There are alot of kids/teenagers parentless skipping the line. That matters because they have a limit... I think like 130.. I could be wrong it may be a bit more. The wait times are extremely long! I waited in line like an hour to get a wrist ban, (this is because the pool closes like an hour and if you want to be anywhere near the start of the line you better be there top of the prior hour) we got sent to another line after the wrist ban line to be let in after the pool was to open back up. After the start time elapsed, we were all still standing there another half hour or so. Then they started letting the folks on the line still receiving wristbands in before us. They need better staff there that actually give a F and can handle and police the crowd of children better. Speaking of police! There are police there, they did absolutely nothing except drive their car back and forth on a foot path that was over crowded with people. Very unsafe... they should park the car and patrol the park on foot. Veteran officers would have def known better. When the crowd of people didn't move fast enough, they blew the siren.. not the extremely loud one, but still. Once We finally got into the pool, there were so many people mosty kids/teenagers horse playing that made it impossible to even enjoy the experience. We stayed about half an hour and left. We ended up playing in the sprinklers at the front of the park the remainder of the night and had a blast. For a good time, def do not go to this pool. The park is dope though.

The park is very secluded from everything so not many people know about it which could be a good thing. The staff are friendly and do their job right, they will not let you into the pool without a proper swimming suit. I hope the park is kept up well and isn't left forgotten like many things in the Bronx.

Crews rebuilt the pool shell from scratch, replaced the deck and gutters, and put in new filtration and chemical treatment systems. The water itself feels noticeably better for it. That said, don't expect the renovation to have touched everything: the locker rooms, bathrooms, and communal showers are untouched, still the same ones I remember from before construction started. I was there again yesterday and can confirm: nothing's changed on that front, and honestly you won't be in there long enough for it to matter much. Access is still free, no Parks membership required, just a bathing suit and a padlock for the lockers. Security is strict about bag checks, and heads up: cell phones aren't allowed on the pool deck at all. Current hours: 11am-7pm daily, with the pool closing for cleaning from 3-4pm. Inside, you'll find the pool split into zones: a lap section, a general bathing area, and a shallow end for young kids. The bleachers give you plenty of space to stake out a spot for towels, and if you're lucky, you can grab one of the lounge chairs near the old diving pool (now covered over). Lap swimming has genuinely improved. The biggest change I noticed: there are now dividers separating the lanes, and they're generously wide. A real upgrade from the old system where everyone just shared open water and hoped for the best. A few things still apply, though: - Always glance ahead before pushing off to make sure no one's swimming toward you. - Roughly half the lap crowd sticks to a slow breaststroke pace. - Every so often someone decides to stand up and walk mid-lane, or just doesn't realize it's a lap-only zone. Lifeguards try to keep traffic moving, but it happens. - The pool's sheer size still works in your favor: way more room per lap than a standard 25m pool, and less crowded overall than most NYC public pools. - Timing tip: the best window for lap swimming is right at 4pm, the moment the pool reopens after the cleaning break. It might be the single best hour of the day to swim here. No outside food on deck, but there's a stand on the west side of the pool deck selling burgers, hot dogs, fries, wings, mozzarella sticks, salads, and ice cream. Cash and card both work. A heads-up: No tap-to-pay, since phones can't come out on deck anyway. Even with all the crowds NYC pools can attract, I've never found this one packed. Same goes for the surrounding park. Because it's a bit of a walk from the nearest subway stop, the crowd here skews heavily toward local families rather than people coming from across the city. This means that this pool never really gets crowded, let alone anywhere near capacity. If you're driving in, it's an easy trip: there's free public parking right at the entrance to Astoria Park, under the RFK Bridge. Speaking of pool renovations gone right: maybe for the Reflecting Pool the Trump administration should've called whoever redid the shell here at Astoria. This one's still holding water: No algae blooms, no peeling liner, no $16 million overrun. Sometimes the WPA crews from 1936 still know something the current contractors don't.

