You would think that a state so deeply rooted in farming and community would have more people coming together to support healthy local food from local growers. It's simple, you pay a subscription fee of a few hundred dollars in the spring in exchange for weekly summer produce harvested fresh all summer long. For those interested there are a few CSA options in the area however Common Ground Garden is the best. Run by the Sisters and students at St. Benedict Monastery/University they not only grow amazing fruits, flowers, vegetables and herbs but they also partner with others to offer local bread, eggs, and meats. The quality and quantity of each week's share cannot be beat, the staff is heavenly, and they even offer periodic events and classes for members. If you are willing to learn to cook and eat locally and seasonally there is no better value than Common Ground Garden.

And these are not wimpy tacos. These are generous sized tacos, generous sides and a generous salsa bar. There is minor confusion when you walk in because the restaurant and grocery store occupy the same space. You order at the food counter but you don't pay until AFTER you finish the meal. Seating is around the corner, tucked away. Also note these tacos take time. It's not the order and you get your meal right away. Expect to sit around 10 minutes or so before your food arrives but it's worth it because it's so good and filling. There is usually some coupon or deal going on each week. You can't beat the prices are so SO affordable for a farmers market. I'm always sad when it's over for the season. They have kids activities the first Saturday of the month and give away something free to the kids. There is usually live music and at least 10 vendors selling everything from meat and eggs, to bread, jams, honey and popcorn to fresh veggies. Highly recommend checking this out if you're in the area on a Saturday morning!
