I have been living at St. John's Nursing Center for the past 10 years, and I am truly grateful for the care and support I have received. The staff goes above and beyond to make residents feel comfortable, respected, and cared for every day. I would especially like to recognize some of the wonderful nurses and CNAs who have made a positive difference in my life, including Ms. Yvonne, Rose, Ms. Edaise, Yudely, and Belus. They are compassionate, attentive, and always willing to help with a smile. Their kindness and dedication make St. John's feel like home. Before bringing my parents to St. John's, I read a lot of negative reviews and was honestly concerned. But after touring the facility and now having two family members cared for here, I can confidently say those reviews did not reflect the reality I experienced. As a healthcare professional, I understand how these environments work. Rehab centers are not hotels. They are clinical settings caring for people who are often very sick, sometimes incontinent, and recovering from major medical events. Some reviewers seem to misunderstand that. Yes, you may occasionally smell something unpleasant, but that is part of the nature of this level of care. What matters is that the staff respond quickly, and at St. John's, they do. I also noticed several complaints online about the food. What many people don't realize is that meals in rehab facilities follow medical diets, safety guidelines, and physician orders. If something isn't working for a patient, the dietitian is available to discuss alternatives, adjust preferences, and help find options that meet both nutritional needs and personal tastes. Complaints about food are understandable, but they are also easily addressed if you communicate with the team. The nurses, aides, therapists, and administrators have been consistently kind, respectful, and attentive. Any time I approached them with a question or concern, they addressed it. They cared for my mother after a serious lung infection and helped her regain her strength through their excellent PT and OT department. She left functioning close to her baseline, which is a testament to how hard the rehab team worked. My father is now recovering here after a hip fracture, and the rehab team has been just as dedicated. Pushing him appropriately, aligning goals with me, and keeping his recovery on track. I owe a lot to St. John's. If you choose this facility, stay engaged, communicate openly, and set realistic expectations for your loved one's recovery. My experience with this nursing home has been very disappointing. My father did not receive the level of care and attention we were led to expect. Communication with our family was inconsistent, and it was often difficult to get clear answers about his care and well-being. We were concerned about the responsiveness of the staff and felt that some of our concerns were not taken seriously or addressed in a timely manner. Seeing a loved one in a nursing home is already stressful, and families should be able to trust that their concerns will be heard and acted upon. If I could give zero stars, I would. My experience with this facility was deeply disappointing and left me questioning whether patient care is truly its priority. My mother was recovering from major surgery and was nowhere near ready to function independently, yet there appeared to be far more urgency around getting her discharged than ensuring she could do so safely. The lack of communication, accountability, and compassion was staggering. Family concerns were treated as inconveniences rather than legitimate questions about a vulnerable patient's well-being. Instead of feeling supported during a difficult recovery, we felt forced into a constant battle to obtain information and advocate for care that should have been provided without argument. A rehabilitation facility exists to help patients recover, not to treat them like items moving through an assembly line. When a patient cannot safely stand, transfer, or care for themselves, pushing for discharge raises serious questions about whose interests are actually being served. I would strongly encourage families to ask hard questions, document everything, and not assume this facility is acting in their loved one's best interests. Worst experience. I was admitted for 10 days following spine surgery. I was told I was going to John Knox. I kept asking the transport where they were going because they got on 95 going south. Wrong direction. We arrived at the facility and they shared with me we're here. My response: Where are we? They announced St John's nursing center in Lauderhill. My friend was told before we left Holy Cross that we're going to John Knox. She's not familiar with the area but somehow after going to John Knox and calling Holy Cross, she made it to St John's. Stress. First night, I was without pain meds for 12 hours although I brought pain meds they took them away and refused to give them to me. They had to order from an outside pharmacy and it was not in the first pharmacy delivery. I was in tears by the time one of the managers supplied me with the pain medication I had brought with me. After that , they put me on for scheduled 4-hour pain medications. Over medicated. Now that I'm home I've cut their pain medications in half. I would say half of the CNA's do not speak English and the rest are limited. Probably only 10% speak English fluently. They would ask three times for what do you want because they didn't understand. Change diaper, brush teeth, bathe. Etc. Apologies if TMI. I was not constipated when I arrived. I've gone twice since the surgery. Now after being in there for 10 days and not going, I am home now. I am extremely constipated and excruciatingly painful. They say they gave me colace every morning. I don't know they gave me so many pills. They also took my glycerin suppositories. I was told they put them behind the nurses station. They didn't have them. Two different representatives looked in the cabinet in my room and did not see them. After I was allowed to stand up, I looked in the cabinet and there they were right in front. Disorganized. No communication between the representatives as they did not know a nurse had said they had taken them and then apparently decided not to keep them put them back. I was actually berated by a nurse for not telling her specifically, that I was constipated. Apologies for belaboring the point but there's a reason. I told multiple other employees just not her directly as there are many nurses. Again no communication between the employees. They also told me to put on a diaper because they said felt the bedpan was hurting my incision. Prefer back to the half hour on the bedpan because the representative was accusing me of bearing false witness against a person I don't know the name of nor could I describe. The diaper was so they would not have to come as often example three hours for a bedpan. When you call with the diaper on you have to use the call four times so 2 hours. The representative would turn off the light and say I'll tell "your" assigned CNA. Again no communication. Again the diaper was not for my benefit, it was for theirs. They are definitely short staffed. Excruciatingly painful today. Thankfully home. Didn't mention, on the day I arrived, the nurse put me on the bedpan and said her assistant would be in in a few minutes. The assistant came in after 10 minutes looked at me turned around and walked out. She did come back 20 minutes later so half hour on a bedpan pressing into my incision. She then accused me of telling the manager that she did something wrong. I didn't know her name. Had no idea what she was talking about. This is no doubt why she turned around and left. I had asked a nurse to clarify another representative told me not to push the call button as that was for emergencies only. Didn't know the name of the representative nor could I provide a description. I was told no that is the call button that you call when you need a CNA. Manager took her off my service. So there you have it Unprofessional Do not speak English Do not help within the confines of what the agreed up services. Do I need to continue? Worst experience Honestly there were open beds when I arrived. There were more open beds on the day I left. I'm shocked. I'm in Florida. Land of the old people. Beds are at a premium everywhere else. John Knox had no available beds. I will le Food was horrible. On the day I came back from my surgeon's 2nd post up, I can only describe it as I was ambushed by six department heads in my little room. Apparently Aetna had determined not to extend my stayll0 . At first it was scary because I had not taken care of myself at all due to all of their restrictions. I found out from Aetna that I had home care and In-Home PT, thankfully. read more

