What a beautiful hospital and campus! This is kind of an odd statement considering that I came here during the twilight hours and to the ER, no less. St. Joseph's Hospital - North is located just a bit north of Tampa by Cheval and Lutz, respectively. The hospital is situated at the critical crossroad of Dale Mabry and the 589 Veterans Expressway-Suncoast Parkway/568 off-shoot. This makes it easily accessible from various areas, whilst being fairly free of the Tampa Bay congestion. Parking here is fairly simple, as the lot is rather vast, while the signs make navigating the campus rather intuitive. When it comes to security, the team does a rather spectacular job to ensure that safety and protection of their patients and employees. With both the sheriff departments and security contractors on site, there is very little to worry about. I was directed to self-admit to St. Joseph's Hospital - North after incurring an injury during a work trip. After returning to Tampa, I was able to drive myself to this location with ease. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As I entered the ER, I was screened by the security and welcomed by the friendly staff of the ER.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The ER area and department was very clean and well maintained. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The process of getting admitted was rather smooth, and it wasn't long before a nurse came to take my vitals and enter me into the triage process.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I wasn't dying, so I understand the length of time it took before a doctor came to address my injuries. When a doctor did come, she was extremely pleasant and thorough. She provided a preliminary diagnosis and ordered some imaging. The technician was also an expert in her craft, which made the overall experience at the hospital worthy of mention. My experience with the Cardiology Department at St. Joseph's Hospital-North on Friday, June 3rd, was an absolute failure in patient Care, clinical and basic professionalism. I was admitted through the emergency department presenting with acute cardiac symptoms--including severe palpitations and a suspected arrhythmia ("skipping beats") that I could feel when checking my pulse. I was told an overnight admission was needed so a "CARDIOLOGIST COULD EVALUATE ME". I was subjected to 24 hours of diagnostic testing, without ever receiving actual specialist care. Instead: *Total Absence of a Cardiologist: Despite being admitted specifically for specialist evaluation, a cardiologist never saw me. [[HIGHLIGHT]]A Physician Assistant (PA) claimed remote telemetry showed nothing. When I told her that during my stay I have had felt the symptoms she said that she was going to check and "NEVER CAME BACK.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] *A physician HOSPITALIST later entered my room and claimed my EKG was normal. Anyone with basic medical knowledge knows a static EKG only captures a 30-second snapshot, if during those 30 minutes the symptoms do not occur it doesn't show on the EKG, that is why the 24 hrs. monitoring almost mandatory. This doctor didn't even know I was connected to telemetry monitor, (he asked "ME" if i new the results). [[HIGHLIGHT]]I told him that I felt severe symptoms while actively connected to the monitor, (I even gave him the time in which I felt the symptom) he said he would look into it, walked out and never came back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] *So after 24 hrs in the hospital connected to a monitor I was discharged without a definitive diagnosis, without a review of my telemetry results, and without the opportunity to ask questions or receive reassurance. My discharge papers listed a diagnosis of Angina Pectoris--a serious heart condition requiring immediate medication. Yet, the hospital failed to provide any prescriptions or counseling for it. If this diagnosis was legitimate, they violated the minimum standard of care by releasing me without medication. If it was not, it represents fraudulent medical documentation. *My blood work revealed a critical enzyme value that was double the maximum reference range. The medical team completely ignore this and failed to disclose this abnormality or advise me on outpatient follow-up. So, I spent 24 hours confined to a hospital bed, hooked up to a monitor, and subjected to X-rays, blood panels, and an echocardiogram, only to leave with ZERO clinical clarity in total contradiction with what the president of the hospital tells you in a message on the TV. It is entirely evident that St. Joseph's Hospital-North failed entirely in diagnosing a symptomatic patient. In total I saw a PA and a Hospitalist so where was the cardiologist that they say was necessary for my problem? I am formally reporting my case to Humana, my insurance carrier for an immediate investigation into their billing and medical practices because to me it looked like a standard procedure to squeeze the most amount money out of Medicare. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Just in case you ask, I went to that hospital because my cardiologist works for the same corporation, so I thought I was going to be in good hands.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Next time even with a heart attack I prefer to travel 20 more minutes to go to another hospital in the area which IT IS a real treatment hospital. St. Joseph's Hospital North ER - 04 February 2026 I am writing this review not only as a recent patient, but as a retired U.S. Army Special Forces Medic and former nationally registered paramedic. I have spent a lifetime in emergency medicine. The care I received in this emergency department was, without question, the worst I have personally experienced or witnessed in my professional career. On Wednesday, February 4, 2026, my wife brought me to the ER at St. Joseph's Hospital North in Lutz after I developed severe shortness of breath during a return flight from Wyoming. I had contracted influenza during travel, and by the time we landed, I was experiencing significant respiratory distress, fever, chills, and rigors. We arrived around 5:45 PM. There were only two other patients in the ER at that time, neither appearing to be in acute distress. