For this summer I decided to go on a journey across the pond and stay at St. Ermin's which is quite close to everything in London. You can walk to St James Park, Buckingham Palace, pubs, stores, shops, and much more. The list is endless and I would say if you have never been to London before, this area would be a nice starter for you. The beds were comfortable and the room is a decent size not too small. Service here was exceptional and the breakfast buffet was on point. Overall I have not one bad word to say about this place. I loved our little adventures all around the area and we are happy!
We stayed here for Christmas 2025. We had a wonderful Christmas here while in London. We booked 2 rooms and both were ready for us at 11:30am. The hotel is centrally located so it's walking distance to almost everything and the tube is close as well. The hotel itself is warm and inviting with lovely charm! The staff is great - friendly and helpful. Their breakfast is awesome too. Served everyday until 10:30am. It was included in our stay, we don't normally have breakfast but it and the atmosphere were just too good to pass. They have a big fireplace in bar / dining area which was great to sit by every night. The service staff is great!! We had Christmas stockings on our door Christmas morning which was a big surprise. The rooms are clean and comfortable. We can't wait to come back in the late spring!
Such a beautiful and convenient location with rich history. The staff was great as was the evening wine hour. The breakfast was charming as well. I read complaints about the room size, seriously! You are in a historical building in central London. How big a room do you expect in a classical old hotel, LOL
Home away from home. Such a great hotel - true British class along with ideal location short walk from Westminster and Buck Palace. Wonderfully historic hotel which is part of the Marriot family - perfect for paying with points. Rooms are spacious for London, bathrooms are a little cramped but just knowing you need to schedule a bathroom with your spouse and all works well. Tea kettle right in the room. Plenty of USB and outlets. Perfect location.
The St Ermins is in the heart of central London and within easy walking distance of many of the popular attractions such as Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Parliament, and Big Ben, Soho, Piccadilly Circus, theaters, etc. There is an underground station around the corner, and several others within a short walk. The hotel is a more classic style and the layout is a bit disjointed, the elevators small, but far from frustrating it is more quaint. The rooms and public areas are updated with all the modern conveniences, and the staff is very accommodating. Special notes are Ivan, Ramos in the restaurant, Gaby at the front desk, Gary at the concierge, and the entire bell staff. While unnamed our room attendant did an excellent job of keeping our room clean. The breakfast buffet was average. The ala carte items were tasty. It was disappointing that although the hotel boasts of bees, the honey is not from their bees, but a pre package. Overall a great choice for those wanting to enjoy a trip to London and want to stay in the Centre of it all.
Love St. Ermin's. The staff are super amazing and the location is perfect if you want to near the cool stuff. If you're in town also go to the Portabello street market, it's people watching at its finest and you might just spend more thank your suitcase can handle.
We loved this hotel. The staff was very helpful, including Nahid Yasin a restaurant manager, the lobby and other interiors were wonderful, and the location cannot be beat (walking distance to Buckingham Palace). We also tried the afternoon tea and it was great. Yes, our room was small, but we expected that at an older hotel. We would not hesitate to go back.
So close to 5 stars but please allow me to explain... The hotel exterior is quite a beauty with its architecture and history. Front doormen and wait staff at Caxton Grill definitely do a wonderful job with helping their customers, so helpful and friendly. Thank you all! Interior, specific areas have been nicely renovated. Elevators can use some upgrades and renovations. Caxton Grill & Breakfast Buffet served good food. We enjoyed the breakfast, but if you don't like their scrambled eggs they serve in the buffet and order eggs another way, you can wait as long as 30 mins for your eggs to arrive. We loved the lox!! Caxton grill has a small menu but good food. Wait staff is friendly!! Location of hotel is great and close to Thames river and the attractions close to it, London Eye, river cruise. Our room- omg so small. We booked a 2 bed room, with queen beds, or at the minimum full beds. I shared a room with my cousin. We got 1 full sized bed that may have been 2 single beds pushed together and the smallest room I've ever been in. You had to walk sideways to get to the top of the bed on both sides. The bathroom was renovated and new but small as well. And our view was a dark, dreary and scary building, could've been from a book about Jack the Ripper. Front desk staff- not helpful at all. They push and push you to purchase some food credit at Caxton bar (their restaurant) and you only save I think 20 pounds. It's not worth it! Don't fall for it ! And when we complained about our room issue they countered with charging as an additional 100 pounds per night to get a bigger room, same bed situation where 2 grown women had to share one bed. Shaking my head. If I'm ever back in London, I will book my hotel elsewhere.
We enjoyed our time at this historic and beautiful hotel. Upon arrival the concierge and bell mans were quick to assist us with our luggage and escorted us promptly to our room. The front desk staff was accommodating and answered and of our questions. We stayed with our Marriott membership and attempted to redeem our suite upgrades however were notified it was not available due to limited availability. In terms of accommodations, we stayed in the Deluxe King room with a view that overlooked the main courtyard/drive of the hotel. The amenities in the room were good for European sizing standards. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of outlets throughout the room. When we had any requests or needs we called the front desk and generally would have what we wanted within minutes- quite literally. Apart of our Marriott status allowed us to have complimentary breakfast each day we were there with the buffet in the restaurant. There was a great variety of options including gluten free and dairy free options, as well. You can also order from the breakfast menu for an additional charge. I appreciated that the restaurant made speciality coffee drinks, as well. The wait staff at the restaurant were very friendly and helpful. Lastly, overall our stay was very good. I definitely would recommend talking with the concierge as they had great recommendations about restaurants in the area, transportation to and from, where to go/where not to go, and really attempt to get whatever need you have met. Overall, we truly enjoyed our time while staying here. The only true downside that I have is that the room walls are relatively thin so I could hear my neighbors under and beside me throughout the evening hours.
Service is great, breakfast is great, location is great. The hotel is very stately as well with plenty of seating in the lobby. Not so great was the musty smell on the third floor by the emergency stairs, the fact that my bathtub did not drain well, and that no Uber could find us and no taxi would pull into the hotel due to surrounding construction. It made getting places such a mess. Also I arrived to find my room very heavily perfumed like I've never seen before and had to spend the first night with windows as far S they would open to air it out.
Absolutely fantastic place to stay in London. The service is amazing and staff are very friendly and inviting. Great restaurant inside and the rooms are very clean and updated. Definitely recommend to anyone who plans a trip to London.
The building is beautiful. However, I feel that this place is stuck in the past. Our first room had a protruding wall which consequently only allowed for one nightstand and made it hard to get out of bed for a 78 year old. We both wear glasses. Where was he suppose to placed them if he didn't have his own nightstand? I had to wedge a bag against the wall, see pic. The outlets were located behind the nightstands and under the desk, which made them hard to access. Most hotels now have them placed in very accessible areas. Our second room had two nightstands. The protruding wall was gone. It had the same view as the first room. It was missing the second chair. The shower door let out water onto the floor. The small circular shelving was also missing from the bathroom. Now there was barely any storage area. The ledge above the sink was the shallowest I have ever seen. The breakfast buffet and Caxton Grill were serviceable. We didn't love them enough to keep eating there in exclusion to trying out new places. We enjoyed the area. There were a lot of walkable attractions to see. Our room just wasn't functional for us. read more
I don't even know where to start with St. Ermin's. The place is absolutely beautiful, staff waits on you at every turn, and our room was impecable. We stayed one night and wish our stay had been longer. Our upgraded room was a dream. It had a small living room area separate from the bedroom. The bathroom was quite large by European standards (and for such a historic building). The decor throughout was just perfect. Our view outside the windows wasn't the best but that was okay because our room made up for it. We had breakfast at the hotel restaurant and WOW. Multiple buffet spreads separated by food types (eggs, protein, light fare like yogurts, breads, pastries). You name it, they had it or would make it for you in the kitchen. Staff was super attentive and came around just about every 10 minutes asking if we had anything. Overall, St. Ermin's is worth every penny and you can easily walk to the underground or shopping areas. read more

