As an actual parishioner of this church I've attended this picnic since a young child and been to over 30 picnics and I've actually worked/volunteered at the picnic since my 7th grade year and for over 25 years. As mentioned Thursday is strictly a ride night. In the past they have had carnival rides but recently they have switched over to inflatables. They usually charge $15 an armband and you have unlimited usage on the inflatables. They offer the this same package during the picnic on Friday and Saturday nights. The picnic itself consist of place a dime on a number and spin a wheel type games for prizes from booths such as cake, plants, fruit, and toys. They also have booths and games aimed for younger kids such as duck pond, 4 in a row, sand art and even have a used book sale located inside the church. The picnic also features a beer garden out on the baseball field that offers beer tickets (usually $4 a ticket) gambling options like showdown poker, over/under dice game, big 6 and pull Tabs. Food wise they usually have a few carnival style food trucks that offer pizza, pretzels and nachos. They also have a sandwich booth worked by volunteers that sells fish sandwiches, brawts, hotdogs and French fries. Their is a super popular Mexican street corn/elote booth and a taco and fajita booth that is really tasty. To add even more to the great food options the picnic on Saturday only from 4pm-730pm have a chicken dinner inside the gym. This is extremely popular and usually on Saturday at 4pm the ticket line is wrapped around the whole Picnic. Tickets are $13 adult and $10 and you get two big pieces chicken, with unlimited sides featuring noodles, cole slaw, cucumber salad, green beans and tomatoes. It also features unlimited refills of tea, water or lemonade and a ticket for an ice cream. The dinner is worked by the parish members kids and they always work real hard and take care of the customers. The reason the line is so long is they chicken and sides are great. Very filling and tasty meal. Overall a very fun and busy picnic. Friday nights are the more mild nights as Saturday's can get jam packed crowded. Very popular picnic in the area and many refer to it as an okolona (community it is located in) reunion. I'm a bit biased being a long time visitor and worker but me and several others have made very fun and life long memories over this 2-3 day picnic.

I…read moregrew up in this area and I've been to this picnic mini mini years many times I've had a lot of memories and ever since I've had children it's been more difficult to get out to the picnic because I don't really have babysitters and things I have taken them to ride night and they enjoy that but the days in my teens and 20s of going here and just having a blast with all my buddies are long gone but the memories are still there.

You really can't beat the neighborhood; I always love seeing the homes in scenic Old Louisville. This festival is situated in the middle of it all on 1st Street. There are all sorts of vendors--the neighborhood association, artists, local businesses, food trucks, and more. There are also a number of food trucks. I've bought clothes, jewelry, greeting cards, and food here over the years. There's also live music both days, as the fair is typically Friday and Saturday. I think they also have a kids zone on the Saturday with bouncies and so on. This year we got a free bottle of Juicy Juice teasers and had a very bizarre encounter with a man. (Thankfully police were nearby on the latter... Way to go with security, OLSF!) I'll be back!

It had absolutely no shade and I felt so bad for the ladies working this area. Tons of great vendors. Enough food trucks to satisfy even the pickiest of people-... 19 yr old home from college ‍ and a 10 yr old that we still lie to about sausage! We passed Leige ice cream truck and that's our only regret was not walking back over to try some. Next time we might have to just eat ice cream first! Had a great time once we found shade, definitely will return yet again next year.

My husband and I went early enough to not be uncomfortably surrounded by people while visiting the vendor booths. Booths were a mixture of local businesses and groups or small business vendors selling earrings, candles, soaps, cookies, clothing and more. The food vendors were similar to being at the state fair, offering lemonade, corn dogs and funnel cakes. My favorite snack was the popcorn. For the kids they offered a variety of activities - bouncy houses and carnival rides. The Gaslight Festival is actually a few days of events. Most popular activities are the 5k, parade and car show. Street parking can be tough to find but some organizations offer their lot for a small parking fee, which raises money for their group. Keep this in mind if you're wanting to visit a restaurant in the area. (You're likely not going to be able to park at their private lot)

The Jtown Gaslight Festival is a relaxed neighborhood affair -- a perfect festival to close out the…read moresummer with. I was impressed with the amount of booths at this festival -- probably two or three blocks' worth. And these booths included a mix of local businesses and nonprofits, artists and cheaper gifts. For example, if you bring a child and want to buy him/her something inexpensive, you can probably find it here. There is also a car show, which is fun to browse, as well as rides, live music and a variety of fair food. The kettle corn stand made the main thoroughfare smell amazing and rightfully so had a decently long line, which included me. A favorite part was that walking the streets of the festival allowed me to slow down enough to really take in the buildings and businesses lining downtown Jtown. I didn't know that Jtown had its on archeological society, for example. It also provided me an opportunity to check out the new Feast BBQ that just opened in downtown Jtown. Parking was decently easy to come by -- an added plus. It seems like Jtown is becoming a more and more popular place to live and do business. It was fun to see all of this on display at the Gaslight Festival.

