***This review is based on the food and the annual fundraisers in May.*** The church and church school has an annual fundraiser in May. This is my 3rd time attending as my sweetie's band is one of the music groups that perform each year. My sweetie's music was awesome as well as the other band that I got to see and listen to prior to their band performing. Upbeat tunes to support a good cause. The fundraiser had many rides and games for kids. There were also areas where various items were for sale. I scored some cute costume jewelry consisting of earrings, bracelet, and a necklace for $3. OK, for the food! There were some choices such as booths for Mexican food, Filipino food, and others. Of course I gravitated to the bargain $5 plate of Filipino food. See the photo: delectable lumpia, choice of either chicken BBQ or pork on a skewer, delicious pancit, and white rice. All cooked perfectly! Mad props to the church volunteers especially the Filipino staff at the food and ticket booths. This church fundraiser was held on the same day that Pacquiao and Mayweather were fighting and they could have been somewhere else but they were there at the fundraiser doing a great job. All the volunteers were so nice and hospitable. This event usually takes place once in May, so if you or your family are around the SFV area of LA this is a great event to take the family to enjoy excellent music, food, and family fun. read more

Our family's experience at St. John Baptist de La Salle was deeply disappointing and, ultimately, left us feeling unheard, unsupported, and frustrated. As a parent, I often felt that concerns raised with school administration, including Mrs. Monaco and Mrs. Tin, were not addressed in a constructive or supportive manner. In my opinion, communication with our family was frequently difficult, and I did not feel that our concerns regarding our children were given the attention they deserved. Rather than feeling like partners in our children's education, we often felt dismissed when legitimate concerns were brought forward. Over several years, we attended multiple meetings seeking assistance and resolution. We also met with our parish priest on three separate occasions. He was compassionate, understanding, and supportive of our son. Unfortunately, despite those meetings, we did not see meaningful improvements in the issues that prompted us to seek help. We made every effort to resolve concerns through the appropriate channels before reaching the point of sharing our experience publicly. Another major concern for our family was the academic preparation provided by the school. My daughter was an Honor Roll student throughout her time at St. John Baptist de La Salle, yet when it came time to prepare for high school entrance exams, she felt completely unprepared in math. We ultimately had to hire a private tutor to help her learn material that we believed should have been covered more thoroughly in the classroom. As a parent, it was frustrating to see an Honor Roll student struggle with entrance exam preparation despite years of private school tuition. In our experience, there was a significant gap between the grades students received and their actual readiness for more rigorous academic programs. Based on our experience and conversations with other families, I have concerns about whether students are being adequately prepared for competitive high school admissions. The final year was especially difficult. During a time when families were already dealing with serious concerns involving student safety and an ongoing investigation, the school's focus seemed to be on discipline rather than compassion. My son was required to serve a detention during Junior Olympics, one of the final graduation activities. Even after completing the detention, he was not allowed to participate in the remaining event and was forced to sit and watch while his classmates continued. Watching him be excluded from one of the last experiences of his middle school years was heartbreaking. In addition, despite repeated requests made both in person and through email, I was unable to obtain copies of my son's disciplinary records and student file. As a parent, I believe I should have access to information regarding my child's disciplinary history, especially when decisions affecting graduation activities were being made. A school should be a place where children feel supported, parents feel heard, and academics prepare students for future success. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. My hope is that the school, its administration, and the Archdiocese take a serious look at the concerns being raised by families and work toward improving transparency, communication, accountability, student support, and academic standards. After several difficult years, I am relieved that this chapter is behind us and that my family has moved on. I would like to bring to your attention the malicious behavior I received from your staff while attending the 7:30am mass on 1/24/24.   I've been a Parishioner here for over 38 years and am also married at this parish.  I am concerned about how I was treated when having handicapp access to handicapp parking spaces.  I parked in the designated handicapp spot next to the office, when I was abruptly and rudely intruded by a short Asian woman from the office and a Caucasian woman who ambushed me saying I couldn't park there because children were present when the parking lot was completely empty and there were no children in sight.  I expressed that I was parking legally in a designated handicapped space and I was going to be late for mass from there ambush.  To deescalate the situation I moved my car to opposite side in another handicapp parking spot where the Caucasian and Asian woman were satisfied and I proceeded into the church to attend mass rushing and limping to the entrance.      When I came out of mass at around 8:30am I see a African-American security personnel standing next to my car, and I as approach him he informed me that the two ladies from earlier told him that I wouldn't move my car and had him wait there for me till I came out of mass to tell me that I can never parking there again.  This harassment and malicious act I received from these two women represents our parish which is unacceptable and won't go unnoticed. This was a direct and deliberate willful act of mercilessness of noncharity against another disabled Parishioner which goes against our faith.    Let me reiterate that I am capable of elevating this matter to the pertinent legal authorities if I don't get an apology or if this happens to me again or another parishioner in the future. read more

