The Primrose School of Chantilly (PSOC) has provided a fun, loving, safe, and nurturing environment for our 2.5 year old son. He started in the infant room at 3 months old, and has grown up with almost all of his classmates from infancy through toddlerhood! It has been amazing to watch his class grow together. At the beginning, I was nervous about heading back to work after my maternity leave ended and leaving such a young baby in the care of other people for 7-8 hrs a day. By the end of his first week at PSOC, I felt so much better and my guilt had subsided! The staff and his teachers empathized and were there to talk me through any questions or concerns I had. They made it such a smooth transition, and I felt confident leaving him in their care. Over two years later, I've consistently had great interactions with the leadership team, staff, and teachers. They adore my son, and the most important thing of all is my son LOVES to be at PSOC! He is happy and continues to learn at an astounding pace, always coming home with new phrases and words he learned at school, or art projects he completed with the teachers. COVID-19 has been challenging for all of us, but PSOC has went above and beyond during this difficult time. They have been communicative, transparent, and followed safety protocols. That's all we can really ask for, and I've been impressed by the way they have handled the pandemic. We'll unfortunately be moving to California this summer of 2021, and I'm already starting to look for new preschools for my son. It's been so hard to find somewhere as great as PSOC - we will miss them dearly! My child has been attending since he was a baby and is now almost 3 at time of this review. The school has been wonderful for his development. From very hands on and nurturing teachers / caregivers to the very engaged new management, my son is always very excited and positive about school. He has forged strong friendships with children that he has been with since infancy. I like the structured nature of day for each class, as it encourages children to understand that there is playtime, learning time, eating time, and sleep time and that creates a degree of discipline and instruction-following that helps me to reinforce at home. We've been attending from the time of the earlier management to the current. While there were some growing pains that resulted from that changeover, I never once felt as if the degree of care for my child diminished. I would likely not have been aware of any changes at all had the new owners and manager not been very transparent with me from the beginning. As a parent, I feel very respected here. read more

My advice for anyone reading this: STEER CLEAR OF THIS PRESCHOOL, which is run by a deceitful owner who puts their own greed above everything else. My daughter used to love Primrose, that was until Hema Patel and her husband took over after Kathy Sheanh. Unlike Kathy, Hema Patel does not care about the health and wellness of the children - she sees dollar signs, not names and faces. It's evident that honesty and integrity are foreign concepts to these new owners. From false promises about the extensive curriculum quality to the lack of qualified staff, it's abundantly clear that the priority is lining their own pockets, not fostering a nurturing environment for children or supporting teachers, as they falsely promise. Within a few months of Hema Patel taking over, wonderful teachers began leaving and were replaced with unqualified staff - one of which was fired because she reeked of marijuana. The owner didn't inform the families until a parent, who happened to be present in the classroom at the time, brought it to her attention. The lack of equipment, toys, books, and supplies soon became very evident in the classrooms. Ms. Smith, an office manager left. Ms. Dcosta, an office manager left. Ms. Malik, an office manager left. Ms. Aboubakr, an office manager left. You could see the frustrations through the leadership team, as they one after another departed the school. Then the violations started flooding in (see photos attached). Then the wonderful director, Linda Baker, and the wonderful education coach, Ms. McNeil left, followed by several teachers and many many families (12 families that I know of). I had decided to speak with the owner about the high turnover rate which led to inadequate teachers in my child's classroom and the many concerning violations the school has gotten since she took over (7 valid violations, which included classrooms continuously being out of ratio, an insufficient amount of food given to the children, and a child having to get six stiches because the room was left out of ratio). During the face-to-face conversation I had with her, she presented herself very unprofessional, uncaring, and unaware of school policy procedures and the general well-being of the children. It also should be noted that, throughout the entire conversation, she blatantly lied through her teeth the entire time, and blamed all of the problems on the wonderful teachers and the director. To add further salt to the wound, she didn't know my child's name! The same has been said by several other parents after they brought up the issue with her. I pulled out my daughter soon there after. To sum it up in a few words: AVOID THIS PRESCHOOL. It's like a sinking ship, with teachers and families jumping off left and right. The owners are more interested in making a quick buck than actually running a decent safe place for kids. Primrose has always been such a wonderful school and it is such a shame to see what the school has become under the ownership of Hema Patel. I'm amazed that this school is still able to be open. My husband and I use different