I went on a Food x Beer crawl in Aurora with my friends and one of the better spots to enjoy the pair would be at St. Louis Bar & Grill, located at Bayview / Hollandview :) The best days to go IMO would probably be Tuesdays for 1/2 price wings, and Thursdays for 1/2 price appetizers! We were there last night Thursday ^^ Very happy to see that even poutines were 1/2 priced too and the portion was huge (great value!) We also ordered 'Devil' sized beer (I don't remember the exact name... but it is like super sizing your beer lol). Apparently, the price was even better than getting a pitcher ;) And our group of 4 shared the following: Chicken noodle soup - hearty soup with chunks of ingredients - not part of 1/2 priced apps Riblets - delicious, came out pipping hot - comes with bbq sauce - absolutely not dry at all Cauliflower bites - lightly battered - comes with a sweet chili sauce - ordered it bc we must eat our veggies lol Calamari - I enjoyed this the most :) - you usually can't go wrong with calamari lol Pulled pork poutine - St. Louis's fries are always to die for :) - very tasty with chucks of cheese curds. - pulled pork was a bit too spicy this time around Bacon wrapped Mac n' Cheese balls - pairs well with my beer ;) - comes in 2 skewers of 3s I would definitely come back again. Big fail on their online ordering. What's the point of ordering and paying ahead only to have them miss it completely? They didn't even offer anything to compensate. After double-checking that we didn't send the order wrong (also a bit insulting), we got stuck waiting another 20 minutes. Food is always good here! I find the service is normally good, unless you catch them on a really busy night! Only issue I have had is, I'm female I go in with my boyfriend mostly. A few girls I have notice pay more attention to tables with old men/just men.. Why I think is because they think if they pay attention to the drooling males. Been here twice.. service sucks.. both times.. they made eye contact with me as I walked in.. and then that it for the next 10 minutes... Both times I was the first to arrive among my group.. and both times I just sat myself down at a table.. even tho it says please wait to be seated.. Service is slow, the most recent time I was there, took me almost 15 minutes to get my first sip of beer.. mostly because they weren't attentive, I had to chase down a waitress, she had to find my waitress.. and the bartender had to pour it... We decided to go out for wings . Went to bayview aurora location . Went in sat down place wasn't busy with 4 servers on staff . Waited 15 minutes severs walked by us as if we were not even there. Didn't even ask us if we wanted a drink .My wife looked at me i said looks like they don't want our money . We Got up and left . Excellent wings, fries and dipping sauce. This chain of restaurants got it's start with one store in North Toronto, and the product today is still very true to the original, and as far as I can tell, consistent throughout the system ..Probably the best fries, from frozen, that you will get anywhere, provided they are cooked right, oil temp and cooking time is critical to a good finished product.. While never having tried anything other than the suicide wings, I have it from a trusted dining associate that the Cobb Salad, the one so smothered with meat and cheese that you can barely see the lettuce, is excellent, although never enough dressing. Another partner in crime swears by the Caesar salad, I'm sure it's good, as in 'not bad' , but I'm going to take a pass, from what I can see there is never enough salad.. I still believe that a few carrot and celery sticks are an essential component to a good order of wings, and hopefully I don't have to tell you why. I guess if they gave you the free veggies, you wouldn't order a salad......Man, it's a real bummer when someone with an MBA messes up what was a perfectly good meal combination, in the best interest of their bottom line.. On the downside, I have noticed that recently the portion sizes have become slightly smaller, and along with new menus and a small price increase, your order is now sold by the pound, not a small or large, as it used to be, appprox. 9 or 18 wings respectively, if memory serves. Makes sense for the operator I guess, a pound is always a pound, better control over costs, and a more consistent finished product.. Folks should bear in mind that the restaurant/bar business is a brutal one, especially when you are located in a suburban strip mall. And being a franchise, there is no doubt a 'partner', wink, wink, who is getting paid from 'above the line' . ..Still, St. Louis is head and shoulders above that other wing chain, with their ridiculously large selection of flavors, repugnant breaded wings and their practice of charging like a wounded bear for their closing act...Don't waste your time. As far as the remainder of their meal offerings, I can't comment, because I haven't tried them, nor do I plan to. I go there for wings. If I want a stone baked pizza, or fish and chips I'll go somewhere that does that well, not a wing place...This does not mean the product is in any way sub-par, I have never heard anything that would lead me to believe that was the case. So if you need a beer and hotwings fix, and the hard-to- please girlfriend/wife is looking for something a little more bistro-ish, St.Louis should keep her happy, just try not to be too obvious when you oggle the server, that, my friend, will get you in a whole new world of trouble. For a few alternatives that serve a 'St. Louis-style' wing try these places. Tom and Jerry's, Yonge St. Aurora, On. Offers a good weekend Prime Rib special. Main Street Station, Bolton On.
