That evening my spouse and I were at the nearby Canadian tire when I suggested dining out and we decided to try this Jack Astor's. We arrived and were greeted genuinely by the hostess and were seated at an outside corner table. Lovely summer evening, nice ambience, what else could we ask for. To our surprise, a group of people dining next to us was being utterly loud, I requested to be reseated elsewhere and was promptly reseated at a semi-indoor table. She was very polite and requested for the order. We ordered and the food was on the table within 10 minutes. The food was delicious and the drinks were fresh and chilled. I highly recommend this restaurant for a nice summer evening dinner

I used to love jack Astor's. Generous portions, reasonable prices, a fun place to hang out. Parking: Lots of parking. C'est les suburbs people. The car is king. Entrance: Weirdly facing Yonge Street. You have to walk around the building to get to it. Decor: Modern. Some glimpses of the old jack Astor's with the chalk boards with funny sayings. The bar used to be separate. Sigh I wish it still was it would be quieter at night. Low tables, booths, high tables seating. Food: Typical fare that you see at places like this, burgers, fries, pasta, pizza, a few other things like salad and whatever is the dish that is au currant every where. Sadly prices have gone up portions and quality have gone down. Pepe line up to eat here and I'm not 100% sure why. Oh they crank the music in the bar area so you have to tell over peoe screaming in order to be heard. Sigh.

We love this spot as we have a 6 year old and find the atmosphere so accommodating and fun. On most visits we find both the service and food to be great and we are excited to be there and return again soon. Tonight was the opposite. We were again seated in a far corner (by the bar with our child). The new menu is quite disappointing with several favourites removed such as the fajitas. We tried something new and it was a flop See photo) Not what we have grown to know and expect from JA... :(

My friend and I both brought our hearty appetite to this place last night. Personally, I had not been to any Jack Astor's since my university days...we'll not mention exactly how long ago that was. We were afraid of how long we were going to have to wait based on the lack of parking available in their fairly big parking lot. But we were in fact able to be seated immediately, after an unexpected walk through the restaurant while the woman was finding us an empty table. Fairly limited menu in comparison to other bars and grills. Only one page. Both my friend and I went for our favourite items on the menu and ordered the bow-tie chicken and I ordered the chicken parmigiana. Both were delicious, well cooked, and had a hint of heat. For dessert, we shared a 'my cookie ate my brownie' and it was warm and gooey. I give them full marks for the creativity of the name and that dessert concept. Servers were friendly and attentive despite the busy atmosphere. The place was SO loud but I wasn't expecting much to the contrary on a Saturday night and by the time we left there was a long line out the door. But for a chain: they were clean, friendly and certainly met my expectations for a Jack Astor's.

Poutine with southwestern fries and pulled pork ! (Seasonal)

I make a point to come to Jack Astor's every week because I honestly just can't get enough of that lobster and crab dip ! Besides the dip the excellent service always keeps me coming back ! The staff there is super friendly and they are very informative about the menu, and are always willing to make adjustments/substitutions for us to make sure that we are satisfied ! I usually opt for the dip or the beer cheese soup but every once in a while I like to try items on their seasonal menu. This time I got the pulled pork poutine to share with my friend and it was very tasty. The only complaints is that it did not come out all that hot and it had mustard on it (which does not go with poutine in my opinion) but it was still delicious and I would definitely try it again (asking for no mustard next time). For dessert I always get the lemon concoction, it has lemon, sprite and vanilla ice cream (don't knock it till you've tried it) it was a recommendation from one of the servers and I have not looked back since !

When we first stepped inside it felt like we had travelled back in time a few decades. Not that this is always a bad thing. It wasn't what you'd call run down. But it just looked somewhat dated, and the initial smell was that of a smoke soaked bar from the 80's. Whatever the case though; we took our seats and gave it a shot. I should also mention that what prompted us to try Big Daddy's out was a Groupon. And it seemed like an amazing deal. A regular order of wings, two entrees (there was a choice of about 10; something for everyone), and two beers, for $30. By menu prices (which were about average), the lot would have cost a touch over $60. Anyway: to the food. The wings were a 100% fail in almost every way. They were tiny, the sauce was difficult to even taste, and this was most likely the case because they were well over cooked. They seemed oven baked, and so they could have been out of the oven quite a few minutes before they were. The only saving grace was the fries - although they were just frozen fries that I can assume anyone can deep fry. Next was the chicken Parmesan. After the disappointing wings, I was surprised to learn that this dish was very good. The pasta was cooked well, the chicken was tender and juicy, and even the garlic bread was perfect. This I would go back for. Then there was the Greek Chicken Souvlaki dinner. And we're back to a miss again. The salad was okay (better once the forgotten salad dressing was delivered), and again the potato offering was well cooked (again, seemed like another type of frozen wedges deep fried), the rice was a mix of overcooked mush mixed with crunchy bits, and the chicken; yup, you guessed it, quite overcooked, just like the wings. I would have been embarrassed to serve this if I were them. The beer was good and okay. Good that there were many selections on tap, okay that although I got a beer i really liked, it wasn't as cold as I would expect to get a beer in a bar. Service was competent. The name of the only one waiting tables that time of day was Alex, and she certainly kept herself busy with the few tables she was taking care of. We did wait for about 10 minutes after finishing our meals to get the bill, and we were a little taken aback with the reminder that we were supposed to tip on what the bill would have been, not just on what we had accrued outside the Groupon. I'm sure she'd been burned before to have it come to this, but either way it felt uncomfortable, especially combined with her complaints of past poor treatment and a poor review of her waitressing skills from a recent customer. The place does seem interesting though: a bit of a throwback, but in a good way. Live music was setting up as we ate, there were pool tables off to the side, and they advertised a number of shows and other activities coming up. I think it'll be worth a second look; but next time we'll be very careful what we order