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Check-in was disorganized, as staff were unable to locate my long-standing records despite years of prior care at this facility.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Over the next hour, the ER filled with additional patients, yet I observed multiple individuals who arrived after me being triaged ahead of me, despite my visible respiratory compromise. As someone trained in emergency triage, this was difficult to understand. I was eventually sent for a chest X-ray and asked to undress in a cold room while actively shaking with fever and chills. There was no effort to ensure patient comfort during the process. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After nearly two hours, I was placed in a treatment room. I waited more than 30 minutes before a nurse briefly entered, did not clearly identify herself or her role, took vitals, drew blood without explanation, and left stating the physician would be in shortly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The room was extremely cold. Despite obvious rigors, no blanket was provided. My wife had to remove her own jacket to place over me. A request to the nurses' station for blankets went unanswered for an extended period. When the physician finally arrived, I was asked to repeat my history. A minimal exam was performed. After he left, I could clearly hear loud, social, and unprofessional behavior from the nurses' station area. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Following a shift change, a second nurse entered. After another request for blankets, one was eventually brought -- and handed to my wife without instruction or courtesy. There was no communication about the plan of care, anticipated timeline, or findings.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After approximately six hours in the ER, I was diagnosed with Influenza A and discharged with prescriptions for Tamiflu, benzonatate, and albuterol. Discharge was abrupt. IV removal was rushed. EKG leads and monitoring equipment were partially left for us to remove ourselves. No discharge education was provided beyond stating prescriptions would be called in. There was no closing interaction such as, "We hope you feel better." We left shortly after midnight and had to obtain a hotel due to the late hour and my condition. In more than three decades in emergency medicine, I have never experienced such a lack of empathy, communication, professionalism, and basic patient comfort. Emergency departments are busy environments -- I understand that better than most -- but patient dignity and compassion should never be optional. I've always liked the St Joseph's Hospital group. This particularly hospital is five .minutes away from me and very convenient I had the opportunity to see how their ER worked, and the experience was very smooth. There is pretty ample parking around the hospital, and we were able to park right by the ER. They have security at the entrance to search for weapons, and then the front desk is right there. They ask a few questions and get your ID and medical insurance info, and put you I to triage quickly. Today, the ER was packed, but apparently, I was critical, and I got bumped to the front of the line. They asked questions, did vitals, and quickly lined up resources. Luckily, I only had to stay overnight, but everyone was professional and nice, from the doctors all the way to the cleaning lady. I was pretty impressed. If I had to come back here, I would. I went into St. Joe's N. hospital a week ago with two bad infections that knocked me out all day Friday and I got better via being on Vanco/cefepime until I was released Tuesday at 4pm. I don't remember much of Friday including my name as I was questioned by the EMS. I've had 28 surgeries ALL in the Tamoa area since 2002 so, I know hospitals well. Real quick Pros/Cons of SJN. Cons: *Food Below avg. You can order via the T.V. Like most hospitals now so, if something is good you can reorder it. Get the ROOM meal and you wo t eat much. *[[HIGHLIGHT]]Holiday weekend so staffing was low and dome were grumpy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] *[[HIGHLIGHT]]I was in the level below ICU at 1st and did my call button and it took over 20 minutes to answer. I told the nurse that and I got the " It's Shift Change now" at 7:50pm. I hate when they use that[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. * The Dr.'s were all over on Rds. One came at 10am on Saturday and then 2:30 on Sunday and several seemed on "let me get to the Memorial Day Party" time clock. * I'm paralyzed and the Bed was just A W F ULL!!! Pros: * Despite the holiday they did have MANY Hard working and dedicated employees pulling their 12+ hour shifts. The first day+ in the level just below ICU I don't remember much but, [[HIGHLIGHT]]I went to the 5th floor the last 3+ days and I had a Nurse named Vee who was a very nice lady and very professional as was a Nurse named Tina.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had the same Tech on 3 shifts named Oliver who was very helpful and a nice young man.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I got my blood drawn or poked for blood sugar and those went smoothly 95% of the time. I got some food that wasn't to bad so I reordered it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When they found out the strain of infection I had the Dr. actually apologized for the wait. That is rare these days[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Overall I'd say it's an Byram's hospital and since it is smaller than TGH it S.J.Main expect what I just wrote. This hospital is convenient for us because we can literally walk there from our home. Hubs needed to go to the ER so we made the trip. This ER was overly packed. Even the security guard said he's never seen it so busy. But we have no other choice but to check in. Given the severity of his health issues we didn't wait long before taken back. The nurse at the front and all nursing staff were extremely friendly