The nurses I had were excellent however the one night nurse was just incompetent. I had a migraine asked for medication at 7pm she came back at 10pm no meds. Asked for charge nurse no one showed up because that night nurse never told them. Had no idea they do not have a pharmacy on site but they can provide meds when necessary. This nurse said nothing. Meds are delivered the next morning. If it had not been for the nursing assistant offering me an ice pack I was calling rescue to get me out of there. I checked in on a Friday and left first thing Monday morning.. food was disgusting. I never received any therapy and they still tried to charge my insurance which I disputed. Catholic facility but not worth a penny. Do your due diligence before going there. read more

My 91 year old mom fell and fractured her pelican bone. After 3 days in the hospital, she was transferred to St John's Nursing Center. My mom was a patient for several weeks and I spent 3 to 5 hours per day with her. I absolutely have to say that my mom's experience and level of care at St. John's was phenomenal! The nursing staff, social worker, physical therapists, occupational therapists, support staff, dietitians and all involved was of the highest quality I have ever witnessed. The meals were top quality and my 72 lb mom gained 4 pounds during her stay!Her recovery was quick and so caring! while I never wish for anyone to need post hospital nursing care, if someone you love or you need same, I would highly and wholeheartedly recommend St. John's Nursing Center as the place that will provide the highest quality care, as well as peace of mind for the family of the patient. Never got a phone call never got a letter. These people could care less is a reason why they are rated at three and that would be way too good of a rating to send me home without medication on a Saturday afternoon and tell me to call their doctor who's not around until Monday What did they expect me to do? Our sister broke her hip almost three and a half years ago and she has dementia, has been living at ST John's Nursing Center. She is receiving palliative care. She receives very good care from the nurses and staff. She shares a room, the space is a little tight, it's kept clean and tidy. The food was okay and there was a menu to chose from each day. Memorial West sent my mom here and she is a chemo patient. She was sent to their rehab unit. You would think after VOVID the rooms would be private but of course not be sise they need to stack up as many patients as possible to bill insurances. I called and spoke to the staff and social worker of my mom needing a private room because she is immune compromised due to being a chemo patient. They did not care telling me she is not in a private room. The social worker even made the suggestion of sending my mom back to the ER. For what? That made no sense. They knowing my mom could be sick still put another patient in her room and didn't not accommodate her medical needs making her leave AMA. On top of this they had my mother on oxygen when my mom is not oxygen dependent and does not need oxygen this only proves even further the incompetents of this facility. I would never recommend this place to any patients. I will be reporting this location to the state for putting patients health in danger. The patient left without her rehab and if something happens this location will be getting sued. This review is written by an ER/ICU nurse who is currently a manager at a rehab faculty now and I would ALWAYS accommodate my patients need over financial gain. I would had kept the other bed empty be abuse the patient was already there. This will be reported to the state as I stated above. read more