Archdiocese of Los Angeles I have been very unsuccessful in my efforts to contact you, but I can't stop until you grant me a meeting. I know that you care about the schools that you overlook, but more importantly the families and our beautiful children. I know that you would want to know and listen to both sides of the story before a final decision is made. This is where my feelings of urgency are stemming from. My son was treated unfairly and cruelly, as a result he is at home deeply depressed and feeling defeated without a single clue as to what led him there. I would like to recount the events that led to my son's "withdrawal" as well as the events that followed after that. On Wednesday, March 8th I was repeatedly contacted by the principal, Mrs. Monaco, regarding a STEP Meeting which had been postponed several times throughout the year. I was alarmed by her insistent behavior, and I changed my meetings around so that I could attend. This was a last-minute plan, I try to schedule everything in advance due to my hectic schedule. Little did I know that we were not meeting to discuss my son's plan of action to help him be more successful as a student, but it was to dismiss him--discard him---from a school we have grown to love and trust. The reason was that due to his "behavioral issues" the teacher, principal and pastor made this drastic decision. I went back and made a note of all the correspondence between me, the teacher and principal and nowhere did it state that an incident or a series of incidents would lead to that type of decision. In fact, my son only served one detention and that was back in October of last year. Jaden didn't ever get another detention or even a suspension. Isn't there supposed to be a method or a series of steps that must be taken before "withdrawing" a student? And if this was a consequence, they felt was right for my child, why wasn't it communicated with me? Even as of today, I have yet to get a formal document stating what happened to my son and the reasoning behind it. My son has been through a lot of trauma and pain this year. He has been really sensitive, and he tends to shut down when he gets frustrated, tired and overwhelmed. The loss of his grandmother early in the year and recently the loss of two more relatives within weeks of each other this month, have deeply affected him and we are working through his feelings, not just at home, but professionally. At the start of the year, Mrs. Monaco had several stipulations: get him a one on one tutor, have him see the school counselor and/or a private counselor, follow through at home with any consequences or incidents that are communicated to me by his teacher etc. We signed that contract and we met every single one of her requests. Why can she follow through and follow with her word of keeping him at DLS for the year? We only had two months to go and we were happy to look for another school, but, like I mentioned before, this was a rash and impulsive decision. We also made the time to meet with Father Ramon. He explained that Jaden's teacher was too overwhelmed to continue to have him in her classroom. Again, Archdiocese how is that fair? He also shared that they asked the other 4th grade teacher if she would accept him in her class and that she adamantly refused. Since when are teachers allowed to accept students in their classrooms as if they were administrators? It seems illogical, unfair, and biased. All matters that I want to avoid taking to court, I am planning on pursuing if I am not heard by all the people involved. Father ended our meeting by saying that he would agree to let Jaden finish the school year and his tutor, Mrs. Mares, would be the liaison between us and the school. I wasn't completely happy with this decision, but at least, in that moment, I felt that Father actually cared about Jaden and was at least trying to meet us halfway. Only to hear back from Father this past Friday to tell me that after a phone call with you, he was told that his promise of letting Jaden finish the year, had been revoked that Jaden's official last day of school would be this Friday, March 24th. Archdiocese again, I don't understand how that is what is best for my 10 year old. He deserves better treatment from all of us. This is wrong. Archdiocese, I am ready and willing to do whatever it takes to make this right with his teacher and principal. I just want to be treated fairly. I still feel that my son deserves the opportunity to finish the school year. Would you be willing to call me so that we can talk over a better plan of action. I have been looking for another school, in case we can't resolve our issues at De La Salle, but I haven't been able to. I would appreciate your time and consideration. We have been a part of DLS for 5 years. My two daughters have had wonderful experiences with the students, teachers and staff here. They are supportive, caring and very approachable. They can be easily contacted and do not hesitate to answer any questions. The principal Mrs. Monaco is wonderful-- she listens to parents and students. Since becoming the principal, we have seen awesome changes at our school! We also like the small community here as our kids do not get "lost" and everyone knows each other. My kids love this school and enjoy being there everyday! read more