and cared about the patients. Taken to an ER room and bed was quick, chest scan quick, diagnosis of needing a transfusion quick. My concern comes from the lack of clearly explaining situations to family and loved ones that are concerned in this moment. We hear that our loved one needs something urgently and it's not taken on our scale of urgent which leaves us in a situation of loss and not knowing what to do but wait and wait and wait on answers and staff. We get looks from staff when we ask repeatedly the same questions because we aren't getting the answers or that urgent transfusion hasn't come yet and it's been 5 hours!! Through my 60+ years, I've only visited hospitals via the front doors - and while no one Wants to go to the hospital, much less be rushed by ambulance to an ER for an emergency Stent to the Heart, I must say, being totally aware of my surroundings during the entire event, and only having any reference from med type tv shows, how pleased I was starting with the Hillsborough Fire Rescue as they assisted & transported me. Then, once within St Joseph's Hospital North's ER, again, the level of service, and explanation as I was processed and prepped for my emergency surgery. The Doctors, my cardiologist Dr. Christopher J. Pastore & the nurses were all fantastic as surgery proceeded all while I was awake - yea awake for a heart procedure. Ok, done and up to the ICU, I couldn't be any more grateful to my two nurses (12hr shifts for continuity of care) that helped make me feel safe & my wife as comfortable as possible. Over the next few days I'd rest, have a 2nd stent placed, continue to be monitored, and upon the ok of my cardiologist, released. As I said, in all my years I've never been a patient, but for a first time, I couldn't have been any luckier or more fortunate that I found my way to St. Joseph's Hospital North. I attempted to write this on their website but was allowed only a few lines. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called the phone number on their website and left a message. I did receive a call back but was unable to take the call. When I called back, I again left a message.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I accompanied my husband who was having severe abdominal pain and severe distention to the ER. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Our first interaction was with security, 2 older men. one was sitting in a chair the other standing. There was not so much as a hint of a smile or a greeting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Knowing the routine, my husband put his wallet into the tray. Using an enlarged chop stick my husband was motioned in through the scanner. I placed my bag into a tray. The security guard poked around then motioned me to go through the scanner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]At the registration desk we were greated by an older woman with a horrendous scowl on her face. I do have names which I would have gladly share with a hospital representative. she never once cracked a hint of a smile. she was abrupt and rude[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Finally called into triage by a ? assistant, who also never smiled just scowled.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We met the triage nurse. He was pleasant and professional. Took information and expressed concern and compassion. Then a young woman came in and said she was going to insert an IV and draw blood. I asked her name as her id badge was conveniently turned over so her name couldn't be seen. She took my husband's arm and attempted to start an IV. After digging around she gave up and went to the other arm. She grabbed his arm and tried to twist it around. My husband told her he could not rotate his arms or flex his elbows anymore do to injuries acquired in the USMC. No matter she continued to try to rotate and flex his elbow stopping only when I asked if she didn't hear what my husband had said. [[HIGHLIGHT]]She finally inserted the IV, drew blood and said," go sit back outside. They'll call you. No smile, no anything.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When we were called. The same scowling, seemingly angry ? assistant had my husband sit in a wheelchair and wheeled him to a room. An RN came in, badge conveniently turned, asked questions and said the doctor would be in shortly. I asked him his name. He told me. The doctors in the ER and the hospitalist were wonderful. They were compassionate and explained the treatment plan and emcouraging questions. The RN was thorough, skilled and professional. However, again, a smile would have been welcomed. I would like to go back to the individual who started my husband's IV. OSHA has ruled that gloves be worn when dealing with patients, doing blood draws, starting IV's etc. They say nowhere that it is ok to rip off a finger on a glove to assist in feeling for a vein. I as an RN certified by NITA and the ONS, I know this is a serious, reportable offense and both the hospital and individual would be subject to large fines. When my husband was brought to his room, it was like entering a different universe. Everyone from the medical assistant techs, housekeeping, and the RN's were wonderful. They were kind, efficient and empathetic. They made a point of showing badges properly, saying their name and asking if my husband was having pain, etc. The hospitalist and surgical consultant were wonderful. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Patient care is more than just expediting patients. I realize working in a busy ER is demanding, stressful work. But, it takes not time to show a little caring.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If anyone from St Joseph's North is interested in names, I have them . [[HIGHLIGHT]]I would also like to say the first impression of your hospital is often made by YOUR staff. Your staff in the ER needs lessons in how to treat and deal with patients and their families.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The Humane Society of Tampa Hospital and Clinic treats the families and animals with more kindness and empathy than you ER. read more