cuts of steak as an analogy for daycares. In-home daycares are hanger steak or tri-tip. Popular centers such as KinderCare and Chesterbrook are rib eye and T-bone steak. Primrose is filet mignon, wagyu and kobe steak - premium cuts. We also joke if we send our child to Primrose, we probably will not be eating wagyu and kobe again for years. I was open to sending our baby to Primrose despite the higher cost in tuition compare to neighboring daycares. I was impressed with their curriculum for infants, toy cleaning policy, organic meals, plethora of resources, and the overall Primrose learning philosophy. The school's atmosphere had a pretentious vibe but it didn't matter to me if my baby is going to thrive. While deciding between another daycare and this Primrose location, I decided to do an "unannounced visit" as recommended by parenting and credible sites, and observed some things that I had questions about with management. I emailed them and didn't get a response for one week. The reasoning behind the late response was vacation, which was not relayed to me when I called the school a few days after sending the initial email. I replied with an inquiry about the waitlist and did not hear back. It became obvious they were not interested in our little one, or are in need for applicants. Let me start by saying that there are some fantastic faculty members at this school. Mrs. Overson is a clear stand-out. She is a kind, caring, communicative, enthusiastic, and devoted Pre-K teacher. She is incredible at getting kids excited about learning and keeping them engaged each day. Mrs. D'Costa, Miss Cindi, and several other members of the staff are also wonderful! But let me be clear - they are the only reason I am giving this school even 2 stars. The administration at this school is sub-par at best and falls far short of what you would expect based on the Primrose reputation and price tag. The Owner, Kathy Sheanh, and the school Director, Linda Baker, over promise and under deliver. The administrators at this school are disorganized, frugal, and uninterested in partnering with parents. Kathy takes a highly defensive posture to even the most benign questions and is a master at feeding parents "the standard line" without answering any real questions. Discussions with her are completely surface level. She is noticeably frugal, despite charging some of the highest prices for childcare in the area. Linda is not much better. She is also disorganized, unreceptive to parents concerns, and an unreliable communicator who has, at times, been downright dishonest. One of the biggest issues at this school is lack of communication. The staff, with some exceptions, are mostly uninformed and unempowered to answer even the simplest of questions. They always give parents the standard line, "Kathy or Linda will get back to you on that". The thing is, Kathy or Linda never actually get back to you. I rarely, if ever, got a return phone call or a response to an email without having to follow up with them multiple times. The ProCare app, which this school uses to communicate with parents, was useless as well. Messages sent on that platform typically went unanswered, and at the start of the school year the app was down, resulting in no academic information being sent to parents for approximately 2 months. At the price point Primrose charges, this is wholly unacceptable. Furthermore, the "monthly" newsletter was only sent every couple of months, and typically contained only information about COVID protocol and what events at the school were cancelled due to COVID. On the topic of COVID, I also should mention that the COVID-related protocols at this school are Draconian. No parents are allowed in the school and parents are still required to socially distance outdoors while dropping off or picking up. The children were required to wear masks outdoors until March 2022 (no, that is not a typo), during a time when public schools were no longer requiring masking indoors. The tire swing - which is a huge draw for children on the playground - was permanently closed due to the inability to socially distance. And my child and several others in the class came home on several occasions stating that they were not allowed to speak during lunch because "germs could come out of their mouths". COVID is also used as a blanket excuse for anything the school Owner and Director don't want to do. This school does not serve breakfast (just a morning snack around 10am) "because of COVID". While this makes no sense whatsoever, no further explanation was provided and you can bet your bottom dollar that the tuition was not adjusted for the removal of 1 meal per day. Additionally, throughout the 2021-2022 school year, nearly all extracurricular events on the school calendar were cancelled "due to COVID". There was no back-to-school picnic and no welcome events at the start of the school year. And perhaps the most egregious, there was NEVER an opportunity to meet my child's teacher in person. Requests to do so were denied "due to COVID". Two 15-minute Zoom calls throughout the year were all parents got. Yet another example of how parents are kept at arm's length and there is zero opportunity for partnership between parents and teachers at this school. Lastly, I would characterize the Kindergarten program as mediocre at best. The Kindergarten teacher, Ms. Perash, lacks the enthusiasm you would expect from a teacher working at a school that charges $20K a year in tuition. The only homework she assigned to Kindergarten families was to complete a reading log. We dutifully completed this for many weeks, but I noticed that at no point was there ever any sort of acknowledgment that it was being done. To be clear, I don't need a star or a pat on the back. But every now and then, my child does. And this is perhaps my biggest criticism of Ms. Perash: she displayed a complete and total lack of positive reinforcement with the children. She never wrote a single comment on any of my child's assignments. And when you're in Kindergarten, a sticker, a smiley or a "Great Job!" on your paper goes a long way. Overall, my advice is to save yourself $20K a year and a lot of frustration and GO ELSEWHERE. read more