This genuinely felt like a bait and switch. We booked through Marriott based on the room photos, which showed a much larger space with multiple windows, plenty of room to walk around, and nightstands on both sides of the bed. The room we were actually given looked nothing like those photos. It was much smaller and felt more like a shoe closet. After we arrived, we found the floor plan on the St. Ermin's website, and it did match the room we were assigned. However, we hadn't booked through the St. Ermin's website, and that floor plan wasn't something we found on Marriott when making our reservation. The photos on Marriott created a very different expectation from the room we received. The bathroom had a pedestal sink with only a very narrow shelf above it, leaving almost no space for toiletries. The sink itself was very shallow, and every time I washed my face, water splashed over the edge and onto the toilet paper, which was mounted directly beneath it. The bed was uncomfortable, the blackout shades didn't block much light, and the room was surprisingly noisy. We could hear doors slamming throughout the morning and late into the evening. When we raised our concerns with the front desk, the response was, "Well, we do have a room that's smaller." That wasn't a helpful response or acknowledgment of the issue. If rooms vary this dramatically in size and layout, the photos used on Marriott should accurately represent what guests may receive, or the different room layouts should be clearly distinguished. There were definitely positives. The included breakfast was very good, the restaurant was excellent--the chicken was some of the best I've ever had--and most of the staff we encountered were kind and helpful. Unfortunately, the room itself was a major disappointment because it didn't resemble the room shown in the photos we booked from. read more