My 70yr old mother was incredibly ill with high blood pressure and body temperature. She came in needing immediate help but we were very patient. After we waited almost FIVE HOURS out in the waiting room, with no concern for her getting worse and then calling over a handful of others that arrived long after her, before her. After asking the front desk attendants for some help as she is not well and getting much worse(you can visibly see her sickness.) They gave no response whatsoever, as if there wasn't a soul present within them. My mother then tells them she is going to have to leave at this point to get treatment somehow and they responded with "You're leaving? Ok just sign this before you leave." Nothing more, nothing less. This is also to say past experiences have been well received and they normally do an excellent job. This is why my Mother normally chooses to drive 35mins to come to this hospital verses 10mins for closer ones. read more

The ER in St Joseph north is there worst I have ever been. The waiting time is incredibly long! I went today for an allergic reaction to antibiotics m. My urologist told me to go to the ER because I could potentially have anaphylaxis. I was there for 4 hours and would still be there if I had not decided to leave. There were only about 8 patients ahead of me when I got there and Every one of those 8 people was seen except me. I asked why i have not been called and the explanation was that other people needed attention first. I said ok, I understand but then can you at least tell me how much longer I will have to wait? Her answer was that she didn't know, it could be another four hours or more. So I left. Mind you that my neck and thighs were on fire because of the itching and pain. I felt like crying because I was feeling so itchy, uncomfortable, in pain and thought I would have to endure this for more days. Bottom line is Do not go to this ER unless you are dying or close to it. From there I went to an urgent care in Dale Mabry, they saw me rather quickly, gave me a shot of steroids for the rash and prescribed another set of antibiotics and steroids. read more