I thought long and hard about whether or not I would write a review of Primrose School of Chantilly and my experience there, and then I recalled how much research I did before picking Primrose so I would have appreciated an honest review... so here goes! [LONG POST ALERT!] After 6 weeks I ended up withdrawing my son with immediate effect, because I was just gob smacked at how an institution that "cares" for children could be so prejudice, judgmental, condescending and down right mean to a small child and us (his parents). Let me be clear, that if you don't fit in to the 'Primrose stereotype' is then they will be clear to let your child feel singled out and unwelcomed at their school. Be on high alert, when they enroll you they are super friendly and kind, however the service/attitude almost does a 180 once you are actually in the school. When I began to experience issues with the school, and had already spoken to the Director who was unhelpful, I decided to reach out the owner Ms. Kathy who claims we should "feel free to contact us anytime" was somehow always on a call, never called back and basically didn't care to attend to a parent who wanted to speak to her to address any issues. This went on for 2 weeks straight. If you really want insight on the management of Primrose go to Glassdoor and read reviews from their teachers/staff...!! As with one of the other negative reviews indicated, the management staff of Primrose of Chantilly only care about money coming in and they really do not care if any parent has issues to be addressed. It very much an 'our way or the highway' type of atmosphere. When I really got frustrated with Primrose and expressed this, they have a 4 week notice period and I kindly put in my notice, only for Ms Linda Baker to call me and say 'well why don't you take your son out now and I will waive the 4-week notice. Hello! This child just turned 3, he is a child, so even if he was the worst child on the planet (he really isn't, he is such a sweet intelligent boy and im not just sayin that), is that a way to forcefully make us feel unwanted and during one of our conversations she even said 'I do not think your child will be successful in our school'. Mind you at this point he was only there for like 2-3 weeks. The reasons I had issues with Primrose is because they kept trying to find things that are wrong with your children rather than just letting kids adjust at their own pace. My kid who had never been in school is an only child and had just spent 16 months indoors coz of covid was told 'he may have issues because he likes to play by himself' (yea they actually called me one day to say this. Fine! Brushed it off and thought, lets just give the child time to adjust.... Another call 'your child screamed in the class' (he is 3!) but OK, I looked into it tried to ask what triggered this and of course nothing on Primrose's end I guess my child just randomly screams. Hmm OK. On a different day, I was waiting in the drop off line with my child, there was another child who saw my son and for the whole time while we waited in line, pointed and called him 'the screaming boy' of course kids are kids and they say all sorts, I mentioned this to Ms. Baker just to make sure that there is no name-calling in class because this could be one reason why my child feels sad in school... her response was 'well the other children aren't wrong, he was screaming!' OK, so I guess its OK to tease him for that right? Hmm... So since Ms. Bakers first few calls to me, it now turned into a daily phone calls to download a long laundry list of ALL things wrong with my child and how he desperately needs to see a pediatrician because he has 'behavioral issues'. So I did call his doctors explain the situation and the doctor told me 'ma'am I don't want to take your money for something that's unnecessary and Im going to tell you upfront that your son is perfectly fine and if I were you, I would take him out of that school if this is how they treat him'. So fast forward to now, my son is enrolled in a new school which I made sure has cameras because I wanted to observe for myself how he was behaving and there since his first day there have been zero issues. My son is thriving, the teachers love and nurture him and he loves them and is ALWAYS excited to go to school each day! Not once have I seen him scream, not follow instructions or exhibit ANY of the behaviors that Ms. Baker used to call me about which just leads to realize that this school is VERY prejudice and have no shame in singling out a small innocent child to make them feel unwanted/unwelcomed, but because they don't want him in their school. As new parents, we were initially worried about sending our six months old to daycare, but Primrose Chantilly made things a billion times easier for us. Our child's teachers, Ms. T and Mrs. S are amazing professionals with the heart and passion for children! They put an extreme level of detail in educating and caring for the children. They kept us updated regularly throughout the day. They strictly followed our child's feeding and changing schedules. They did not miss a thing! We couldn't be happier that we made the switch to Primrose. We had our 5 year old in another local pre-k (which cost