This is a lovely boutique hotel in the heart of London close to Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, St. James Park, Big Ben, and many great stops along the way. The underground station is just around the corner and easily accessible. The property is well-maintained and there is a great attention to detail throughout the property. The rooms are well appointed and the beds are very comfortable. The food here at the hotel is equally delicious. we enjoyed the breakfast options that included poached, eggs, baked beans, potatoes, mushrooms, tomatoes, and other things that you would expect with a full English breakfast. The service at this hotel is outstanding! We were well taken care of and anytime we needed something. It was very accessible. We will definitely stay here again. First opened as a hotel in 1899, the St. Ermine hotel is as much an important historical factor and physical work of art as it is a lodging facility. The property has no proper gift shop, but there are items for sale. Notably among them is a book titled House of Spies, which chronicles how British intelligence services used the hotel as a base of strategic planning. Among other luminaries, Winston Churchill was a regular patron enjoying champagne in the comfortably appointed Caxton Bar. Upon arriving at the courtyard entrance, one is struck by the beautiful plantings lining both sides of the drive and the hotel's stunning façade. Expect to be greeted both warmly and efficiently by a doorman clad in black formal attire and wearing a smart bowler. As befits his post, the doorman possesses a wealth of information about the hotel and the area in general. The similarly attired concierge staff (sans bowler) is situated to your left as you enter. A slight bit further on is the front desk, where legendary British efficiency is on full display, served with impeccably professional friendliness. A display near the ground floor elevator lobby showcases numerous wartime artifacts, including uniform, spy paraphernalia, a handbook for clandestine activities, etc. A cheery, complimentary wine service is presented Monday - Thursday afternoons. Guests have an opportunity to meet and converse over free flowing white and red wines, complemented with assorted hors d'oeuvres. A staircase leads to a mezzanine quite breathtaking for its beauty. Ceiling, pillars and walls are adorned with brilliant white, ornately cast plasterwork. An outdoor patio extends toward Caxton Road, creating a comfortable bower for enjoying an afternoon glass of wine or cocktail. As a former hotelier of many years, I could not help perusing the property's meeting space. Situated on the ground and 1st levels, the 14 event spaces and 9 breakout rooms, encompassing 8,460 total sq. ft. are conveniently accessible and usefully flexible. Unsurprisingly, event spaces reflect the same ornate elegance as the lobby and mezzanine in general. On the 3rd floor guests can view the hotel's bee terrace, which is home to 350k (or so) bees nesting in hotels of their own and providing honey to the kitchen. A rooftop garden similarly provides fresh fruit and vegetables. Guestroom floor hallways are charmingly labyrinthine and impeccably maintained. Guest rooms are comfortable, equipped with the usual amenities, including refrigerators stocked with complimentary water and candy bars. Of particular note are the bathroom's large, white, downy-soft and densely napped towels. In short, the St. Ermin's hotel affords guests and visitors a historically important, artistically graceful and welcoming experience. Would we return? In a heartbeat! read more

St Ermin's is a lovely hotel we like in London. The atmosphere and staff are warm and inviting. They have a marvelous breakfast selection for the buffet and the evening wine and appetizer social is relaxing after a day of sightseeing. Speaking of sightseeing, St E's is close to Westminster and Buckingham Palace. Also is next to St James Place tube station which will get you anywhere. If you have any questions just ask that wonderful staff I mentioned earlier. read more

Stunning hotel with a rich history, lovely wine happy hour, and friendly staff. Be aware, rooms are extremely tight and not well laid-out. While staff was friendly, housekeeping showed up 4 times in one day after telling them the first time that we did not need anything and we had the sign on the door handle as well asking to not be disturbed. Rooms were quite loud, causing some sleep troubles. read more
UPDATE - I was pleasantly surprised how St. Ermin renovated such a classic older building from the 1800's to the property it is today. The lobby and rooms are modernized --- but it doesn't lose the charm associated with buildings of that era. The property bar and restaurant were very good. I encourage visitors to eat at least one breakfast at the property. Specifically the restaurant wait staff is amazing and the breakfast buffet has anything that you could ever want. But the best thing that this hotel has going for it is the location. I have stayed in London many times, but nothing beats where St. Ermin is located. Within a 1-2 minute walk you are at the tube station. I did run into a double billing issue that drug on for several weeks. It wasn't until I worked with a manager that took the time to ask the right questions and discover a computer error. Luckily, I had kept all my paperwork. read more

Stories of England's Spies surround this property, even a book written about it. This is a boutique hotel. Quaint and lovely. Beautiful rooms though some feel a bit smaller than expected. The gem for me was location, location, location. 10 minute walk to Big Ben, Westminister Abbey, Parliment Square, River Thames, London Eye and the list goes on. My room was quite comfortable. I loved the shower as it was a rare time I could fit under it and water pressure on the 3rd floor was excellent. A well known restaurant is on property and the breakfast buffet is an excellent value. Many shops near by if you need one and a post office, shoe shine, and pubs. The "tube" subway is around the corner. read more