This was the worst hospital experience of our lives. My husband was in for a 3 day stay. The radiologist wrote that he had radioactive seeds in his prostate, known cancer and metastatic cancer because he had an elevated PSA from years prior due to prostatitis and recent bone scan because of an old bone lesion. I am a registered nurse and had to fight to get my husband's report amended. Most everyone there was indignant we were asking to amend major statements that were not true. Night nursing staff was good but that was the only redeeming quality. Nobody to contact with a patient complaint and nobody calls you back. It is my closest facility but we will never go back. The whole experience was very emotionally upsetting! Imagine a medical professional assuming you have cancer and other staff seem to imply this is no big deal when this is permanently in your medical record! Awful! read more

ER EXPERIENCE: PROS: It was empty at 5pm, so I was taken back to an ER Room rather quickly. The Transport Staff were the nicest peeps in the place. Always. CONS: No medical staff came to my ER aid until some rolling Admissions person came to fill out financial forms (she took her time, too). My ER Nurse acted like a new grad. I warned him that I was a difficult IV-stick, but he still hit/missed 4 times putting an IV in - and he wouldn't ask for help. He finally went to find an ultrasound after bruising me 4 times. Took over an hour before I got IVF (for severe dehydration). My ER Nurse brought me a bedside commode -- and I actually had to ask him to close the door so I could use it. He had it flung wide open and didn't care about my privacy. (little things like this are important, pal.) ER MD discharged me after 8pm on a Sunday (7/3/22) without filling the RX she gave me for BP med. They refused to fill a 1-week prescription from the hospital pharmacy (too busy), only to discover that my pharmacy was closed and the only 24 hr Walgreens is over an hour away (Sun City Center). Walgreens pharmacy was also closed on July 4th Holiday, so had to pay RETAIL price out-of-pocket at WalMart Pharmacy. If I didn't know better, I'd swear that they want to discharge you sicker than you arrive .... just for the repeat ER Visit days later. This was my 4th Visit to this ER since they opened (over 10 years ago). In the future, I'll travel further to Advent....cause this relatively-new Hospital sucks. Baycare sucks. Crap like this happens from the "management" level and trickles down to the help. read more

Its never a good day when you have to go to the ER, but should you have to go, and you're in the area, I recommend St. Joe's North. Granted, I came in on a Tuesday evening around 7, I was pretty much the only person in the waiting room. Once I sat down, I was called back almost immediately. From Triage, everything was smooth, except the one nurse who was efficient if not friendly, and didn't give me her name, everyone else was friendly, warm and caring. Much nicer than most of the other hospitals I've been too. Usually ER's are harried and horrid places, where the Nursing staff is running 4 ways to Sunday and don't have time to really think about what they're doing. These Nurses, Especially Nate, the RN and Former Marine who had my room were caring and friendly. I liked them all. After a urine test, a blood draw, and a bag of fluids, I was seen by the doctor and her consensus was the same as Mine was, my previous medication wasn't working and while I didn't have a full blown kidney infection yet, it was working that way. So new RX, and I was out the door in less than 3 hours. All in all a fairly nice experience. read more

Came for an injury my son had at school, the process was so quick, but after the x ray we waited and waited and waited. Seemed like they only cared to bill my insurance company for the time we spent just waiting. They said they would bring him Motrin for the pain but never did. Why can't they just come back and tell us whether he has a broken finger or not ? We saw the nurse do the x ray and then left us to wait. This room could be used for a real emergency but instead all they care about is billing us more money for the wait !!! read more

Went today to the ER with a bad kidney stone attack. Waited 4 hours and was never seen, never given any pain medicine, never given an IV. Was told I wasn't allowed to drink water. I had been throwing up all day and was dehydrated when I arrived. The triage nurse was rude and apparently only wrote "stomach ache" as the diagnosis, even though I told her it was a kidney stone attack. I recently had a CT scan and so I know it is kidney stones, not just guessing. Anyone who has had kidney stones knows it's a lot more than a stomach ache. The nurse who took blood samples was extremely rude, suggesting I should have called my primary care doctor instead of coming to the ER and rudely asking if I didn't have anything better to do than to come to the ER today. Yeah lady, I had a lot of things better to do but I was extremely ill and needed some help. These people are angry at life and do not care about their patients. I will never return to this facility. You can't call it healthcare because no one at St Joes North cares about the patients. Went in with chest pain. Given an ekg and told to return to the lobby, they will review it and get back to me. Then I waited nearly 4 hours in the lobby. The pain went away and most of the people that were waiting when I got there were still waiting. I figured if the ekg was abnormal they would have come to get me, so I left. This was on a Saturday night. Monday morning, about 34 hours later, the ER doctor called my cell phone, asking where I was, because I had an abnormal ekg. She told me to return immediately to the emergency room. I was 200+ miles away, so on her advice I went to another emergency room. They kept me all day, did bloodwork and 2 more ekg's. They then told me that there was nothing wrong, something must have been mistaken. I went home and I am fine. I called trying to tell an administrator about all this and I kept calling until 3 weeks later someone called me back and said they would review this. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE !! read more