After a quick bag search, I went upstairs to the women's locker room which was cleaner than expected. Staff were nice in reminding us to lock up our stuff. As a former competitive swimmer, it was extremely difficult to do flip turns, not only because they closed half of the pool horizontally due to lifeguard staffing issues, but also because there were multiple people moving in different directions. It was busy when it first opened in the morning but then calm downed a bit and folks were able to do more lap swimming. Water was pretty clean and temperature was good; chlorine levels weren't too bad. Sounds like they close for the fall/winter so I'm hoping to come back before it gets cold.

The swimming pool is very large and has plenty of lifeguards however the locker room/bathroom situations is quite a big problem mainly in the showers since there is little to no hot water some of the time also there are broken movable shower heads in both family locker rooms and the floor itself looks festered with disease it left a bad taste in my mouth. Besides that issue the community center has good heating and air conditioning and very friendly staff and good wifi as well.

The pool was divided into specific areas for fast, medium, and slow swim speeds. Also, there is another section for people who want to do other activities like water aerobics. The other swimmers seemed to be aware of their swim speed and assigned themselves accordingly. Be aware that no one under the age of 18 (even with an adult) is allowed in the pool during these hours. Upon arriving the "security guard" who sits on the deck was super intense. He yelled at me for having my phone and book bag on the deck. Here's the thing. For this swimming program, I needed to show the program's coordinator/supervisor that I registered for the program. One can either print the confirmation form or show the supervisor your phone. I tried to explain this to the "security guard", but he seemed to be too drunk on power. Other than that, I had a nice swim. The locker room is pretty barebones, but it does have plenty of lockers where you can store things.

Hair on the floor. Someone left the shower running. Just silly gross little things that it would be nice if they checked and kept it a little tidier. I will say there were lots of kids at the pool. Earlier in the morning the younger the babies. Most of them weren't bugging out like this was hurricane harbor but I did have to curb my conversation as they swam up real close and didn't have much concept of personal space. Not horrible though. That sealed the deal. Great coaches, good group of people, and hard workouts. In terms of Baruch's pool. The actual dug in pool is good. The bathrooms leave a lot to be desired. For months, the drains in the showers didn't drain. They recently fixed that, but one of the benches by the lockers broke. Now there's only one and a chair or two stashed in the corner. Of all of the university pool locker rooms and pool locker rooms in general, this one has the most water on the floor. There is hardly any space, where it's not wet, to set your stuff down as you change. I think Baruch should consider floor mats or something. There has to be an alternative. Anyways, thumbs up for the team and thumbs down for Baruch.

Families swim in the lane nearest the locker rooms, but there are several others for lap swimmers. The place is primarily for the school's use, but it's open to members of the local community for an annual fee (prorated based on when during the year you sign up). The public hours are very limited -- check the website (google "trinity swim club") to be sure it's going to be worth it to you. If you decide it is, just print out the application and send it in per the instructions, and they'll let you know when you've been processed and you can go in to get your photo ID (just ask at the front desk). The locker room is bare bones but clean and serviceable: showers, toilets, lockers, benches, hand dryers placed at varying levels, useful for drying hair. We've been twice so far with our two year old, on weekend afternoons in the summer, and both times it was very uncrowded and the lap pool was a nice 84 degrees. However, friends who use the pool during the school year said that the pool was substantially colder then (presumably for the swim team). Two very nice lifeguards were on duty and all the swimmers very nice. A bunch of pool noodles and kickboards were available for use, even some spare goggles. You have to wear a swim cap, but they've got a handful on hand if you forget yours at home. You're supposed to go in through the locker rooms and you have to shower before going in the pool. They are not huge sticklers and they were kind enough to overlook our getting things wrong our first time there. In short, it's not a fancy place, but if you're in the close neighborhood and just want a place to swim, and the hours work for you, it's a safe, clean, convenient facility with nice staff.