I love a good pedestrian area, and we as consumers are more likely to go in places when we can leisurely stroll. There was a music stage and a small area for performers, and a few areas with kid centered things. I really enjoyed that all the businesses were open at one time. I've been walking through Nulu before and tried to stop in a shop during the middle of the day only to discover its closed. This really welcomed people in but also made some areas a little crowded. Overall I'm looking forward to next year to see how they continue to expand.

It's doubled in size and popularity. We spent hours there, plus a stop in their cafeteria for a bite. Booth sales benefit the school band. I tend to shy away from this sort of thing because they tend to be overwhelming, and having so many vendors makes it hard to leave with a clear impression of any in particular. Also, if you're looking to try a new restaurant, why not just read Yelp reviews? That said, I think Taste of 502 makes a good effort. Events like these can be variable, even from year to year. Will it be crowded? Is the price point reasonable? And will I even get enough to eat? Our experience this year was that it's a lot of fun. We were already familiar with most of the restaurants and shops, so we weren't just running around in a fog. And there was no danger of going home hungry. Even as the (reasonable-sized) crowds dissipated, most of the vendors still had plenty of food. Lines weren't much of a problem, and you can walk around without clutching your plate near your chest. And true to the local spirit, more than half the room was dedicated to sugar, fat, and alcohol. In short, it was at least as much fun as a standard night on the town would be, and a fine way to have a good time, all in the good name of community spirit. I may or may not return for this event, but I certainly will return to many of the eateries it showcases.

The 2016 Taste of 502 Event was fantastic! I had a blast. It's been a while since I've enjoyed…read moremyself so much. There were oodles of different food vendors with lots of things to try! An equal amount of food, drinks and desserts samples were present from what I could see. Wild Rita's had one of the tastiest desserts I tried. Shout out to Rye for their pork samples that were fabulous, and Cake flour for the a-mazing bourbon chocolate fudge brownies. There were pasta dishes, tons of savory treats, appetizers, salads, shrimp kaboobs, cookies, pie, cakes, ice cream, and brownie samples! And of course, a large variety of drink samples from wine to vodka mixes to bourbon. After being stuffed from trying all that food, we stopped to take a picture in the complimentary photo booth. Plenty of seating, easy to socialize, leave and join another table. It was crowded but not uncomfortable and vendors not difficult to access. It was a cool local event and fun getting to try out the treats of different businesses around Louisville. I definitely found 3 or 4 that I'm enthused to go visit. I look forward to attending this event again next year.

The kiddos plus cousins recently invaded the Kentucky Science Center. We got to explore it much…read moremore than we had been able to before, and I left with more appreciation for all that it offers. The kids played with the sensory activities, the dinosaur and animal exhibits, engineering fun, the makerspace and so much more. We ended up spending a couple hours there, and we could have stayed longer if not for impending nap times. The facility was clean and so much for everyone to learn. Our family members, who were visiting from Philly, lamented the fact that they don't have a kids science museum like this by them. It was neat to see it through their eyes. We also ended up getting the membership that also includes the Louisville Zoo. As long as we visit twice, the membership will be a deal. The science center also hosts great events, including some fun ones for adults. Plus we need to go back and see a film in its theater. Like I wrote in my last review of the center, it's a gem!

It's conveniently located in the heart of downtown Louisville alongside other museums like the slugger museum. We were lucky and able to find metered parking around the corner. My biggest complaint with this museum was the price $$$ to experience ratio. The price was on par with some of the nicer museums of this nature like Cosi in Columbus, Carnegie in Pittsburgh, etc but the experience wasn't up to the same level. It also felt like there were a lot of kids not being watched closely so we had to keep an extra close eye on our younger crew in this space. The museum features playscapes, hands-on experiences, space exhibits, creamy area, water play, etc. making it ideal for ages two and up.
