Home of the arch bishop and many priests and members of the Catholic Church organization. This beautiful classic style cathedral is massive and has an impressive campus. Walking in they have seat back chairs rang attach and make a semi circle around the stage and massive columns. The roof painted like the night sky of Bethlehem in the tale of Jesus birth is a nice elegant touch. I have visited this cathedral for a mass a handful a times from my nephews awards ceremonies and confirmations and recently to my own daughters confirmation. Overall a very lovely place to take in a mass and hold a special sacramental event such as confirmations or weddings. Being downtown you will have to street park or pay to garage park. I usually Park the adjoining 4th street live parking garage and it provides a close and easy place to park and get in and out.

Greetings were warm but not overbearing. I felt welcome. The congregation was interesting and diverse. The church has many Thai Karen members, and it was great to see that the English and Karen-speaking people function as one church body. The church makes nice use of technology and uses headsets to provide a Karen translation of the sermon, etc. The music was excellent in this morning's service. There were traditional hymns, as well as some more modern music. There was both piano and organ, but the organ didn't overwhelm the congregational singing. There was also special music accompanied by guitar. Crescent Hill's young pastor, Jason Crosby, delivered a clear, interesting message. In summary, I was impressed by this church. I'll be back!

Interpretation of worship services: Most Sundays, the 10:45 worship service is interpreted into Karen language and American Sign Language. Karen language interpretation can be heard through ear pieces that can be picked up in the Narthex. ASL interpretation is also offered most Wednesday evenings at 6:00pm during the prayer meeting. About big push for small groups and women not being able to become pastors. I asked not in a rude or questioning manor. Simply for some clarification. I was told that they would contact me for a final interview to become a member. That call never came. When I questioned it, I was told that they felt my beliefs did not line up with theirs. That I might be happier attending church somewhere else.

The chanting on Wednesdays is held in a beautiful shrine room, and annually different monks from their actual monastery (in exile in India) visit. Sometime between December and January they make a mandala, and I know it is beautiful to see. They have a library (!) and a room where people get together to watch relevant documentaries about Tibet and that religion. And - most importantly - it's like magic when you get to sit and listen to them interpret the various texts; almost as if you're is listening to someone speak who is so brilliant about the topic that he doesn't have to think.

It was a peaceful opening ceremony followed by the beginning of a week long process. We did not get to return to see the completed mandala sadly but enjoyed what we did get to see. We came in during the afternoon on a Friday, there were only two people there, we sat respectfully in the back of the Church to enjoy it. It is a very large and well kept Church with beautiful stained glass windows. The main reason we came in though, is because we had heard it had a very interesting and original detail. That it did, there is on the cusp of the dome on the inside, a huge eye surrounded by gold tile. We couldn't help but wonder how many parents terrorized their kids by telling them that during mass God was watching them.. as a child I would definitely have been real good in mass with that huge eye over me. It happens that one of the people in the church was a priest who greeted a couple who came in and were obviously talking about their upcoming wedding. He was warm and caring.

They offered an 11 pm (Midnight) service preceded by a Christmas concert that sounded perfect. My mom has some mobility issues and we were concerned about the parking for the church. We saw a small lot in back, but we opted for street parking right in front that provided the shortest walk. I didn't have any issue parallel parking at 10 pm on Christmas Eve, but could see it being dicey for regular services especially 5 pm on a Friday or Sat night. As others have said, this is a gorgeous church built in the early 20th century. It has an amazing dome with an eye at its oculus. Both intriguing and a bit unnerving. Stations of the cross and old school, confessional booths remind many, including me, of parochial school. Other guests to the parish like us were taken with the interior. In fact, the woman in front of me was actually taking photos with her Nikon - something I've never seen in my 35 years of Catholicism. All the lay ministers and clergy were welcoming and we enjoyed our celebration at St.James. I want to go back during the day and look around when there's less activity.

A chior of about 50 singers and an orchestra of about 25 musicians were so entertaing. The narrarators told the story of Jesus and the chior and orchersta provided the music. The youth choir also performed. They too were well rehearsed and talented. The sanctuary was full as was the patking lot. A very powerful and entertaining program with many talented sole vocalist and the entire orchestra.

Louisville is chock full of Presbyterian churches, but the overwhelming vast majority of them are PCUSA, which has largely compromised on several core teachings. Redeemer is PCA, which is a conservative branch of the Presbyterian church. At the time of writing this review, there are only 3 PCA churches in Louisville, and one is Korean speaking. * A reverent service. One thing I've always respected about the Presbyterian church is the way they approach the service. Too many evangelical churches in America are loosey-goosey and seemingly flippant in their approach. It's good to see a subdued group coming together to worship the Lord. * Singing of the Psalms! One of the few times I've ever sang a Psalm. Really appreciate a church that looks to sing scripture. Cons to Redeemer Presbyterian... * (blank) I'm looking to go back as often as I can.