We have been part of the DLS school community since 2015 and have had a wonderful experience each year. Teachers are supportive, approachable, and dedicated to seeing success in the students school performance. We were fortunate enough to have Mrs. Monaco, who is now the principal, as our daughter's 4th grade teacher. She took the time to know her students and work with them throughout the year. That year, our daughter not only grew academically, but spiritually. Mrs. Monaco has a true passion for education and the Catholic faith, and her passion was shared with her students. We are so grateful for all the positive experiences we have had at DLS and all the wonderful relationships we have made with other families that will last long after our daughter graduates from It is truly a community that I'm grateful to have found for my children. read more

This school was truly the gem of the valley. I went there as a student many years ago and now my sister's children go there and I am so disappointed to see such an amazing school being led by an administrator (Mrs. Monaco) with little to no experience. I have come to this conclusion based on the interactions I've had with her and the stories I have heard from my different family members and friends. My niece and nephew have shared how they (and other students) are treated by their principal, and it is so disappointing. I pick them up from school several days a week and the stories I hear from the back seat are just so disheartening. Examples of bulling, body shaming, giving detention for the smallest reasons and she even threatens to go on their field trips as a method of getting a class to be behave. I have also learned that her superiors are giving parents with concerns the run around instead of talking to her and getting her to realize the type of environment she is creating. Isn't this a Catholic School? Is this what you get when you pay tuition? And I just heard that they raised the fees and tuition by a lot. What is happening? My sister is too afraid to approach the principal, in fear of retaliation, so I am hopeful that I can at least share from our experience so that you are not in the same situation we are in. Parents, please talk to your kids and make sure that they aren't bullied or made to feel uncomfortable by her, especially if they are in the higher grades. School is supposed to a safe place. I can only express my gratitude to their hardworking and loving teachers because my niece and nephew mention them as well. I just fear that because of one person, Mrs. Monaco, all the amazing teachers will be forced to leave. The teachers are seriously the only reason my sister keeps the kids there. In all fairness, I don't blame the teachers if they do leave, they deserve to be treated with respect, fairness, and get paid what public school teachers get paid. My daughter attended St. John Baptist De la Salle Catholic School from kindergarten though 8th grade. For kindergarten we looked into many other catholic schools, but none really stood out to us. We eventually decided to enroll her into De La Salle and it was the best decision we could've possibly made.The teachers and staff at the school are great, and the education she received there is by far better than any public school could offer. The reinforcement of our Catholic faith helped her find her religious identity and grow closer to God. I highly recommend this school to who ever wishes for their child to receive a great catholic education. read more

