In the start of 2025 I was taken to WHISTON HOSPITAL by ambulance to A &E there is spent 8 hours in…read morethe back of an ambulance then 3 days in the corridor before and allocation of bed on a specific ward was available as I need a separate room due to personal illness and being a C Diff carrier so it's a precaution. But I had to go back on the 14th Dec to A & E once I'd had my bloods done and assessed I A and E it was only a matter of 3 hours then I was allocated a bed on observation ward then treatment began. 24hrs later I was moved to the correct ward in an a room allocated bed. This was a vast improvement which not only assist ing my physical but mental well being in itself. I have being a long term patient in and out on a regular basis been given the best care available by the doctors and nurses at Whiston and can only commend and praise the work and the treatment I have been given. Whilst I was in A&E I must admit I did see a lot of footfall come and go wanting treatment which could've been acquired and was more suitable for the walk in centre locally at the Millenium or seen a doctor if they had rang the surgery to make and emergency appt. The life and capacity is being square out of A&E due to these factors. I would like to give a huge thankyou to the drs and nurses at Whiston Hospital. Whom along with treatment have not only shown me their care but with compassion and empathy also. Hats off to you Whiston Hospital you can only work with what you've got but within 6 months I myself have experienced a vast and impressive improvement. Thanking you Donna McLean

Poor care, my mother says she would rather die than go to Whiston!!…read more The place is new and soulless, clean and tidy, but no care, staff talk between themselves, while you stand waiting to ask for help. They managed to lose my mothers belongings, broke her hearing aid, they could not understand how important a hearing aid is, thinking shouting at a deaf person is the only answer. When you ask for info the Drs answer was I have not seen her, the nurse pulled out a scrap of paper from her pocket!! what happened to records? To telephone you need a password, but you have to go in to get the password, the system is just not right. Car parking a joke, no info on the web site, even parking attendants telling you to park on the grass, taxi ranks full of cars parked in the wrong place. Not enough disabled bays, so cars just dumped all over the area. WH Smiths is so expensive just to buy water or sweets, at least Costa Coffee was ok. All in all It was very disappointing, when the care is so bad for patients they say they will not press the care alarm again, it must be bad. Some nurses were lovely, but it was never the same staff each time you went so confusing and upsetting for elderly people. Come on Whiston, do some fine tuning, make the patients feel cared for, and improve the food, terrible compared to Newton. Its not only medicine that gets people better.

As hospitals go its gorgeous - everything smells new and clean. Everything looks so modern and like theres a good chance it will work haha. The staff here are the staff from the other premises - all be it with new uniforms. The new building seems to have given everybody a bit of the feel good factor as it seems a happy place to be. Appointments always seem to be running to time as nobody ever seems fed up. There is a small chemist here and a big bonus to this local hospital is that it has a doctors surgery on site as well. Although newton seems a small place to have a hosptial such as it is now - it is very easy to get to as the local bus into st helens runs every ten to fifteen minutes.

My experience have all been with the Minor Injuries unit (broken toes, sprained ankles etc) and they've always dealt with me quickly and easily. I was last here last week with a sore foot I'd got while running. In the space of less than an hour I was seen by a nurse, x-rayed, sent back to the nurse and told what was wrong with me - because it's a way out of Leeds, you always get such quick service and treatment, and the nurses are always very competent and professional I find. It's a much less stress free occasion than the A & E of the hospitals in the centre of Leeds, so I'd always choose it over those. Splendid.

I saw Cariology nurse on October last year I am still waiting for my results. It is now the end of June. To say the hospital is nonfunctioning is an exageration. I have a terminal illness but that does not seem to matter as the Nurse said to me "Well after all you are 81" does that mean go home and die. It felt like it. They need in house training not University and then landing on a ward etc with no experience of people.

The parking is somewhat of a contentious issue as it now costs a £1 to attend and is controlled by a security firm. Spaces being limited during visiting times. There is a cafe with your ususal choices, lifts in good operating order and a local community police officer. Adjacent to the hospital which is known as Ysbwty Glan Clwyd or Y.G.C. is the Ablett Ward for the Mental Health Patients. The surrounding area is lovely with the Marble Church in Bodelwyddan a short distance away and the Faenal Fawr hospital next door.

