Doctors Kim and Dr. C were compassionate, and the surgeon and anesthesiologist communicated clearly and confidently. Here comes the problem!!!!! Now, unfortunately, the complete opposite experience: Elliot from the ER phone line. Rude, dismissive, and completely unhelpful. I asked a straightforward question about possibly speaking with Dr. Shanannan. Instead of listening, he repeated the same irrelevant line about not giving out the doctor's schedule--which I never asked for. It was either a lack of comprehension or a lack of effort--neither is acceptable. When I asked to leave a message, I was told "we don't do that." No explanation. No alternative. Just a dead end. When I confirmed his name, he responded with attitude. When I asked his role, he refused to answer altogether--which raises serious concerns about transparency. Patients shouldn't have to question who they're speaking to when trying to get help. For someone in a frontline role at a hospital, basic communication and professionalism should be the bare minimum. Instead, the interaction felt dismissive and borderline disrespectful. It's disappointing, because one person like this can easily undermine the trust built by an otherwise excellent medical team. The hospital clearly has many outstanding professionals--Elliot is not one of them, clearly Elliot does not have human kindness.

Dr. Redding was very good and very nice. He listened to his lungs. Took CXR then said, "OK Mary! Your Dad has doubled his oxygen requirements today! (Went from 3 Liters to 6 L / Nasal Cannula or NC and still only 91 percent 02 concentration on 6 Liters. CXR looks like he probably has mild pneumonia. Only one place for your Dad to be - ED. So off we went!!! I was experiencing PTSD from ED MD 1 year ago. BUT this time only the " "A" TEAM was in ED! We had VIP service from Dietary Services to MDs. Nobody was more wonderful than Dr Vanna Parikh! She actually LISTENED! She's ABSOLUTELY the polar opposite of Dr. "Stop brining your Dad to ED, he should be on Hospice! How many times do I have to tell you to stop interrupting me?!" Himself! This visit we had two amazing Sound Hospitalists: Dr Barko & Dr Abkian. Dr Gil, Pulmonologist. Plus A- Team members of StJRMC Staff: RNs: ED: Dave G, Cory, Jane - Marie / 3 North: Michelle, Eva and Stephen, ED CT Tech: Jorge T / 3 North CNAs: Catalina, Ruby and Anna. While I was in and out of consciousness before the surgery, I felt safe in the hands of the medical professionals that were working on me. I am so grateful for the work they performed and the care they showed me while admitted. On my second day in the ICU, I received a phone call claiming I need to pay my bill before being discharged, and she asked for my credit card. Thinking it was a scam, I told her if she wants to talk she can come to my room because I am STILL IN THE HOSPITAL. She gave an excuse as to why she didn't come to me in person, and I hung up. A few hours later, a woman rolls a computer into my room and tells me she was the person that had called. I couldn't believe the hospital was charging me while I was still in the ICU, still in poor condition and mentally weak after a traumatizing situation. She told me my insurance claimed I owed $7850 and that it was due before I left the hospital. I trusted the hospital's care, so I stupidly trusted their billing practices as well. I paid the amount, which matched my insurance deductible, but later found out it had never gone through my insurance company and my insurance stated I wasn't supposed to owe the hospital anything. When I asked the hospital for an itemized bill of what the $7850 charge covered, I was told they don't have that. I am now being sent to collections because they sent me an additional bill of $600 that I haven't paid because I had already paid the hospital. I am stuck with other bills out of pocket as well since the original $7850 did not go towards my deductible. Hindsight is 20/20 but I wanted to share this story to ensure others who also haven't experienced emergency care don't fall for this scam as well.

What a genuine, kind, down to earth doctor. He explained everything to me and rushed labs and results for my baby. He took such good care of the baby but also of me emotionally. At discharge he reassured me if I was worried at all he'd be there again the next night and not to hesitate bringing her in. There was a small unit of highly dangerous clients, that were locked away on these unit. That was for everyone's safety. They had a children's unit, they had a UCLA program that did research on a small group of patients. They started many different plans for deescalating clients that were agitated and violent. Their plans went on to better the lives of millions of developmentally disabled individuals. These plans are still used today, to better the lives of the disabled. They also created medication that has gone on to help people with psychosis and is used by many psychiatrist to help their patients. There are no ghosts out there and anyone that posts they are, are misinformed lying. Also there was no murders done by staff. Over the time the hospital was opened, they had many different doctors that did many different therapies, like shock therapy, lobotomies, and other treatments that were unsuccessful and eventually stopped. Shock therapy is still used in some hospitals, to help patients who need it and others are typically given a medication treatment. This is for Camarillo state Hospital and all hospitals, around the world that deals with the mental illness and developmentally disabled people. You're working with people that want to hurt you and many don't mean to attack you, because they typically have a mentally of a 6 year old or their mental illness is schizophrenia, they hear voices or they have multiple personalities and they act out and attack staff, nurses, doctors, patients etc., as an outburst. Most of them have difficulty communicating, because their mentally is at a 6 year old. Has there been staff that hurt clients yes, there also been staff that have had sex with clients. Make and female staff. It happens in all hospitals and clinics around the world. It's not like this hospital or any hospital is an outlier. Every mental institution has had situations, that happen and at time they had what would be considered barbaric programs that aren't even used today. The UCLA, research ward, is the reason we went a different route in treatments.

I was hoping to be able to get into the buildings like others have however, that would have constituted trespassing. However, I was still able to capture some images with my selfie stick! If you have been meaning to come and check out this place I hope you do it soon because the restorations seem to be happening fast and very soon, there will no traces left that tell the history about the place that once stood there.
