The cellar was closed because it was short staffed - so we were seated in the garden. Service was rather slow - our appetizers came with our entree about 40 mins after we placed the order. It wasn't as though our appetizer was complex, it was prosciutto and smoked mackerel with bread. People seated after us received their dishes before us. Italian meatballs w/ MASHED (not smashed) potatoes. Oh, the sauce was bland. The mashed potatoes with tomato sauce just felt like leftovers... the meatballs were dry. I did not want to finish them. It was simply unappealing. Burger was a mess, there are FAR too many items on it that make it entirely messy. The arugula was so bitter, it had to be removed immediately. Came on a Monday night without reservations and was able to grab a tiny table. They didn't check vaccine cards at all. The service was pretty slow even when there weren't that many tables yet around us. We ordered the steamed mussels and st Mazie burger and it took around 30 mins for our food to come. I really enjoyed the mussels, the broth was great for the thick pieces of bread they gave and there were plenty of mussels. The burger had a lot left to be desired in my opinion. It felt small and the meat didn't have much flavor. This was a hidden gem for us while traveling to NYC. We came here to listen to the live jazz music. We sat at the bar with no wait. All the bartenders were amazing and super friendly. We ordered some mussels and burrata. The mussels broth was great and ordered extra bread to soak it up. Burrata was a tasty dish too. Awesome spot with live music! Got really lucky to sit at the bar at 7pm on a Saturday. I'd highly recommend making a reservation. They have indoor and outdoor (both on the street and in their back garden). They didn't ask for vaccination cards and none of the staff wore masks. They were super busy the night I was there and visibly understaffed. They had a wedding happening in the garden in the back and a full crowd indoors. The music was great; classy and not too loud. They charge a $15/person cover if you want to sit near the stage. We ordered several small dishes, peppers, Brussels, truffle gnocchi and roasted cauliflower for apps! They gnocchi was my fav. For entrees we split the burger, prosciutto flatbread and the mushroom risotto. The mushroom risotto was hands down the best dish. The burger was good but the patty itself was small. The flatbread was undercooked. Serve was slow; took about 30-40 min from the time we ordered our food til when it arrived. The atmosphere was definitely perfect for a romantic date night! We went here on a Saturday evening. They have live jazz, and it was very much our kind of music. We liked that part. However the tables are tiny. The surface of the table is about the same size as the top of the chair we sat on. It was quite uncomfortable. When our waitress brought our first round of appetizers, she could only put one on the table and told us she would put the other one on the adjacent table until we finished the first plate. She was super nice actually and was trying to help. The drinks were good. The first appetizer we had - the burrata, was pretty good. All the other appetizers and mains here so-so. St Mazie's great atmosphere is consistently overshadowed by really bad service. I've been here several times, sitting upstairs and downstairs in the cellar. The service staff consistently makes you feel like a nuisance. Drinks take way too long. They hardly acknowledge you or worse they give you attitude over a simple request. I've given them so many chances and am consistently let down. Since this has happened with so many servers I can't help this is a management problem. I came here for dinner on a Friday night with a reservation for the garden area, which is very pretty and far away enough from the jazz music that you could have a conversation. I got the burger and a side of cauliflower. Both were OK but nothing I would say you must try, the side of potatoes and the aïoli were probably the most delicious thing out of everything. I also had a nonalcoholic IPA and their ginger cocktail without alcohol, which was pretty good. In between getting our drinks and getting our order taken there was a very long wait. This is such a great date spot. The bar is intimate yet fun with live music (a three piece band) and old fashioned decor that makes it for a really good time. The food is super tasty as well. I got the Mexican Firing Squad cocktail and it was really delicious. I recommend it for anyone who likes a drink that doesn't taste like straight booze, but also doesn't want something too sweet. It's nice and tart. We split some of the small shares and all were delicious. The Balthazar bread was very good and the olive oil on the side complimented it well. I think my favorite dish was the artichoke - it was well cooked and the aioli on the side was to die for! We also had the cauliflower which was delicious and the truffle gnocchi (I could have actually used it being slightly more truffle-y but it was good nonetheless. St Mazie is a great spot! It is cozy, romantic and relaxing. We came on a Friday night and sat right by the band. The band started playing promptly and were so good! For reference, the band was Charlie Roman Hot Club and they play St Mazie frequently from my understanding. Our server was spectacular. She was on top of everything, and she had so many tables to keep track of, but she did it with ease. She constantly checked on us, gave great recommendations and made sure we were happy with everything. We never felt like we were forgotten, quite the opposite. We had drinks, small plates and large plates. Everything was excellent from the deviled eggs to the burger. We even had dessert - chocolate mousse. There was an additional fee of $15 per person to have seating near the band, but we didn't mind this (and it was disclosed prior to making the reservation). This isn't a cheap night out by any means, but it is definitely an enjoyable one. We will definitely be back! read more