My mom lived at St John's for the past 9-10 months. She was well taken care of by the crew at the facility, from the nurses, CNAs, to Doctors and therapists. Two outstanding caregivers are Clarissa and Veronica. Clarissa, the Director of Nursing, was always willing to respond to text messages and phone calls. She would explain the care mom needed and was always willing to go check on mom if we had a specific concern. Veronica, part of the activities department for residents, was always going one step beyond for mom's happiness. There is only the highest praise for Veronica, as she made sure mom got outside and participated in activities. read more

We were extremely happy with the care our mother received over the past nine months. The staff were extremely professional and attentive. My sibling and live in various parts of the country and the staff was very accommodating to our' and our mother's needs. A special shoutout to Clarissa, the director of nursing, who always made herself available to answer any question or concern. Veronica, who is a member of the activity department was also key as she kept mom motivated and always made time to chat with her. She provided us with great feedback regarding her participation in activities. We always knew what mom was doing versus an answer like not much. Thank you all! read more

I was at St. John's Nursing and Rehab Center for 3 weeks to receive PT/OT after 8 days in the hospital. I needed PT/OT until I could walk and take care of myself at home where I live alone. The PT and OT at St. John's are very good which is why I chose to recuperate there. My only complaint is I would like to have had sessions twice/day instead of only once for 45 to 60 mins. The nursing care is good but sometimes slow to respond because they seem to be short staffed. Nurses on day shifts were more helpful and pleasant than night nurses. Food was OK and there were choices for each meal. The facility was clean and odor-free. I was in a large semi-private room and the staff did a good job assigning compatible folks to share it with me. I would choose St. John's again if I needed inpatient PT/OT after a hospitalization. But my first choice would be their sister rehab facility, St. Anthony's, if I could get in! read more

Having read the reviews on their website I cast a suspicious and sceptical eye on everything. Rehabbing from a hip replacement I arrived in pain and received immediate care. 95 percent of the nursing staff is better than good, they're outstanding. RN Ambo and CNA Kimberly stood out, as did several others. When the day housekeeper for 220b saw a need that didn't involve housekeeping she didn't hesitate. I got the impression that the staff was told to help with anything they could to assist patients whatever their primary job. Jesse and Jordan in PT were excellent and friendly, patient and understanding. Thanks to both as well as Melody who was lovely and made me laugh. I would recommend this rehab unreservedly. I was a patient there after Spine Surgery. I have to say the Physical Therapy Department was pretty good. They rushed my treatment because the Facility was woefully understaffed. This was especially true of the Nursing staff. Many nights I laid in my bed suffering from excruciating pain and even though the pain medicine to make me comfortable was prescribed by my Doctor the Nursing staff just didn't respond. I would ring the nurse call button and after 30 minutes a nursing assistant would come into my room and turn off the light. They wouldn't give me the prescribed medicine they would just turn off the light. Making a patient suffer like I did is not care it's torture. read more

My mom was helped out here. The staff did the best they could during a pandemic . No it wasn't always organized but I believe they did their very best. The food was good according to my mother as well as her treatment . I would choose this place again if I needed to. Social services wasn't helpful to be honest. The nurses and CNAs were friendly and understanding not always but 85% time. The rooms were tight . Accommodations could use improvements. But overall I'm glad. read more

This is the single worst care facility I have ever encountered. My mother was there for 2 weeks after breaking her hip while she was I FL on vacation. When she needed to go to the bathroom, it would always take a minimum of an hour for someone to help her into the bathroom. Most of the time they would just tell her to pee in the bed and they will clean it up later. Not one time in 2 weeks did they even look at her bandage or check the condition of the sutures to make sure they were not becoming infected. I was unable to fly down to bring her home to OK myself so I made arrangements for her through American Airlines for her to fly home. All this facility had to do was arrange transportation to the airport and they couldn't even manage that. I had to call an Uber to pick her up. She was supposed to have pain meds before leaving the facility but when they woke her up, they told her that her pain prescription ran out the night before and gave her Tylenol. They are completely and totally incompetent. Their phone and bedside manner are horrid. read more