St. Ermin's is a wonderful hotel, we stayed during the end of our London trip. The hotel is beautiful, when you arrive you're greeted by the friendly and helpful doormen and you feel the luxurious experience from the start. Katia checked us in and she provided exceptional service! She sent us a bottle of champagne to celebrate our special occasion which was so thoughtful. Our room faced the courtyard and we had access to everything we needed. We ordered room service and enjoyed a tasty breakfast. We can't say enough about this hotel! Go for the experience and leave with amazing memories. read more

I picked this for my first solo international trip and wasn't disappointed. The hotel is historic and has many cool historical ties. I love that I had a cocktail in the same bar as Churchill. I love that they even had a bee sanctuary. Staff was attentive and available. It is close to the Tube, Buckingham Palace and Parliament. read more

Enjoyed my stay at St. Ermin's, and there was plenty to appreciate about the room, proximity to nearby pubs and attractions, etc. Breakfast options were great, the suite (photos attached) was spacious, and it was a beautiful hotel overall. The one disappointment I had was with the staff regarding a lost item. The individual staff members (we dealt with several) did not seem empowered to help my wife with her issue, and they did not follow through on attempts to resolve. I've experienced better customer service at other Marriott locations, so this didn't sit well with us. While other locations may have gone out of their way to mitigate, we did not feel there was any sense of urgency to help or much attention to detail. read more

I expected so much more. I booked this hotel months and months ago and was so excited for my stay at my fancy London hotel. My experience wasn't quite as I imagined it. The hotel and lobby are lovely and provide endless photo opportunities that mimic what's shown in online photos. My disappointment came with my room. At check in, I was told I couldn't be upgraded due to being sold out one night in the middle of my stay. No worries, I always hope for an upgrade, but have come to never expect one despite my Titanium status. So glad I stay so loyal. This hotel has two very small elevators that will take you up to your floor. They comfortably only fit four people, but more will squeeze inside. The directions in the hallway finally led me to my room, but I found a much easier path on my own opposite the directions. My room was so TINY. It was smaller than a room in NYC with no view to speak of at all. There wasn't even room to put anything away or to store my suitcase without it being in the way. The only thing smaller was the bathroom. You couldn't do anything in there. There was no place to put my makeup, lotion or anything. The only thing I liked was the shower, which was pretty great. The bed was the most uncomfortable Marriott bed I've ever slept on. It was as hard as a rock and the same goes for the pillows. I didn't sleep well at all. I actually hated knowing that each night I had to sleep feeling so uncomfortable. Another reason for not sleeping well, I'm sure, was the hallway noise. The doors slams when they are closed and you can hear this repeating all night long. This hotel is close to a few restaurants, but not a ton. You will need to use a cab/Uber or the underground to get to better restaurants a little farther away. I recommend exploring spots outside of this area. The gym is beyond awful. It has like five machines that offer you the option to watch two news stations or some silly movie network. It's also as small as could be, maybe the size of one hotel room, and with two people working out, it felt both awkward and crowded. Getting a cab is tricky here. Some days it was very easy, other days I waited 15 minutes. Be prepared. Overall, I'm disappointed I spent my time and money here. This is a costly hotel and I expected much more, especially from the rooms. read more
Gorgeous hotel located in the heart of London. Great place to walk to Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, the London Eye, And Buckingham Palace to name a few places. Plus, it's a Marriott hotel so I get points for staying! I recommend doing the afternoon tea here as well. Make reservations in advance especially if you're going on a weekend. I love that the hotel has their own bee hives along with rooftop garden. Customer service was excellent! I'm usually never disappointed with the Marriott family. read more
Great location. Walking distance to Buckingham palace. Tube one block away. Uber takes 2-3 minutes to pick up in the morning. Rooms are tight but clean. Recommend upgrading if you are Bonvoy member. I got a good deal for a larger room (bear in mind I came in low season). Service and overall staff is 5 stars. Reception, Concierge and restaurant staff very friendly, multi lingual and very helpful. Breakfast buffet is decent: fruit, ham, salmon, cheese, scrambled eggs, bread and honey (more on this later). Espresso. Recommend ordering poached eggs, they serve them at your desired term. Great for start of day. Hotel has good stories on Parlament members and even former spies. Ask the reception and they will tell you details and a useful booklet. Property has good personality and lots of little places to read, work, unwind. Second floor (or 1st floor in UK) has a very cozy tea room for afternoon tea. Reservations recommended. Third floor has a bee hive and they serve honey from them at bkfast. Only one piece to improve and get to 5 stars. Gym was very tight and not properly ventilated. Recommend looking at expanding it. Comparable properties in near by locations have a better space. Other people commented on lifts not working. I did not experience that at all. I'll come back and recommend! read more