2.5 stars out of 5 for experience. They have a lovely outdoor seating area with umbrellas for shade. Depending what time of day you go the umbrellas should cast enough shade to keep you cool on a hot day. We were the only table there. Table of two for a bite and drinks. Not sure why the service was extremely slow, could be a number of reasons especially now during these weird times so we most definitely give them a pass for that. Despite being the only the table we get it. It's not normal procedures I'm sure for the restaurant. I ordered a cocktail and my brother a beer. My mezcal cocktail was on the pricey side for what it was. It was good not too strong. I ordered the burger. It came with pickles and home fries. All of which came out cold. The home fries were dry but well seasoned. The burger was over cooked ( I asked for it to be med rare) but honestly if it was warmer and cooked less I would have liked it. The pickles funny enough were warm. I think the plate had been sitting out for a while? Idk what's going on. Not sure if our server had an off day but there was little to no greeting or interactions regarding the meal/ drinks. Would have been nice to at least be checked on to see how things were going. I came here on a Friday night with my boyfriend. We ordered 3 drinks and a muscle pot. The drinks were solid, the old fashion was great. The muscles were good But the lemon grass wasn't used correctly and so every time we to tried to soup up some muscle juice it had a weird barky texture since lemon grass it's self is inedible. What really threw us off those two things. Although the band was great while in the middle of our meal, one of the band members or band members significant other came up to us asking for Tips. We were fingers deep into our muscle pot and said "sorry were just a little messy right now and can't reach into anything" she then proceeded to ask and stood there until we tipped her. It was a really an uncomfortable situation And the folks next to us even mentioned how uncomfortable she made them as well. To add on we were seated in a corner and couldn't even see the band. The second thing that the through Us off us was when we were ready to pay our waitress Brought us our bill for $54. After we gave her our card and she came back with the receipt we saw that $86 was charged instead. When we asked her what happened she had no explanation and said that was the right amount. I didn't know they had them, it was a pleasant surprise - the grain bowl, with the smoked whitefish. Amazing combination of flavors and textures...and super yummy for a healthy dish! This place is seriously awesome, so much so that I daresay it's one of the most unique dining experiences in Williamsburg. Prepare to be transported to a totally different time and place after walking in and if you're dining, prepare to be wowed by a bunch of fantastic flavors. For cocktails I got the "said and done," a mixture of vodka and ginger syrup, which was so refreshing. My date got a red wine carafe and this was a lot of good red wine at a reasonable price. We shared the mushroom risotto to start. It was honestly perfect; so much mushroom flavor, cooked just right, and the mushrooms had a hearty texture. Definitely comfort food at its finest. Then we shared the roast chicken and short ribs for mains. The chicken tasted fresh, was perfectly seasoned and cooked, and served with a big dollop of mashed potatoes. The short ribs were falling-off-the-bone tender and served on top of a delicious white bean mixture. Then there is the music and atmosphere which almost makes you feel like you're on the Titanic or at an old school jazz bar. And the fact that you can go upstairs and watch live jazz bars at your leisure. And there's an outdoor patio. This place kind've has it all! read more