My father drove me to St. Joseph's Hospital North because I was having an asthma attack and I could not catch my breath. The staff put me in a hospital room and the doctor wanted to do a breathing treatment. The rooms are very close together with patients, something I noticed right away with COVID in mind. There was a patient straight across from me-- They moved her and put me in that same room WITHOUT SANITIZING ANYTHING. And that lady with the papers? (I read someone else's review about her.. Similar to my nightmare.) She walked through the door with her electronic signature pad and said "You need to sign these before we can give you any treatment." I told her I wasn't signing something that I have no idea what about. So, she actually THROWS A COPY OF THE PATIENT AGREEMENT AND CONSENT FORMS AT ME. I told her she doesn't need to be rude and that I needed time with read them. She left and I never saw her again. Probably in the room next to me pulling the cord on an innocent patient. I never signed the forms, and I unplugged the "ekg" equipment wires from my chest-- and I WALKED OUT. St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, Florida is filled with EVIL staff who do not care about your well being. read more

Don't go to this ER. I hurt my knee very badly and came in an ambulance. I didn't even see a doctor. Just a PA. She was VERY nice, however; they did nothing to help me. X-rays showed no breaks/fractures, however; they don't do MRI's at this hospital to find out what is causing my pain!!! They only do MRI's for neurological issues!!!They said I have to try to get in to an orthopedist!!! I can't move my leg!!! I'm being discharged and I can't move my leg. The worst part is the uncaring nurse. The main nurse assigned to me was AWFUL. SO uncaring and heartless. She should rethink her career choice. read more

This place has become awful. I have heard horror stories and personally have seen how they mistreat patients in need and misdiagnose.Stay away if you have an emergency! They do not care about their patients well being! There are other hospitals like Advent or Memorial that I would go to before ever stepping foot in there! read more

I went to the Emergency Room which was supposed to be paid for by Worker's Compensation. One of the people (a check-in clerk) there gave me a piece of paper that stated if the paper was not received within the next 72 hours at the above address, then I would be responsible for the Emergency Room Services. I mailed the letter out that evening, when I finally got home. I got a return form the USPS stating " RETURN TO SENDER" "NOT DELIVERABLE AS ADDRESSED" "UNABLE TO FORWARD" I called the phone number listed on the letter, but it was out of service. I attempted to go on-line and get another address. I called the phone number listed on-line, but it was out of service, as well. I also looked up the phone numbers on-line and they were either out of service as well or the recording said the office was closed. I only got to see the doctor for a very short time, but I was able to get his name, Dr. Patel. The nurses left me in the room for hours. I didn't get home until almost 8:00 at night. I left my apartment before noon. read more

After being told nothing was wrong with me at a walk in clinic and then having my symptoms worsen, I was relieved going into the ER and actually getting treatment from people who seemed to care! Staff was great and they really tried to help my symptoms be more bearable. Proved enough to tell me exactly what was wrong and sent me home feeling better and with medication for later. Like I said SUPER kind staff, knowledgeable doctor comfortable rooms and fast wait time. Nothing more I can say but a good experience. read more