One of the largest hospitals in the area, but may feel under-appreciated or underused with the Manchester Royal Infirmary only a short drive away, which is the largest hospital in the country by the number of beds. The hospital was redeveloped in the early 2010s which was much needed, and the refreshed look still feels modern to this day, it is fairly easy to get around the hospital and find where you need to go, the environment is clean, and the staff are friendly, with overly good standards. I did find a huge contrast between certain areas and wings of the hospital, even down to the modern features and comfort of the chairs, but it is the NHS... you can't expect too much. It's surprisingly easy to get through to someone at the hospital's switchboard, and I was passed to my consultant's secretary and appointment line in a matter of minutes, which is how it should be, while other hospitals can be much more inconsistent. Having a pain in her back her local GP gave her four different medications and told her to call back in two weeks. She developed other side effect in the next 24 hrs including vomiting. An other doctor visited her and pronounce her very sick and pack her off to hospital. The hospital placed her on antibiotics for suspected kidney infection and released her to return home before all tests were completed and without her antibiotics to continue her treatment. What doctors have alway told me is to complete the treatment or the infection will return with vengeance! Within twenty four hours this poor woman had pain back and felt worse. Fancy that! Taken back to this insanity she was then put through triage to see what the problem was. Useful signs on the wall warn you to treat their staff with respect while they attempt to ignore dismiss and discard you, requiring you or you love ones to remain calm cool and collected. You may get good care and attention from this system but have a back up plan because you could end up dead!!

The most recent operation involved a two night stay. The nurses were fantastic and treated us both with a high standard of care and respect. The medical staff on a whole seem to be to far ahead within their heads to even think about looking after the patients the same way as the under paid healthcare staff (HCA's, Nurses, etc). I have seen consultants, specialist registrars and junior doctors of which most seem like things are below them to conduct or partake within. Currently i am writing this from one of the beds within the hospital as i have been here three weeks still having the exact pain and more without a fully pledged treatment plan to care for me. The pain is there always and the pain management team don't want to know! When they are meant to see you their answer is oh well can wait to Monday been long enough and the patient has lasted that long (clearly wants to get to their plans for the weekend considering it was a Friday!). So to top of the pain that i am getting from Peripheral Neuropathy condition which is extreme nerve pain being sent from my brain to my feet with a shooting feeling 24/7 which sits at around 5/6 pain level and gets to a 11/10 around the other times which has be into a foetal ball position and in tears (this is meant to be okay to manage as is!). To top it off i have been experiencing water retention which only was present in my legs now in my abdomen that is leaking and growing by the day that is is now across the whole abdomen and i struggle to breathe, move, sleep and have to stay sitting up otherwise it feels like someone is sitting on your chest. The doctor admits it is beyond his expertise and would need to speak to someone else but thinks this will need to wait till Monday to be addressed. So an asthmatic patient will need to wait for the fluid to continue to build up and cause further stress and difficulty in breathing. Again try not to come here but thank you to most of the staff on Standish ward, just the real workers and not those collecting a pay check and watching their phones!

She was kept informed throughout the day which alleviated a lot of her concerns. Staff were attentive and empathic. Within the last two years, we have had two family members visit for both short and long stays. The hospital has really made lots of progress in delivering a first rate service. Pemberton Ward was the long stay admission and staff there were fantastic. Initally, we went through A and E who were organised and again, informative. Then was moved to Ambulatory Service before receiving the nod to be transferred to a ward. My only gripe was the decision making process whether to admit, was slow. Other than this, it would have had the five stars

We were lucky to be in Liverpool and he was taken to this hospital which is teaching hospital and specializes in heart and lungs. The doctors and nursing staff were wonderful. They could have been a little more forthcoming with how king he needed to stay. Everyday we were told something else. He wound up being there for 5 days and er could boot return to our cruise which was disappointing. The menu here is unbelievable and the food was not your typical hospital fare. There are a few tea times during the day and then a round of soup of the day. Dinner also means tea time which at first was confusing to us. Patients here can just get up and go wherever they want. One roommate ( there were 6 in the room) would go for a cigarette after his nebulizer treatment!!! WTH! The hospital is old and a mess. It was dirty and the bathrooms were disgusting. Elevators are so slow and at high visitor hours difficult to get. I believe there is a new hospital building next door that should have been finished but was not ready yet. That will definitely bump a review up a star. Thre lobby always has something going on... clothing and home goods for sale, Costco memberships, health fair stuff, and even a farmer's market. The doctors were very good and that's the most important part and I feel all in all he was taken care of. We hope never to visit again.
