While I was in and out of consciousness before the surgery, I felt safe in the hands of the medical professionals that were working on me. I am so grateful for the work they performed and the care they showed me while admitted. On my second day in the ICU, I received a phone call claiming I need to pay my bill before being discharged, and she asked for my credit card. Thinking it was a scam, I told her if she wants to talk she can come to my room because I am STILL IN THE HOSPITAL. She gave an excuse as to why she didn't come to me in person, and I hung up. A few hours later, a woman rolls a computer into my room and tells me she was the person that had called. I couldn't believe the hospital was charging me while I was still in the ICU, still in poor condition and mentally weak after a traumatizing situation. She told me my insurance claimed I owed $7850 and that it was due before I left the hospital. I trusted the hospital's care, so I stupidly trusted their billing practices as well. I paid the amount, which matched my insurance deductible, but later found out it had never gone through my insurance company and my insurance stated I wasn't supposed to owe the hospital anything. When I asked the hospital for an itemized bill of what the $7850 charge covered, I was told they don't have that. I am now being sent to collections because they sent me an additional bill of $600 that I haven't paid because I had already paid the hospital. I am stuck with other bills out of pocket as well since the original $7850 did not go towards my deductible. Hindsight is 20/20 but I wanted to share this story to ensure others who also haven't experienced emergency care don't fall for this scam as well.

Scopolamine only for speciffic limited incident where she has expressly discussed it with the administering anesthesiologist for planed surgery, is the only circumstances when she would allow scopolamine. (Not a patch for 72 hours without her knowledge) The scopolamine coincided with hospital staff suspiciously prempting discussions of my mothers mental decline as if i whould now recognize it,,,wow these people are scum. And the doctor that readily did call to discuss my mom was the Hospice Dr they added to her case. My family would NEVER HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH HOSPICE AT ALL, i told them this when she was in ICU and at previous hospital visit, I diplomatically told! Hat doctor the same. I said to him, its peculiar nobody has assesed and discussed my mothers condition at all or called me with any asessment diagnosis,,yet every day they gave her zero physical therapy, Administred one unauthorized videofluroscopy to watch her swallow which was equal to 155 chest xrays, as well as other xrays and scan events. All against her will even after ICU and life threatening excuse could posibly overide personal rights and freedom. Its her body, no means no (this is america) If i suspected medical assault and abuse and just wanted to prevent it,, id say my suspicion was not unfounded after reviewing only briefly the facts in her so called treatment. I asked a straightforward question about possibly speaking with Dr. Shanannan. Instead of listening, he repeated the same irrelevant line about not giving out the doctor's schedule--which I never asked for. It was either a lack of comprehension or a lack of effort--neither is acceptable. When I asked to leave a message, I was told "we don't do that." No explanation. No alternative. Just a dead end. When I confirmed his name, he responded with attitude. When I asked his role, he refused to answer altogether--which raises serious concerns about transparency. Patients shouldn't have to question who they're speaking to when trying to get help. For someone in a frontline role at a hospital, basic communication and professionalism should be the bare minimum. Instead, the interaction felt dismissive and borderline disrespectful. It's disappointing, because one person like this can easily undermine the trust built by an otherwise excellent medical team. Dr. Redding was very good and very nice. He listened to his lungs. Took CXR then said, "OK Mary! Your Dad has doubled his oxygen requirements today! (Went from 3 Liters to 6 L / Nasal Cannula or NC and still only 91 percent 02 concentration on 6 Liters. CXR looks like he probably has mild pneumonia. Only one place for your Dad to be - ED. So off we went!!! I was experiencing PTSD from ED MD 1 year ago. BUT this time only the " "A" TEAM was in ED! We had VIP service from Dietary Services to MDs. Nobody was more wonderful than Dr Vanna Parikh! She actually LISTENED! She's ABSOLUTELY the polar opposite of Dr. "Stop brining your Dad to ED, he should be on Hospice! How many times do I have to tell you to stop interrupting me?!" Himself! This visit we had two amazing Sound Hospitalists: Dr Barko & Dr Abkian. Dr Gil, Pulmonologist. Plus A- Team members of StJRMC Staff: RNs: ED: Dave G, Cory, Jane - Marie / 3 North: Michelle, Eva and Stephen, ED CT Tech: Jorge T / 3 North CNAs: Catalina, Ruby and Anna. He