Welsh realized the need for a second Catholic parish in Reston. On July 5th, 1979, Bishop Welsh created the parish of St. John Neumann. The parish was named after St. John Neumann. On June 28, 1982, the 550 seat church was dedicated. It is located on the 18 acres of parish property off of Lawyers Road. Growth in the Reston area continued at an amazing rate, and soon attendance exceeded the 550-seat worship area. On May 23rd, 2004, the community gathered to celebrate the Dedication of the new worship space (seating 1150, with the original 550 seat church remaining as a secondary worship space). ... Vicky and I have been members of the St. John Neumann Catholic Community since the mid 1990's. We met here, we attended Mass each Sunday here, we married here in 2000 under Fr. CoF is such a welcoming congregation, everyone will greet you when you arrive and remember you when you return. They are very involved in the community and support a food pantry each week for our neighbors in need. There are Sunday school classes, adult worship groups, a youth group and a choir, so if you are interested in being involved, there is a place for you. Each Sunday there are two services, 8:30 and 10:30 am. The sermons are very relevant and interesting. Rob, the pastor is wonderful. He has been there for my family during hard times of loss. This church is a nice mix of traditional and modern worship as they mix relevant topics and videos with traditional hymnals. At the earlier service communion is held each week, for the later service it is the first Sunday of every month. All are welcome at the table. The music is very conservative, but it's fantastically done. Brandon the music pastor is very talented. Great teen ministry. People do dress conservatively but I've never heard a message on pants vs skirts. People dress up for church there, because they feel church is sacred, but they don't turn people away if they come in jeans. People are friendly, but northern VA is not the deep south, just a different business culture in the metro area. They use exclusively the KJV, believe in salvation by grace through faith, eternal security, and other conservative Baptist beliefs. Honestly, it's a wonderful place with good people. Generally 30 min singing, 30 minute preaching.
