We don't recommend this center. We had to pay over $2,000 for our children with disabilities to get 30 minutes a week of for private lessons. Out of the 8 weeks, they would tell us at last minute that our child would not have classes because instructors took the day off. This community center offers a wide range of activities such as karate, jiu jitsu, ballet, swimming and other classes and activities. the ball room is very nice and refined large space for yoga, ballet, and other classes such as karate and jiu jitsu. The swimming pool is very large and has plenty of lifeguards however the locker room/bathroom situations is quite a big problem mainly in the showers since there is little to no hot water some of the time also there are broken movable shower heads in both family locker rooms and the floor itself looks festered with disease it left a bad taste in my mouth. Besides that issue the community center has good heating and air conditioning and very friendly staff and good wifi as well. read more

This is a nice, bright spot in the middle of Jerome Ave. I have been here a few times for a work training. The space is beautiful, there is a pool, basketball court, open garden space and host of community resources like classes,etc. I haven't been around the facilities much since we are only in a one room, but everything I have seen is colorful, spacious and clean. There is also a school next door to the center. I hope the residents of this area are taking advance of this beautiful place and if you in the area I'd stop by. read more

This is what the Bronx should aim to have in order to beat obesity in our borough. The community center is the best thing to hit this area since....well EVER. Honestly I have lived here since I was 5 years old and this has definitely been a well received addition to the neighborhood. For just $25 dollars (students pay 25, adults with no current school ID pay $50 for the year) you can join this center and take part in different activities. The pool is available on a fixed schedule for no additional charge. There are some great workout classes for people of different age groups, but these may require a small additional fee. They currently offer free work out, boxing and self defense classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings; you don't have to be a member to attend, they are open to the public. These classes will definitely get your heart rate going. The Alvin Ailey Dance teachers come and provide different courses throughout the year. There are also swim classes for people of different ages and skill levels, Cappoiera, yoga, etc- there is something for everyone. The center is clean, the staff is very friendly and best of all it stops people from having an excuse for being chubby- you can work out right there for free!!! I highly recommend getting yourself a membership and trying out all this center has to offer. read more

New Settlement Community Center is a breath of fresh air for the Morris Heights section of the Bronx. My son is currently enrolled in swimming classes and we are thoroughly pleased with their services. He is progressing and gaining confidence in the pool, and thus far we have been treated with courtesy and respect. The pool is clean and does not smell overly chlorinated and the center is kept extremely clean as well. The site also offers ballet, capoeira, salsa, hip hop, and free workouts some mornings amongst other activities for children and adults alike. I highly recommend those in the community to check it out. read more

I love this place!! A Community Center located in my neighborhood where I can do lap swimming. I love that the kids in the neighborhood now have a place where they can now learn how to swim, take a ballet classes, or learn a new language when they take Capoeira classes (Brazilian Martial Arts). Many of my friends who are working class parents do not have a lot of time on their hands, so they love the convenience of it being right in the Bronx. The Community Center also signed up with local farmers in the area, so once a week they bring fresh produce to the center and sell them at an affordable price. Oh I forgot they also have a Community Garden on the roof, where they encourage kids to plant flowers and vegetable seeds. Oh yeah there is Aqua Aerobics, Yoga Classes, and a FREE total body conditioning class every Saturday morning. The entire family can get in shape together. read more

NSCC is wonderful! I take a water exercise class for people with MS and I've also taken swim lessons. The instructor is very knowledgeable and pleasant and the water temperature is perfect. I love the pool! Other staff members are pleasant and helpful. It's a great community center for the community. read more

There isn't much good I can say about this place. When my family and I walked in, I was happy that the place was very clean, the staff was super nice and the pool was big. When I saw my baby swimming I was super excited and of course I was going to take pictures, is an amazing milestone! WRONG! The lifeguard immediately blew his whistle getting my attention that I couldn't take pictures. They said that is an invasion of privacy to the other parents that does not allow pictures of their kids taken by somebody else. That I understand but not take pictures of my daughter? Strike one. Next week we go in and we made it late to class because people take over the private bathroom like it's their OWN private bathroom! I had to change my daughters dirty diaper on a bench!!! And when I get inside the pool with my daughter, I see that they are kicking my husband out stating that he can't come in because "is too crowded". I was furious!!!! We pay our money so "lifeguard" can teach my daughter to swim and we can't enjoy the moment? By the way the lifeguards are a bunch of kids who don't even know the nursery rhymes. If they had a contract that clearly states their rules about no phones, no pictures, and no parents I would gladly agree and never signed my daughter to this class. They change the rules every week, add something, change something and yet we didn't sign a contract agreeing that we have to agree to their rules. My advice, don't waste your money. Save your money and sign up at a better place for swimming lessons. This place is a joke just like the lifeguards teaching the class. read more

Administration abuses the fact that they are the only facility of that kind in the neighborhood. As the previous reviewer said, there are new rules every week and they make them right on the spot as it is easier for them. They are very disrespectful and cheat, for instance: the Fridays swimming class was scheduled for 9/4, 9/11, 9/18, 9/25, 10/2, 10/9, 10/16, and 10/23, they canceled the class of 9/4 because the pool was too cold (they said) and said they would be teaching the class on 10/30. When we went for the class of 10/23 they gave the kids diplomas and announced that this was the last class and never replaced the missed class of 9/2. After the moneys were paid they came up with the rule of "no parents observing the class". There are no refunds but they do change the rules as they please. Management is a bunch of teenagers with whom it is impossible to rationalize. If you have a car and really want your child to learn how to swim I recommend you go to SUNY Maritime College Community Programs at 6 Pennyfield Avenue in the Bronx 718-409-4955, they are really good. The City also has classes but it is next to impossible to sign in. People only go to settlement because it is nearby. They are not good, trust me. I assure you that the first review was written by their administration, and the votes are all from their employees. read more