I got admitted with covid, pneumonia And a heart condition. The technical assistants are abusive . The food never comes. I got one meal in A-day and 1 meal another day. The technical assistants talk about you like you are a piece of garbage , they don't care. Do not go here or send anyone you love here.. It is a horror story story. It's taking me a minute to write this review for the fact that I lost my dad. He went into St Joe's on July 24th not feeling well. My Dad was already battling leukemia. He was just getting more sick, and having more issues than usual. So he (without telling anyone) drove himself here. He passed away a week later on August 1st. The nurses and the doctors that took care of him that week he was there were the absolute best nurses and doctors I've seen in a very long time. Even though it was very trying, and a hard time for my family and I, the staff at St Joe's North we're the perfect people to help us get through all the tough times that we had. I cannot say enough good things about what was taking place while my dad was being cared for. They absolutely made you feel like they were taking care of one of their own family members. Nothing was slipped by, nothing was overlooked. They tried everything and did everything humanly possible. It was just my Dad's time. read more

Nothing I told the nurse or doctor was taken seriously. All they did was look at the back of my throat and shove a Q-Tip swab up my nose. I waited in the er for approximately two to three hours. The nurse and doctor were very unprofessional instead of coming into my and closing the door to tell me my results the doors were open and they were in the doorway where others could here my business. When I was finally told that my COVID test came back positive they told it to me like as if I just found out that I was pregnant and was being congratulated on it. I personally don't believe that I have COVID especially since the only symptoms that I came in with was a cough that was causing me to urinate every time that I coughed and a bit of a burning sensation in my throat that I felt was related to my acid reflex and the coughing and urinating I felt could've been associated to bronchitis that I was diagnosed with back in 2019. This is my second time coming to this hospital and I must say my first experience was great but this time was horrible and completely unprofessional. I'm not sure that I want services from St. Joseph's anymore. I recently tried giving them another chance and again I was disappointed with my experience. This time I came in due to excruciating pain in my lower pelvic area. Not only did they not take it seriously I felt like I was dealing with people who lacked common sense and the ability to do their job. I sat in the lobby area waiting for approximately a hour and then decided to get up and leave. The triage nurse couldn't seem to comprehend what I was saying as if I was speaking another language. As I continued to experience pain no one tried to help me in any way shape or form. I eventually went to another hospital and got seen right away and was diagnosed with a fibroid that is 10.3 cm and am currently getting treatment no thanks to St. Joseph's Hospital read more

I have covid. An urgent clinic sent me to the ER because of the severity of my symptoms. I waited 5 hours to leave and go home because I couldn't stay awake any longer. There was a poor woman screaming, crying and throwing up every 5 minutes the entire FIVE hours I was there. No one tended to her. They stuffed all of the Covid patients in this little bitty stuffy room. The triage nurse I had was awful. The entire time no one was checked on, or even offered a simple cup of water. I had a fever of 101.4 and I'm sure I wasn't the only one in that disgusting little room that had a fever and was extremely dehydrated. Shameful. Just shameful. read more

I'm a terminal cancer patient. I've been hospitalized for last 5 months. Naples Community Hospital, Tampa General Hospital, Encompass North snd now St. Josephs North. The food here is very good. I've been on regular diet and renal. Nursing staff is top notch Tampa General, they saved my life but too big and a mess Nursing staff tried. This used to be a good emergency room if you needed one, but my recent experience was an absolute joke! I do not feel the Staff or the Doctor cared nor did they seem to want to care for me at all. The bad part about this is they WERE NOT BUSY.. just lazy and uncaring. During a approx. 5 hour visit, they did not even offer me a cup of water.. mentioning that because it is so basic! The Doctor spent a few hours ignoring me before even stepping in to check on me.. this was after explaining I had issues that could have been severe/life threatening. I guess the basic nurse was the one deciding if I was potentially dying.. by looking at me. The nurse decided they needed blood and urine, and that the Dr. would see what my pain was about after that. So hours later, the Doctor came in and seemed hesitant to even examine me (this is an ER room!). Needless to say I am well groomed and taken care of (lol). I am also vaccinated and had a mask on. I've never seen a Dr. so scared to examine someone before! WOW is all I could think. After a quick examination, she ordered a CT scan. After the CT scan, it took hours for anyone to come in and make contact with me or inform me what was going on.. even though they said the work would be done in about an hour, it took over 2 just to get someone to even pop their head in to say anything. The end results that were handed to me were basic and uninformative.. no range values on the blood/urine, no explanation about my problems, just a short, basic and crappy write up about what had happened. One thing to add, my bill was not short and crappy... it was ridiculous given the treatment and attention received. If you indeed have a serious concern, my advise would be to pass this hospital if you can make it to another! It's gone downhill in the past several years, no doubt. read more