the same as Primrose) and weren't happy with the program. After a short time, we switched to Primrose and couldn't be happier. We simply didn't know what we were missing until we joined the Primrose family. Our son has had a wonderful experience at Primrose School of Chantilly. We have enrolled him here since he was 3 months old, and has continued sending him here for the past 5 years. It is a bittersweet feeling that he will be graduating soon, but we will definitely miss all the teachers and staff who are attentive and caring. When searching for a daycare/school prior to our son being born, what convinced me that Primrose (Chantilly) was the best option out of all others was definetly how clean the school was. The teachers also know all the kids names and they have a great curriculum. After only a few months we could tell the difference in our son's development. Fast forward a few years, I was also very appreciative of how serious the school took Covid. I'm glad that they took a lot of preparations and precautions to ensure a safe environment for all the children. In addition, the school is a peanut free facility which was very important for us as our son has a severe peanut allergy. Overall, for any parents seeking for a great school for your child to grow in, I would recommend Primrose School of Chantilly. I would also recommend doing a tour of the school to see for yourself if it's a fit for what you are looking for and your needs, as every parents' priority is a bit different. For me it was cleanliness, curriculum and nice teachers. I don't have any cons for the school, except they may take a while to respond to emails sometimes and you would need to follow up. We enrolled our son at 8 weeks and will soon be leaving to move across the country, nearly a year and a half later. Primrose has been a wonderful experience. We looked at a number of daycare's before choosing Primrose. Now that we're moving, we have an opportunity to once again shop for daycare's and it is proving very difficult to find anything at all like we are used to. Kathy, the owner, is wonderful as are all of her teachers. The hours are great. The building is always immaculately clean. The application (tadpoles) is incredible, and we get many daily updates demonstrating just how good a time our son has.We'll miss this daycare! read more

I'd like to preface this by saying I'm not one to normally write reviews. But we've been so happy with Primrose Chantilly, I felt led to share about our experience so far. We are very familiar with Primrose schools and have always loved the curriculum and their philosophy and were so excited when the Chantilly school finally opened mainly because of the proximity. What really makes this school truly stand out however is the owner. Kathy is absolutely phenomenal. She is warm, welcoming, consistent, genuine, passionate, loving and extremely dedicated. You rarely see the owner at the school from the moment the school opens until they close, and Kathy is always there communicating with the parents & teachers and making sure everything is running smoothly. As a working mom, I think you always feel guilty leaving your children with someone else but I have to say, leaving them has gotten much easier knowing that they're in great hands. My 2 children have been thriving since we started and they really seem genuinely happy. My 4 yr old son tells me he wants to go to school everyday! I feel at ease at work because we get updates throughout the day and we love reading the detailed daily reports after we pick them up because it tells us everything we need to know about their day. I know with any business you can't have unrealistic expectations, but I really do feel like this school is as good as it gets if you're looking for top-notch, highest quality childcare where children feel safe, intellectually stimulated and loved. December 2016 my wife and I welcomed a beautiful baby girl Sareena. After we exhausted our respective maternity/paternity leaves we were left wondering who would we trust to watch and care for our new bundle of joy after we returned to work. Luckily we didn't have to look very far - Primrose School of Chantilly was literally down the street from us. We enrolled Sareena hoping that we had made the right decision (Primrose's leadership Kathy and Kate were outstanding in easing our fears and concerns). Almost immediately after placing Sareena under Primrose's care and watch - any premature apprehensions we might've had dissipated. In addition to their leadership, Primrose's teachers are second to NONE. They are truly the world's greatest people in our humble opinion (special thanks to Miss Gloria and all of Sareena's other teachers to date). When we drop our daughter off every morning we do so knowing she has an army of loving moms watching over her, teaching her and preparing her for the future. Run fast if your child has food allergies!! Great staff but owner and staff over promise and under deliver when it comes to older infant class. They lost a key teacher and when my child was in there she would get constantly bit and it was because the teachers were not trained enough to manage class. Kids were constantly fighting, misbehaving, the school owner did nothing about this. Since they state that outside food is not "Allowed" in even though other primrose allow outside food in, my daughter was constantly left hungry and there was nothing I could do, being a single mom I choose this location out of convience. Primrose School of Chantilly is hands down the best school/daycare in this area for little kids. Our toddler started at Primrose about 7 months ago. We were very nervous because he had never been to any kind of daycare and was home with