Excellent "back to basics" education. Students are challenged and there are high expectations to succeed. Parents volunteer a lot.

My daughter transferred to Channing Hall for 4th grade after we moved from another city. We chose…read morethis school because it presented itself as an IB and Platinum STEM charter school. However, after one year, we realized the school's priority is fundraising, not education. Communication with both the teacher and the school administration was extremely difficult. The teacher would only actively contact parents when requesting donations. Homework was never graded, and when we asked about it, the teacher told us she simply did not have time. The STEM curriculum was far too easy. Even though my daughter had skipped a grade, she was still often bored in class. The teacher at Channing Hall even placed her in a slow math group, despite the fact that she passed the school district's assessment and was invited to join the SALTA (Supporting Advanced Learners Toward Achievement) magnet program. When we requested a brief five-minute conversation after school at 1:30 p.m. to discuss our daughter's math placement, the teacher refused and had the front desk block us from entering the school. She claimed she was busy preparing for a STEM exhibition, even though the event didn't begin until 5:00 p.m. This unwillingness to communicate was a major red flag. The IB program is meant to provide an inquiry-based curriculum that fosters global awareness, but this was not the case at Channing Hall. The so-called "international" curriculum was superficial, limited to short readings about holidays or famous people, with no meaningful classroom discussion. The comprehension questions were simplistic and lacked depth. One more telling sign was that a teacher at Channing Hall planned to transfer her own daughter to a different school the following year. It is hard to have faith in a school when its own staff lacks confidence in the program. After one year, we transferred our daughter to another public school. Since then, she has been academically challenged and genuinely happy. Unfortunately, even after leaving Channing Hall, the communication difficulties continued. We requested a refund of the remaining balance in our daughter's lunch account, but despite repeated emails over two months to the Business Manager and later to the Head of School, we received no response. When we called to follow up, the front desk was very rude and impatient. Leadership at the school is also concerning. At other schools we have attended, principals are visible and approachable. At Channing Hall, my daughter never saw or even knew who the Head of School was. Combined with poor communication and an emphasis on flashy fundraising exhibitions over educational quality, this raises serious questions about the school's priorities. If you care about your children's education, look elsewhere. Don't let the "platinum" label fool you. There are many excellent public schools in the Canyons School District, and families can easily apply online to attend schools outside their neighborhood boundaries. You will likely have a far more professional and rewarding experience than we did at Channing Hall.

When the new principal came, things took a turn. A student, used to attend this school a while ago…read more I was an old student of Channing. She was treated like she was somehow more special than any other kid. She used to bully, cyberbully, have her phone out, and more. Schools have a responsibility to provide a safe environment for all students, and it's important for them to address such behaviors appropriately. They only suspended her, never took her out of school. By the way, this is an OPINION. By the first amendment, I have the right to speak freely if I'm not being offensive. I just am saying what they did. Btw I'm posting this here because in google it is prob going to get removed just like my friend's.

Challenger has probably been one of the worst schools I've ever gone to. Not only are the teachers…read moretrained poorly, but the blatant favoritism. Firstly, many of the teachers are unqualified for their position. For instance, one of the extended teachers will purposely select students to move seats for no given reason. When someone asks why the student is getting moved, the teacher will just laugh and then tell them to move. She's also highly impatient and has been arrested, which, in my opinion, seems like a valid reason to not hire someone. Next, Mrs, Gourgeon is very fake to parents and puts on a facade to everyone. When someone gets sent to the office, she doesn't let the person explain their side of the story and will get mad at people if they don't answer exactly what she asked. A few teachers very noticeably favor some students over others, asking some students questions more questions than others or only listening to students they like. Overall, Challenger has a lot of discrimination towards to different students - whether it's between actual teaching or after school, there's a lot of prejudice.

We have both our girls attending one of the Challenger schools…read more Great teachers. Academics, study habits, confidence builders in speech and memorization. I have no Idea under which scale other people leave 6 stars…read more I am one those parents that care about my kids and It is very important to know what, she learned during the day and if everything was fine. Some other parent may or may not care about this stuff. I am only speaking based on my own experiences. Since August 27, 2018, to Dec 13 two incident occurred to my daughter, first one was one of the other kid hit my daughter's head, and last Friday one other kid attack my thoughts with Scissors. The question comes to my mind 1- Does presuming teacher supervise the kids? 2-Because kindergarten students are generally about 5 to 6 years old, they require constant monitoring to ensure that they are not engaging in unsafe behavior. In addition to providing physical safety, kindergarten teachers must maintain a warm and welcoming environment in which young children feel emotionally safe. My review is very generous, I should give two stards instead because the kindergarten teacher did follow up safety procedures and intentionally or unintentionally created an unsafe zone for my daughter and other students. If that Scissors attack was hit to her eyes instead of her finger, she would lose her eye for ever. Because of this, I can not afford to send my daughter back to this school and I won't recommend any parents who care about their children send them to this school under current management policies.

Please Please Please do not take your fun active children to this school! I am shocked and appalled…read moreby the behavior of the teachers. They target children they do not like. They have no concept of how to redirect children's attention and keep them engaged. My child would come home constantly feeling horrible and like they are a really awful kid. I will never return my child to this school. Enough is enough! I let it slide for too long. They had me thinking it was my kid and I am now able to see right through them. Awful teachers and the owner is beyond unprofessional. She truly has no clue what it's like to be a child. Protect your children from a traumatic experience like this. They are trusted to set the tone for the rest of your child's school career. Take this seriously. This is not the school for energetic children.
