Kind of like many of the homes in the Quarter but walk inside and it's Oh My! Immaculate Conception looks just like the Old World Catholic churches in Europe. And as old as it looks and beautiful too it can also be very modern. For the first time in my life I saw a collection basket with an electronic credit card reader! Don't have cash, no problem! Forgot to bring your weekly envelope with a check inside, no problem! Just whip out that plastic, select your amount on the screen and tap! I about fell out of my pew when I saw that this past weekend. Amazing! An usher told me later that it has increased collections because people don't like to carry cash. What a novel idea!

Even though this has historically been a church that served the Irish immigrant population in typical New Orleans fashion they now host a St. Joseph's alter here for St. Joseph's Day following the tradition of New Orleans Sicilian immigrant population. These Irish and Sicilian traditions continue with combined St. Patrick's and St. Joseph's parades running in many parts of the city and surrounding suburbs of New Orleans as the two Saints holidays are very near each other on the calendar every year.

It's full of non-judgey people who want each other to be happy and healthy. I've made a lot of great friends here over the years and met the guy I consider to be my mentor. We loved the split of an early and late service as we travel a lot and sometime work Saturday nights. The preaching was pretty good, it is a diverse and welcoming church of about 50-60 people in the service. They have open communion and a children's ministry during the preaching section. The music is decent but not that polished some of the songs you can hear on Lifesongs but some were unfamiliar and more folksy hymny. I love the way the end service and think it is a solid option for someone who prefers solid bible based teaching in a comfortable relaxed open environment.