a nanny. One of the reasons we chose Primrose, apart from the impressive facilities and excellent curriculum, was that during the school tour, the owner, Kathy Sheanh, had told us that their policy was to never leave a child to cry by himself. She said their teachers would do everything possible to soothe and comfort him so that he could form a bond with them and rely on them. ( However, if a parent did not want the child to be carried etc, the School would respect their wishes as well) When my son started he, of course, cried all day that first week. However, he was not left alone in one corner to cry, but every staff member, from the teachers to the office manager and chef, and Kathy herself, carried him, walked him around, talked to him and made him feel at home there. The crying gradually went down, he started enjoying school and by the end of the first month, there were no tears when leaving home or at drop-offs. Now he wants to go there even on the weekends!! My son has blossomed and come out of his shell after going there. He loves his school, his teachers and all his friends there. Primrose has an excellent balanced leaning plan that we feel is a leg over any Montessori or traditional curriculum based schools in our area. They encourage learning through play and music and the teachers also guide the children so that they get the opportunity to learn everything that the school has to offer. They also do a lot of fun stuff like holiday parties, parades, dance presentations by the kids for parents and Cookie Fridays (a big hit with both parents and children :-)) The building and the facilities are impressive and well maintained. The teachers and staff keep the classrooms as clean as possible with messy toddlers around. We are very happy with the school and would definitely recommend it to other parents looking for a curriculum based daycare where children learn, develop their characters and still have a lot of fun! read more

There is no place other than Primrose Chantilly that I would like for my daughter to spend her time each day. It is clearly evident the amount of love and care they put into everything they do! The facility is pristine. It is always spotless and I know the care they take in maintaining the property is so that my daughter, along with all of the other children, will remain healthy and safe. Each Sunday, we are emailed the lesson plans and meals for the upcoming week. I love to be able to see what my daughter will be learning and exploring each day. The activities are all hands on and the children are engaged in what they are doing. For instance, when exploring matter they actually work with liquids and solids, watching water freeze and melt. They do experiments where the children are acting as scientists! My daughter comes home and recreates the experiments they do in school each day. They also spend time with pre-reading and writing skills. They foster my daughter's creativity and allow her to share her thoughts and feelings through art. They sing songs each day (which I hear over and over!) and spend time learning to sit in a circle, how to participate, take turns, and share. One of my favorite things about Primrose is that they value outside play time. Each day, my daughter plays outside, working on her gross motor and social skills. I know that the fresh air and time with friends in an unstructured manner is good for her physical and social development. The communication from Primrose is top notch. The staff is always friendly and makes you feel as if no request is too small. They know each child by name and give the children a lot of love! Each afternoon, I am emailed a "Daily Report" for my daughter. This tells me what she ate, how long she napped, what activities she engaged in, and things I can work on at home to follow up with the day's lessons. I also get multiple videos and pictures each day of my daughter and her classmates. I love to see what she is doing and how she is interacting with others when I am not there. As a working mom, these snapshots of my daughter's day are priceless! I have two kids that are much older, so we have been through many daycares. By far, Primrose Chantilly is top of the line. I know my daughter is safe, happy, and being challenged both physically and mentally. I cannot recommend Primrose Chantilly enough. Go visit, enroll your child....you will not be sorry! read more

While I was originally pleased with the care Primrose School of Chantilly provided my infant daughter, I became increasing disillusioned with the quality of care and staff responsiveness as my daughter entered the toddler program. While I attempted to work with the staff for the better part of 8 months Kathy and her team refused to make any changes or accommodations to address my concerns regarding the safety of my child in their facility due to a dairy allergy. While the facility strives for a varied and balanced menu, they do not provide the same for a child with a dairy allergy. Their menu substitutions are appalling and do not follow the principals outlined on their website and marketed by Kathy. Further, the staff will not publish a substitution menu, disclose ingredients in the food they prepare, or make ingredient lists available on their packaged products. Parents are left to guess at what their child is being served and rely on the misinformation communicated by their staff and published in the daily reports. While the school takes nut allergies very seriously, they do not apply the same rigor to a dairy allergy, although the consequences could be deadly either way. Kathy and her team promised many things over the 8 months I tried to work with them, but never delivered or followed through on their commitments.