Although it's a brand new fancy hospital it has some drawbacks on the physical plant and speed of service. Nurses are great and helpful but waiting until 6:15 for a 3:00 surgery is ridiculous since it wasn't the surgeon who was delayed. Waited and hour for a wheelchair to get discharged. Also who ever thought of placing sunshades on the north side of a building is stupid. Just look at all the mold growing on the sunshades just outside the patient room window! Stupid architects are probably doing the same to the addition. Not exactly a healing view! Place has good food though and of course good doctors. read more

I dont think their are enough words to describe the hurt in my heart that Dr. Jackson and St. Josephs Van Dyke have caused my family. My father was diagnosed with Stage 4 Small Cell carcinoma lung cancer July of 2020. From that point on it was the Worst time of my life. My father was constantly in and out of the hospital which was heartbreaking to me. My father went from 260 pounds to 150 at time of his death and all the excuses in the world were given to not help him. He got to this hospital 1 days before Easter and it was the worst mistake ever. He had breathing issues! The 1st Nurse and Doctor that had encountered were extremely unhelpful and narsisistic. Dr. Jackson was a joke who was extremely unknowledgeable and unwilling to help. They wanted my father to die in this hospital, so I said no I am not going to let you do that. I attempted to get my father transported to Moffit cancer center emergency room and we were denied by the Patient Co-ordinator that he would never make it to the hospital due to oxygen concerns much less home. My dad got up an walked out and for 4 days he struggled to breathe due to the negligence of this horrible hospital. After days of trying to get my dad transported I tried one last thing to get into contact with a Patient Advocate , this was a failed mission as she could care less if this worked or not even told me that "She got other patients to deal with, and that she did not have time for this" then hung up. I had never had to deal with this from St. Josephs van dyke but boy would this be the last. I was told by another advocate that the transfer to Moffit would be denied due to concerns with oxygen but that was a lie too. I hate this hospital and Baycare and I will never bring anyone here again, I will drive to another one to avoid Bay care and ST. Josephs van dyke. You all made the last 3 weeks of my fathers life hell, and will never understand the hate I have in my heart for you all. Not even worth 1 star due to how terrible you are. I don't make a habit out of reviewing hospitals, but St. Joseph's North is a world-class facility that deserves a lot of credit for the effort which went into designing this spectacular healthcare operation. St. Joseph's North is a part of the BayCare Health System which is a common ownership and management firm, responsible for St. Anthony's in St. Petersburg, the Morton Plant hospitals in Pinellas County, and the St. Joseph's hospital chain in Hillsborough County. St. Joseph's North sits in northern Hillsborough County near the intersection of N. Dale Mabry Highway and Van Dyke Road in Lutz. The hospital opened to the community in February 2010, so they're not quite 2 years old. They very proudly announce that they are an all-digital, state-of-the-art facility to make patients and visitors as comfortable as possible during their hospital experience. According to the brochure I was handed when I checked in this morning, "Our patient care team designed the facility so technology and advanced medical care blend harmoniously. Calming, cool tones on the walls, sophisticated artwork, bamboo floors, and warm lighting, all create a healing, comfortable atmosphere for our patients." This three-story hospital looks like a 5-star high-end hotel, and I had to constantly remind myself that I was at a full-service community hospital in order to have some routine medical tests. Honestly, the registration desk looks like what you would expect at the Ritz Carlton. The staff carries tablets and has roll-around carts with computerized access to your electronic medical records, real-time access to patient results, radiologic images and transcribed reports, and electronic registration / admitting with biometric palm scanning. This place is a heaven for a serious geek! If you should happen to live on the northern end of Hillsborough and find yourself in need of medical services (either hospital emergency care, outpatient procedures, or visiting a doctor in their adjacent medical offices) then I highly recommend that you take a look at St. Joseph's North. read more