performed a manual reduction and my X-ray confirmed perfect replacement of my hip prosthetic. He was so reassuring with me, saying, "This isn't my first rodeo, you are in excellent hands". I called 911 specifficly because my dear one (adult blood relative) was experiencing life threatning low body temperature 10° below normal (thermal disregulation), after she was already recieved from the ambulance for more than one hour,,, i myself arrived and inquired as to her body temp on arrival and now, the ER physician and assisting nurse proceded to say simply "we couldnt get a reading", I realized and feared these people dont want to help an 80 year old woman and they did not even administer "First Aid" what is first aid, every boy scout with or without Merit badge knows, blankets, get them warmer. The physician indicated they wanted to do CT scans and xrays, i informed my still conscious mother and she said NO, while still not having been given first aid. Now as her legaly designated P O A (person of authority) i reiterated and gave further instructions as to what are my mothers wishes in this circumstance. They had me removed and treaspassed from the property, then subjected my mother to massive doses of multiple (16) xray treatment sessions, They are a teaching hospital, clearly they forcibly deemed my mother a good project to demonstrate various things to their student physicians,,, After 2 weeks i was able By the grace of God able to get yer away from that horror house,, they dosed her with at least 2 mind altering drugs and tried to imply and alter my families perception of her actual mental capacity to make her own choices. The doctors even perjured theimselves and wrote false narative of events saying that "the son had to be removed and APS was notified and he was arrested" The only abuse that took place was during her being imprisoned against her will at that hospital. I was not arrested at all. Yet they put this falsehood into her medical record. Thats all the short version of what occoured,, we have evidence to support all that i refer to here. Right now just focused on the recovery from being abused and not being treated acording to medical standards or legal ethical standards. My experience with TOSH was smooth, from two weeks out, to attending a prep seminar, to check in, to the facility's personnel who were so good to my family, through pain control, through the good food (yes, it's true!), to the nursing care. Dr. Bawa picks his team, right down to the anesthesiologists and hospitalist, and you can tell that it's a well-oiled machine.

Following a surgery at this surgery center, I ended up back in the hospital for 4 days…read more Prior to my surgery, I alerted the OR staff of my severe reaction to adhesive (where they added it was also noted on my chart.) I was also contacted by someone from admitting about a week prior where I explained my severe reaction. 2 days after my surgery and while still admitted to the TO Surgical Hospital, I began to feel the signs of a reaction to adhesive. I had been through it before.... I was preparing to be discharged the next day so I asked my nurse to check the bandaging. Sure enough, someone had laid down a strip of Tegaderm that was used over my incision at the end of my surgery. No gory details will be posted, but the bandaging had to be peeled off in strips (my reaction had already begun) where the nurse told me that I was indeed going through what looked like the beginning of an infection. I was still released. When I arrived at home, the reaction quickly turned to an infection that spread rapidly. I contacted my surgeon that night who prescribed heavy antibiotics. Two days later I was hospitalized at Los Robles with such a severe infection, that I looked like a burn patient. It wasn't until an Infectious Disease Control doctor was brought in that it was finally halted in its' tracks. The TO Surgical Hospital applauds itself on never having a single patient with an infection. So I guess that this means they immediately discharge the patients who end up with an infection caused by their own staff? I do not blame my surgeon....he used what is handed to him from the tray in front of him. I never heard back from the TO Surgical Hospital staff. No one followed up with me to find out how I was doing. They are shown to be one of the leading centers in the U.S., but this was a mistake that should have never happened. I did my due diligence by speaking to the head OR nurse; the anesthesiologist; and the nurse that admitted me about my allergy and it was ignored. I suffered for weeks because of it and it left behind scars. The toughest part of this is knowing that they sent me home with an active infection caused by their staff. This way they could still state that they do not have any patients with an infection. At the very least, I should have been sent to their sister hospital which is Los Robles before it became as bad as it did. I gave them plenty of time to reach out to me (4 months) and it is time to warn any future patients that this may happen.
