After a couple of visits, many of the church goers had learned our names and made us feel welcomed. The atmosphere is very warm. You don't get any dirty looks from any one when your baby gets fussy and starts acting up. They don't judge you because of your looks, lifestyle, ethnic backgrounds or history. During services they have 2 childcare rooms; infants and toddlers. After services most people move into the dining hall to grab a delicious pastry or fresh fruit along with something to drink and meet and mingle with every one. Working at one of the casinos I always feel drained and blah from all the negativity all around me. I enjoy coming here for the positive vibes. It's like a recharge. They have plenty of activities such as painting, tai chi, trips and fund raisers. I do the weekly Bethel Bible study. It's a small group of a dozen or so and we discuss the Bible in depth. Being new to reading the Bible this program is so helpful. They teach you that the mindset of the people of the times was more philosophical and not literal which helps make sense of many of the Bible verses. I always look forward to Bethel. He does NOT teach a magical life, holy in the sense of being wholly useless, a life wearing rosy glasses in an ivory tower. No. He is a fellow Christian who has struggled on the front lines of real life. His teachings are directly based on the Word of God. His manner of speaking is very honest and direct, and so his message is easy to follow. But he does not speak to tickle our ears. He speaks sometimes uncomfortable truths to challenge us to rise to the occasion, to suffer the trials Jesus promised us, and to go from glory to glory.
