Once again, we came together as a community to celebrate Night to Shine event on February 6th. I had the honored to be part of this amazing event. During the night we were running low on materials, by the grace of God miraculously we had exactly what we needed to make 95 corsages and boutonnières. All 35 corsages and 65 boutonnières were made in 3. 5 hours. The volunteers are amazing with no previous experience at all. I am always amazed how much love, care and humankind these volunteers give unconditionally.

I'm not a big church goer in the slightest. I grew up in a mixed faith household next to my…read moregrandparents. My Grandma was very much a bible thumping baptist. My dad eventually follow later in life. My mother is more spiritual and a lot of my immediate or close family fall all over Christian and Catholic based faiths. I have lots of Jewish friends, some Muslim, some Pagan and so forth. I've always considered myself a very open spiritualist with the quote from the movie Dogma resonating with me, "It doesn't matter what you have faith in, just that you have faith" - Serendipity (Selma Hayek) Which to me also stands as, "It doesn't matter what you believe in, as long as you believe." I believe there is no one religion - there's truth and good in all of it, however also very much the opposite. It's hard for people to admit fault out of fear and to be more open to others for that same reason. At MCC they're very very open, mindful and considerate. I often attend events here, but do not attend the church services. I like supporting the community in the San Fernando Valley/Greater Los Angels and they very much support everyone especially the LGBTQ+. Solid parking, but the lot can fill up. Street parking available and plenty of restrooms. They've got beautiful rooms, clean restrooms and a really nice patio. Keep spreading the love MCC. I'll keep doing the same.

It is open during the day to allow visitors to hang in their their community room, where there seems to be regular rather serious card playing participants on Thursdays. Another group is in the backyard smoking or taking in the sun in the backyard. I go there on some Thursdays sInce the LGBT Center located in Hollywood has senior outreach programs here when on some Thursdays there is a tech guy who will answer questions posed by seniors about computer or smart phone related issues. One Wednesday a month, Avatar meets here for like minded people where one can learn more about the arcane world of SM & other related subjects. In many ways, this MCC UCC church is many things to many people in ever diverse Los Angeles which is a good thing. May a thousand blossoms bloom. Talking about blooms, MCC UCC church has invested a lot of time & money in creating a mostly drought resistant, xeric raised garden, but no one seems to water many of the plants. Even drought resistant plants especially in pots need water once a month so that some of them looked distressed. Hopefully, some of the congregants will take pity on the poor plants & water them occasionally especially the Staghorn Fern on the back wall & the tropical yellow & white fragrant blooming Plumeria nearby.

In response to Shushanik's yelp review, she seems to be mistaken since she is not knowledgeable about the Melkite Greek Catholic faith. Here is some helpful information. However, anyone can research it online too. Although St. Anne's is Catholic, it branches to the Byzantine, Rite (Eastern Rite). It goes back to the Middle Eastern Christians from Syria and surrounding Middle Eastern countries. This is why St. Anne's church has a second liturgy (mass) in Arabic. The first one is in English. The Greek icons and sayings in the Melkite Greek Catholic Church is from the heritage of the Byzantine Rite that is also used in the Eastern Orthodox churches. On a sidenote, Eastern Orthodox churches (example: Greek Orthodox church) does not follow the Pope. A Melkite Greek Catholic and a Roman Catholic however, does follow the Pope. The difference is that a Melkite Greek Catholic receives all the sacraments at once. A baby is baptized, receives communion, and is confirmed all at once. However, a Roman Catholic receives the sacraments at different times. A baby is baptized, has a first communion at age 7, and is confirmed at age 15. A Melkite Greek Catholic is given communion in the mouth. However, a Roman Catholic has the option of taking the communion placed in their left hand so that the person uses the right hand to take the communion and put it in their mouth. A Melkite Greek Catholic (Eastern Rite) and Roman Catholic (Western Rite) both do the sign of the cross. However, Melkite Greek Catholic goes from right to left whereas a Roman Catholic goes from left to right. Both sides of the Catholic Church do not have bibles in the pews. In my opinion overall, I think it's the same as they are both Catholic under the Pope. I go to St. Anne's every Sunday and after reading Shushanik's review, I remember seeing a woman taking pictures during the church service, which is not only disruptive, but also disrespectful. Instead, it is proper to take pictures before or after the church service. On another church service, I remember someone else that came to church with a Hydro Flask. Before the priest spoke his sermon, he asked the person to please put the drink away as there is no eating and drinking inside the church. Overall, this is just common sense, having manners, and being respectful.

They have 2 masses. One at 9:30am in English, and the other one at 11:30am in English and Arabic. I went to the 9:30 one. This is where I am kind of confused. This church is a Greek Catholic church. Why is the sermon at 11:30 done in Arabic? I don't understand. When I walked in, I was 3 minutes late and one of the pastors gave me a side eye. Strike one. No greeting from anyone, no program to hand out. So I went and sat down in one of their pews. Bishop Francois Beruti, was filling in for pastor Dimitri. (I don't even know who Dimitri is). Bishop Beruti gave an excellent sermon!! People are NOT friendly at all. No one talked to me, nothing. The choir was on the balcony. So out of tune. My ears were tired of listening to them. There were absolutely no good vibes nor energy at this church. The pews had no Bibles behind the seats, and whatever else was there, was so unorganized. Like envelopes, pamphlets, small prayer books. The area that you light candles was SO narrow, and didn't have enough candles for people to light. I don't know if many of you are familiar with liturgical incense.. was way tooooo strong that made me feel like gagging, and the scent was too overpowering. Everyone was so pretentious. There was barely about 45 people there and the duration of the mass was 1.5 hours -- TOO LONG! When it was time for accepting the Eucharist, the bread which represents Jesus's body was so STALE. At least 2 months old dipped in wine. The architecture of the building from inside and outside was STUNNING!!! Let me not forget to tell you that this rude man came behind me while I was taking photos, and told me to do that once the mass was over. I wasn't bothering, nor was I interrupting him, others or the mass. He even scared me, the way he came behind me. Later, they had refreshments in the hall where they hold events. It was so small, half eaten. Took one glance at it, and walked away. Plenty of parking spaces, clean restroom. One for women, and one for men. They do baptisms, weddings, and funerals. As soon as the mass finished, they immediately blew all the candles, closed the curtains and gave us a look to get out. It was like an obligation for them to go through with this mass and service.. Safe to say, I will not go to this church again. There are plenty of churches around me that I can hear God's voice and power of the Holy Spirit..