Unfortunately, I didn't think I was ever going to have to write this review. I pulled my daughter out in 5th grade due to bullying from a teacher. Who now is the Principal. Mrs. Monaco. My heart was broken when my daughter was struggling with a learning disorder. In the mist of getting my daughter diagnosed. Mrs. Monaco would repeatedly pick and bully my child in 4th GRADE!! My daughter was suffering from Constant migraines, stomach aches, & extreme anxiety over going to school. She was biting her nails one day, & Monaco approached from the back & said to her, "That is a nasty little habit, if you don't stop, I will give you detention." Do I need to say more..... this was my final straw. I wish I had more time to write. None the less, we pulled her out at the end of that yr and enrolled her in a loving, modernized, highly educated Christian private school. And she is now excelling. Love this church! Grew up in this church! Went to school here for 8 years, graduated in '03. Been going to this church every week since 1st grade. This parish has been here for me throughout most of my Sacraments... Reconcilliation, Confirmation, First Holy Communion.. Marriage? Last Rights? HAH o__o too soon. Beautiful Church. On special occasions, it can be packed.. But not to worry, hidden behind the alter is a huge projector screen that is raised up (on eagles wings) on these special occasions, plus some flat screen televisions located throughout the church just in case you can't clearly see what's going on on the altar. Weekend Mass times are: SAT: 5:00pm SUN: 7:30am, 9:00am, 10:30am, 12:00pm Yeah, I still go here. I'm still a Eucharistic Minister, you may see me march right up to the altar during the "Lamb of God". If you see me, you can say Hi, I guess. but don't take it personally if I initially kinda just get weirded out, or give an awkward smile, or just look and walk away. hah i kid. read more

There seems to be a lot of controversy surrounding the school but no one seems to want to say anything. Regardless, my kid loves his school, he loves his friends, parents are great so I'm happy and I will continue to support the school. If your kid is entering 3rd grade I'd just beware of the teacher. Totally biased and plays favoritism. It was heartbreaking to hear my kid tell us his teacher does not like him and he was not a favorite. Where would he even get that idea if he wasn't made to feel that way in school? I am proud of my kid because despite feeling that way it made him stronger and did not discouraging from wanting to go back to school every morning. If anything it challenged him to do even better. I won't go into detail but several issues were raised to the teacher as well as the school. I would not say no action was taken as a result however actions made by the teacher definitely made us and our kid feel this was retaliation for us being vocal. We were forewarned prior to the start of the school year but the only choice was to pull our kid out but why do so if he loves his school. No issues with the church! Fr. The Catholic Community of St. John Baptist de La Salle has been our home for the past four years. We have formed some beautiful friendships, attend mass weekly with our small children and send them to the school as well. We are thrilled to be part of the 32nd Annual Festival that is (now in the fall) and find Monsignor Milbauer to be laid back and real, Father Ramon to be full of fresh energy and adoring to the families and Father Kirsch to be engaging and spot on with his homilies. Parking is easy, masses are traditional, confession is offered Wednesday and Saturday. I'd love to see a few modern elements like an updated bulletin and website and FB added but it's coming. :0 read more

This review is for their First Holy Communion policy. First, they strictly do no allow siblings to be with the child therefore breaking the family dynamics. Instead of encouraging the family to go to mass together and inculcating in children the need for a family time especially in receiving this holy sacrament. Second, I was trying to take a picture of my child and husband, a teacher came to me glaring saying "go back to the car". Well, I was socially distant with a mask on. She only had a shield and approached me for less than 6ft away. As I went back into the car, another family came up trying to take a picture of their child and well, I guess they know each other, that teacher hugged them and allowed them to take pictures. Hypocrisy at it's best when they should be teaching children kindness and respect. We just joined this parish amid conflicting feedback. THIS SCHOOL TOOK DOWN MY PREVIOUS REVIEW BECAUSE I SPOKE THE TRUTH OF WHAT HAPPENED TO ME THERE! I do not recommend this school to anyone. There is an extreme problem with bullying at this school that administration has ignored for years, all the way since the early 2000's. This school fails at punishing students because parents donate a good amount of money. I was physically injured by another student and has to wear a cast for a month, the teacher ignored it and attributed it as the male classmate 'had a crush and didn't know how to display it'. I was shamed for trying to speak up and called a tattletale by actual adults and told to ignore what was going on. I was also sexually harassed and assaulted by many male students but when I spoke out what happened, I was seen as a nuisance. Administration told me that it would be impossible for all the boys to get in trouble for what they had down and I was only allowed to name one male student so that it would be an example for the rest. As a child, I had to do what they told me to do and repress what happened to me. After that situation, the boy was still allowed on school property and finish out the school year because he was a 'nice boy' and they 'couldn't believe what he had done'. This school is the biggest regret of my life and I still carry what happened to me on daily basis. Please, if you care about your child, DO NOT SEND THEM TO DE LA SALLE! read more