Stumbled into St. Mazie with a friend on a Monday night and was so glad I did. The restaurant is intimate and trendy, but the food was divine. They have regular live music bands that play quiet jazz. It's perfect for a date night or a romantic night out. When we first arrived, we were asked if we had a reservation (we did not) but the hostess was able to move stuff around to seat us immediately. They seemed a bit understaffed because service was initially slow but the lady who sat us down ended up taking care of us and was so sweet. I ordered the roast chicken and because of my stupid diet, asked to sub the side with a kale salad, which they generously accommodated. When our server said it might take 20 minutes for it to come out, it came out within 10. The chicken was divine - not what I would normally order but I'm glad I did. The salad was simple but a great complement to the chicken. Expect any plate here to set you back $15-20. They have a great happy hour until 8pm, which includes $6 house beer and wine. If I were drinking at the time, I probably would have gotten a cocktail, the menu looked large. All in all, a solid experience. We sat outside in the back yard, enjoying a terrifically sunny day. It was one of those rare perfect New York Spring Summer afternoons, not too hot, not too cool. The mosquitos were all still in bed, saving energy for their 'reign of terror', due to start in a month or so's time. We supped on chilled rose whilst trying to secure the wobbly table and avoiding a persistent drip from above (it was some kind of drainage issue or a very localised rain shower). Feeling a might peckish our table of five ordered a selection of boards and a plethora of oysters. My consternation and surprise return to Yelp (aren't you happy I'm back?) was motivated by what lay beneath the cheese, olives and deviled eggs. The board on which the food was served was centrally coated in what appeared to be BLACK MOULD! We discussed this as a party but were too meek and shy to bring it up with the waiting staff (who forgot an order of drinks at some point in the afternoon). Was it mould? Could the wood be burnt? But why would it be burnt? There's no pizza on the menu or reason to place it on a stove or in an oven. Oh no, it must be mould?! I did the only reasonable thing to do to get to the bottom of this mystery, I posted it on my instagram stories. Let the people decide if it's mould or not! Of course no-one really knows for sure, but the general consensus leans somewhat to the mould side of things. I would like to point out that the boards were black on both sides, all the boards we encountered had the same ugly patches of suspected mould and that it's not a good sign for a restaurant that you're even having to question dubious hygiene standards. Also the non-black bits of the boards were dirty. The boards had splits in too, which surely is a preferred hiding spot for bacteria, e-coli and associated gunk. If the black stuff was not mould I would give this place 3 stars - totally generic ye-olde-Brooklyn spot, that you will probably enjoy enough for an evening but never need to go back to. There was no live music whilst we were there it should be noted. If the black stuff was mould (what else might it be?!) then it's 1 star and an ill feeling in my stomach this morning. read more

I'm glad that this jazz establishment is still around during COVID-19, but the food is well below average at best. When we ordered the dozen of raw oysters, they were insanely small size in meat. Yes, I know what blue point oysters should look like. I would recommend the mussels instead, and we paid full price, not happy hour price. I complained to the waitress, and she said that this is how they are. The cocktails are expensive and cute, nice coupe glasses that fills to about 3-4 ounces in liquid for $16. I would do a hard pass. The best thing was the live jazz band, called Baby Soda. If you want really good raw oysters, I would go to Maison Premiere and/or Mermaid Inn. I was absolutely excited to try this place because I'm in the neighborhood. However, we waited 45 minutes for our food and we noticed the neighboring tables that came after us got their food. Perhaps, they forgot to put in the order. I flagged our waitress, and she said they are plating our food right now. She comes back with complimentary stale bread and olives as we waited, which we did not consume. 20 minutes go by, we still did not get our food. Clearly, they were not plating it. I wish the waitress would have been honest with us because waiting over a hour is ridiculous. We left the premise after wasting more than 1 hour. St. Mazie reminds me of a bar that would exist somewhere in New Orleans, minus the hipstery vibe. They have a good semblance of what makes the nightlife world go 'round: solid cocktails, even better food, and decent array of live entertainment in the form of jazz. This is certainly a Brooklyn gem. The way I envision a good night here is to come with friends for a casual dinner or a light bite. Finish it off with a round of expertly made cocktails. Gaze and admire the fun and extremely well tailored decor and embrace the evening through the music on stage. Either that or take advantage of the good weather and enjoy their backyard during their lively brunch hour. They make a mean poached egg over avocado toast. There is also a chicken burger with some super tasty potato wedges that have made me an immediate fan. Going early may be key for quality seating. During the hotter months, ventilation can be a bit of a challenge. The bathrooms are a tight squeeze and it gets harder when the bar is packed with people. While I appreciate the good service, sometimes I feel the bar is understaffed and the wait for a good drink is inevitable. The music almost trumps all. The lineup they have night in and out (there is a schedule as well!) really could jazz up a crowd on the right night.
