Yes, Chester Alan Arthur (1829-1886) served as President of the United States from 1881 to 1885, taking over for the assassinated James A. Garfield. I did not know much about President Arthur other than the brief reference to him in Die Hard With a Vengeance (the school with the bomb was named after him). He achieved little notoriety as a President, though this quote says much about him: "No man ever entered the Presidency so profoundly and widely distrusted as Chester Alan Arthur, and no one ever retired ... more generally respected, alike by political friend and foe." It seems to me that he was a great leader for America. His tomb here is quite nice. You're looking for lot 8, section 34. This was my first visit to the Albany Rural Cemetery even though I have resided in the Albany area…read moreall my life. The sun was shining, the birds were chirping on this glorious day. Strange to visit a cemetery without having to gone to a funeral first. It turns out that this is resting place that is visited by a good number of visitors on any given day. Chester B. Arthur is also a resident of this cemetery. The mature trees and rickety roads all lead the way to the unique headstones and mausoleums with angels keeping watch over all those resting in peace. It's a beautiful place to visit. I am sure I'll be back for another visit.

It's a smallish (for a cemetery) area that is surrounded by homes and a church. Some very old, funky headstones are peppered with the newish headstones. We recently had a relative pass away who was going to be buried near Troy in the family plot. When we pulled out our records, we noticed his family used Riverview 20 years ago when his grandmother needed their services. So, we called them to use their services again. In full honesty, we had no idea what to expect. We knew nothing about them except they were in the area we needed. When we needed their services, we called them up first to figure out the next steps that involved transport and the general services involved with burying a person. We were a bit nervous because we had no family left in the area (well, above ground) and did not know who we needed to contact about the plot, religious services, flowers, and all the rest. Riverview was a life saver. They handled everything. And when I say everything, I mean everything. They handled the pickup, plane transportation, cemetery, obituaries, flowers, priest coordination, service, and everything else I'm missing. They were kind, professional, organized, and completely on the ball. Absolutely everything worked perfectly and exactly as it was expected. I also found the cost of the services to be very reasonable. If you have little experience, funerals are not cheap... if it is your first experience, you will have sticker shock... and after the sticker shock, you are often a bit stunned by the cost. Riverview was not cheap, but everything 'all in' costs roughly the exact same amount of money it cost to bury my own grandparents about 10 years ago. So, with that amount in mind (granted, I know its a different area of the country, but I assume many of these things are fixed costs), I was fine with the cost of their services. I will probably never need their services again because this was the last relative to set up permanent residence in that area. However, if I do ever need to use a funeral home in the Albany/Troy area again, I'd call them in a heartbeat.

After a long illness, my grandmother passed and my family and I looked all over the Capital Region for a funeral home that could honor the woman my grandmother was in life. Riverview Funeral Home went above and beyond. The service was beautiful, the grounds were well-kept, and the entire staff made the entire process better than I could have expected. A big thank you to everyone that helped remember my grandmother and what an effect she had on all those she touched.

Cannon funeral homes professionally helped me through the worst time of my life…read more They were considerate, professional, and never pushy about the logistical details and requirements of the service. They worked with our family to ensure that my wife was honored and that her service, along with most of the logistical stuff you would not want to spend your time doing, were handled. During the planning, they explained our options, politely explained deadlines for certain items and requirements, and was considerate of our time and spontaneous requests. Some of the things that were done included assisting us with the writing of her obituary, adding details to their web site, creating a central site which served as a place to offer tribute, condolences, view slide shows, and obtain relevant logistical details like locations and times of the services. All things we were able to leave to the site and not be overly concerned with during the process. The service was well planned, the preparations down to every detail and specification were undertaken with the utmost care, and even when we asked to have a stop added to the procession, for her, they did so without complaint. It is my sincere hope that you rarely need this review and even more rarely that you would need Cannon's services, but when you are in need, I recommend them.
