, which was completely out of character for him. After I removed him from the school, this behavior stopped completely. I repeatedly asked the school what could have happened, but no one ever gave me an explanation. I was repeatedly told that they did not know and essentially felt that everyone was simply washing their hands of the situation. I also have serious concerns about the adults the district chooses to place in positions of direct care and supervision of children with special needs. I personally questioned why older male staff members were being placed in these positions, and I did not feel comfortable with it. This is my personal opinion and concern as a parent. When children are vulnerable and may have limited ability to communicate or report what happens to them, I believe the district should exercise an extremely high level of caution in screening, selecting, training, supervising, and monitoring every adult who has direct access to them. I also contacted the person responsible for IEP matters at the district because I needed help addressing my concerns, and I felt completely ignored. Despite repeatedly bringing these concerns forward, I did not feel that they were taken seriously or properly investigated. The most frustrating part of this experience was feeling that, whenever I asked questions about concerning incidents involving my child, no one seemed willing to take responsibility or provide answers. Parents should not have to fight this hard to have legitimate concerns about the safety and well-being of a child with disabilities taken seriously. I hope the district improves accountability, communication, staff screening, supervision, and oversight so that other families do not experience what we experienced.
