Today's Lenten homily was inspiring and interesting, motivating me to research the transfiguration painting by Fra Angelico. This high Mass delighted all the senses, from the ornate beauty of the sanctuary to the traditional hymns to the incense. The church is very large and incredibly appealing. There is plenty of parking along the street or in adjacent free lots. The priest is hip, even hosting a Tuesday night book club!

The building takes it's inspiration from Gothic cathedrals with large pointed arches and arched glass windows. The stained glass windows in the apse are colorful and detailed. It has a large nave that seems to go on for yards. The wooden pews are solid as the faith as the people who built this church. The church is a wonderful location for organ and vocal music. The acoustics and sound system are very impressive in this building. The cantor's deep baritone voice carried perfectly and the choice of music was well suited for a somber event.

Services are alright as far as a heathen's perspective goes, enough people singing during mass that you don't even have to pretend to move your lips. Choir's okay. Didn't get too many odd looks when I stayed in the pews while people shuffled up for communion, though I think in two years I only saw one other Asian there and he looked adopted. The flock is primarily a mix of young white families and older white couples. You notice these details in between all the standing and sitting and kneeling and shaking hands with your neighbors. I preferred sitting behind the pillars out of politeness. Very spacious church, though definitely chilly. Seriously love the architecture and stained glass windows, it's the kind of venue little girls might dream about using in the far future.

Not one person said Hello, Are you new, How are you? We felt so out of place and it felt uninviting to be there. Both of our sons are shy and none of the kids came up to them. Needless to say we left after only being there for an hour. Again no one spoke to us. Not a very warm feeling was had by any of us.
