On top of the Virgin Islands!

Beauty comes in many forms. There are numerous ways to the top of the world. You can either walk, drive, or ride the cable cars. There are a couple of shops for souvenirs and a place that serves Tex-mex style food which is really, really amazing! We went up on a cloudy day and in my photos you can see it looked like it was going to storm. Well it did, but within twenty minutes it was sunny, and beautiful!! What really makes this place so great is the view, plus the food, and then you add the awesome beverages they have. Then you end up with an A++ place. MAKE SURE, you bring your camera because this place deserves every photo you have to take! Granted, no photo, does justice for this place and its unmatched beauty. The cable cars do not run unless there is a cruise ship docked. So if you seek the adventure/view of that, but are not visiting the island via cruise ship keep that in mind. Although, upon your stay, make sure you visit Paradise Point it'll be worth the time.

Paradise Point is roughly a 10 minute walk from the Charlotte Amalie cruise ship terminal. You take the cable car ($22 for adults) up to Paradise Point, where there is a restaurant and some shopping. You can walk up to Paradise Point if you feel motivated too or drive up there and park. But you are really up there for the majestic views of the Harbor and to enjoy the famous Buckwacker. I could spend hours just staring at the view, watching the sea planes land and take off and enjoying a beverage or two. They have seating in the shade and the sun. They have 2 separate bar areas with TVs, so you won't miss the game. Plenty of shopping for souvenirs. Some cruise ships offer Paradise Point has part of their tours.

Looks like there are other areas that weren't open like the bar and Gondola but we went on a Monday night.

The biggest issue was the lack of organization from the start. We spent close to an hour waiting between multiple lines--first in the sun to exchange tickets, then again to hand off a second ticket. It felt unnecessarily complicated and poorly managed. Because of the delays, the boat traveled very fast to make up time. The water was choppy, and several guests became seasick on the way to the snorkeling site. There were also multiple issues with communication and expectations. We were not informed in advance that full-face snorkel masks were not allowed, which would have impacted our decision to book. The equipment provided did not feel clean, and we were told there were not enough flippers or beverages for everyone. The excursion description advertised rum punch, soft drinks, and snacks, but no snacks were provided. The rum punch was also very poor quality, and most guests declined more. While the snorkeling location at Buck Island was beautiful and the water was calm, the actual experience in the water was lacking. The guide quickly swam off and was not visible to the group, leaving guests without direction. Our time snorkeling felt short--around an hour. The return trip was slower and more comfortable, which we appreciated. However, overall this was the least enjoyable snorkeling excursion we have experienced. We would not choose this company again and would recommend others consider alternative options.

After about a ten minute walk from the ship, we embarked on our sail to Buck Island National Wildlife Refuge. Once we arrived at Turtle Cove, the crew gave us thorough snorkeling instructions (including: don't touch the turtles), and distributed quality equipment. They were super helpful to anyone in need. My snorkeling PIC and I swam halfway between the boat and a big group of people, and found a beautiful sea turtle having lunch underneath us. We floated with her for about an hour. Unfortunately, tourists from the other boat were trying to touch her. Ew. [$10k fine, by the way] Once we were back on board the bar opened for endless cocktails. We drank tasty rum punch all the way back to port. Overall, an AMAZING three hour excursion, I would definitely book again.

This was a two tank dive near Buck Island off St. Thomas, one dive at Wye Reef and one dive at Cartanza Wreck which is actually three spots that are close together. Captain David took us out in the Tropic Diver II and Shelby was our dive master. The boat was clean, the equipment seemed well taken care of, and both Shelby and Captain David were extremely friendly and helpful. There was another dive master who had four non-certified divers on the other end of the boat. I had no interaction with them. This was an excursion booked through Carnival. This company goes by Underwater Adventure and Adventure Scuba and School. I mention this because the only way I found them to review since Carnival does not provide the name of the company was to do a search for the boat!!! There were four certified divers, an excellent number for a newly certified diver because both Shelby and my dive buddy took extra care to watch after me. During my two dives, I saw the nice reef, the wreck sites, a shark, an eel, a turtle, a lobster, several white sea urchins, one large black sea urchin, and lots of fish. Because it was my first dive I did not want to be distracted with a camera, therefore I'm not able to share what I saw. The attached photos came off the web. I highly recommend this company. I was nervous for my first dive but Shelby was reassuring and made sure I did everything safely. I can not say enough good about the experience!!!!

On this Holland America ship excursion, the diving was OK, but I was very surprised to see Aluminum…read more72cf scuba tanks being used instead of Aluminum 80cf tanks, which required adjusting my preset tank straps on my BCD. Although it was not a problem, I was just surprised to find these tanks on a Caribbean dive. In fact, this was the only dive operator I have used anywhere in the world that uses these tanks, but I doubt many of the divers had a clue at to what size tank they had. Although the air quantity was ultimately sufficient for the shallow, low dive time profiles (33.5 and 37 minute dives), I would have preferred to have Aluminum 80s, and longer dive times. In all fairness to the dive operator, this was a ship excursion with a lot of low experience divers on a very large dive boat, and they no doubt had a tight schedule to maintain. The crew did a nice job dealing with, and keeping safe, so many low experience divers. I would have rated this dive operator higher had they split the divers into compatible experienced divers to provide a better dive experience for everyone.