Last Saturday, my thought was to have lunch at a Chinese eatery, as there are quite a number of them. It was a rare move for me to take highway 404 northbound. I normally backroad it. I saw a sign for Chuck's Roadhouse just before I was about to exit. There's a Chuck's in Aurora? I love Chuck's. I must go. I had no problem finding it when I drove north along Bayview Avenue. It's in a plaza with a Starbucks that I frequented often a good decade ago. It occurred to me that this Chuck's is where Shoeless Joe's was. My guess is that Shoeless Joe's moved to where Grandma Loves You is. I had no problem finding a parking spot fairly close to this restaurant. I pulled into a vacant spot and walked in. There are two sets of doors to go through. You go through the first set and hang a left. You go through the second set of doors and you see the signature Harley. I took photos of it. A female staffer welcomed me. I had to repeat myself, saying that I was here to dine in. She asked if the booth ahead of me was good. It was. I got a nice view of the Oilers-Flyers hockey matinee game. My server was Christina. She was wonderful. She was super attentive during my entire stay. I got a Diet Coke with a lime wedge. She made sure that I got refills. My go-to meal at Chuck's is the seven-ounce sirloin steak and lobster tail. It's a steal for $26. I substituted fries for mashed potatoes with gravy. I also got a side order of sauteed mushrooms because I was hungry and craved mushrooms. When it's Wednesday, I tend to do ribs at Chuck's. The deals are decent and, frankly, insane. It didn't take long for my meal to arrive. I was ready to tear it up. I got my steak medium. I typically do medium well, but I find that it gets overcooked when I do. Medium is a good medium! My steak was delicious. It was perfectly seasoned. I didn't need Chuck's steak sauce with it, but I have never had it before. I liked it. The lobster tail was plump and large. I loved dunking morsels of it into my clarified butter. Heck, I love clarified butter. Practically my entire meal went into it! I love mashed potatoes with gravy. It's such a comforting side. The gravy was excellent. The mashed potatoes were smooth and buttery. In the past, this meal featured corn on the cob. I like that you get corn kernels instead. They are easier to eat and, yes, taste better with clarified butter. The skillet of mushrooms were so good. They were sauteed to perfection and flavourful. I'd get them again. I had eyed the butter toffee bread pudding when I had first arrived. The problem? I was stuffed that I couldn't fit it in. Christina suggested that I could get it to go. Yes! She did say that it came with ice cream and it would likely melt. I had an insulated bag in my car, so it wouldn't melt as fast. I said yes to dessert. She had it immediately made as I paid the bill at the table. I tipped and tapped. Easy peasy! She came back with two containers. One had my butter toffee bread pudding. The other had vanilla ice cream with candied pecans in it. Yum! I let her know that she was great. It looked like I had made her day. I left my dessert on the table as I headed to the washroom before I left. There are no doors to get into the men's and women's washrooms. There were a few stalls in the women's washroom. The stall that I used was clean. I liked the wintery decorations by the sink. When I got home, I put the ice cream in the freezer. I had dessert in the evening while watching a hockey game. The butter toffee bread pudding was so good. It was comforting, moist, and not terribly sweet. The vanilla ice cream was excellent. The candied pecans made this ice cream extra special. The texture of the pecans was great with the smooth, cold ice cream. I had a great late lunch here. Service was stellar. I'd return in a heartbeat when I'm in the area. (10)

Smokehouse burger had crispy onion rings but the patty had no character. Fries for both dishes were hot & pretty crispy. Buckaroo was a welcome replacement for the spot in the menu usually filled by apple pie. It was good: quite big, the pastry was flaky & the vanilla filling was pretty rich.
