They did give me a quick appointment for my cat who I thought had an ear infection which was good but then I felt like I was at a used car dealership. Instead of just taking care of the problem the doctor tried to sell my husband and I on all these tests which added up to an estimated of 750.43 to 938.04!!! The tests were to see if she had any problems like thyroid. I love my cat but she is 16 years old and otherwise healthy so why go looking for problems. I almost said ok but then my husband talked some sense into me. We walked out paying 166.93 for the medicine and testing the puss from the ear (we got a free exam for new patient) but that was a circus getting the coupon online. We had to ask several times to get the 86.25 exam charge off the bill. I think 166.93 was high just for 2 types of medicine for her ear infection and testing the puss. I'll keep looking for another local vet office (not a corporation like this office is) for my 2 cats. read more

Worst service ever. Sat here for an hour - they told me to come back in 4 hours to be seen. No one else was in the office. So ridiculous. The girl at the desk, Kristi, was extremely rude and unhelpful, as well as the technician. You shouldn't employee people who are not courteous when you're having an emergency with your pet. When I brought my cat in for a mild cold she gave my cat a shot for a bacterial infection, there was little to no empathy, and they insisted on me getting my cat a rabies shot even though my cat is an indoor cat. Five-minute exam and one shot were $300.00 dollars. VCA Fairmount animal hospital is owned by the MARS Corporation. Ya know they own 800 Veterinary clinics. besides Mars hug candy operation. read more

My dog went to Fairmount animal hospital for nine years. I don't recommend them to anyone. The staff tells lies and accuse me of .making a threat to staff via phone. When the staff answer the phone. I simply just asked if Dr Lee. The girl that answered the phone if she could have the doctor call me in regards to a few concerns I have. Now it's 80 bucks to walk in the door. I had a schedule appointment scheduled for 2 days later. However I thought a few of my questions could be answered via phone. The nasty clerk that answered the phone said where you have an appointment coming up why don't you just ask those questions then. I said I should be able to ask the questions now. And they consider that to be a threat. You noticed in the pictures they have no black staff. Probably 10% of the clients are black. Warning don't take your dog to this vet. The office manager by the name of Izzy. I called in to complain she takes up for her staff so instead of it being a win-win. This is a horrible experience for me. Excellent care and staff but at a price! Unfortunately, I did not like my old vet and decided to try Fairmount. I love every vet that I have dealt with. I especially like Dr. Bailey-she saw my cat yesterday who has a tumor. She was very empathetic and reviewed the options with me and what she felt was the best course of treatment. She also saw my Cane Corso at his last visit. He is very large and my prior vet was not the best with him. Dr Bailey was wonderful! I will never take my animals anywhere else. I've been to some vets and they try to convince me to spend extra money and do unnecessary treatments. The nurses and doctors here would never do that, You can completely trust them and they sincerely want to do what is best for your animal. Whenever I called with a question or concern they always got right back to me. I recently had to put my cat to sleep here and they made the experience as easy for me as possible. They were considerate, kind, and empathetic. They had me pay first so I could just leave after it was done, instead of paying after while in tears. They made a ceramic paw print for my cat with his actual print and name on it and gift wrapped it. On top of that they sent me a sympathy card after with hand written notes from every doctor and nurse who had met us. I highly recommend this vet to everyone read more

Despite the nice new building and friendly staff I have to rate this vet a one star. Let me explain. I took my kitten in for routine vaccinations. Staff and vet were very nice. The vet tech supplied me with a sheet of paper with information on castration upon the completion of the visit. On the bottom of this sheet of paper is an advertisement for declawing your cat. The advertisement reads as follows: "The additional cost for having your pet declawed at the same time as castration is $348" When I brought this up to the vet tech I was upset. Declawing cats is a painful, inhumane and unnecessary procedure. Some states are moving to outlaw this practice. I expressed my disappointment and I told them that this makes me not want to bring my animals here. The vet tech tried to cover, telling me that only some of the practicing vets perform it, and that it is only done for "medical reasons" She went on to say that if I wanted my kitten declawed, they would probably deny me. But this didn't make sense. The paper clearly says that the cost of castration with declawing is $348. I asked her to talk to the vets and staff there and to consider taking this advertisement off of the castration information sheet and estimate they give to each client bringing in a kitten for vaccines. I don't trust this vet practice. I would like to see each vet at that practice discontinue declawing cats and sign a written statement condoning the practice. That is the only way I would ever trust this vet again. They must do it for the $$$. I am not ok with that ethically. read more

Monday the 24th of March we where walking by the lake and Bossco my 9yr old Jack Russell decided to eat fishing hook. It got lodged in his throat with fishing line hanging out of his mouth. The whole way to Fairmont Animal Hospital I held his throat so he couldn't swallow the hook. As soon as we got there the technician took Bossco to the back room. Dr. Lee had come to tell us, that they needed to use anesthesia and a tub down his throat to get it out. 30 mins later Dr. Lee informed us that after they use anesthesia and put the tub down his throat they had realized that Bossco had swallowed the hook! Dr. Lee had ensured me that feeding him cotton balls would wrap around the hook and he would process it. So I gave the ok to do so. The technician came back into the room and said "Well we feed bossco a Bunch of cotton balls." Let me remind you bossco is only a 12 pound dog. Then they sent us home and told us to watch him very carefully. I was very unsure about the idea but Dr. Lee sounded like she's done it before and new what she was talking about. Four days goes by, bossco still eating and pooping and acting fine. Saturday morning bossco ate but then became really sick puking and refused to eat anything. I had called Dr. Lee back to find out what I should do, she wanted me to bring Bossco back in to take x-rays and an evaluation. Then probably suggest surgery, that they don't do there but would refer me someone who does. I let her know that I just moved here from California and don't have another $300 for them to refer me to someone else. She told me about care credit and we booked an appointment for that next morning. I tried to get the Care Credit but got denied. In the mean time Bossco was getting worse! So instead of wasting my time I took him to the Veterinary Medical Center of CNY. I didn't call Dr. Lee's office back to let them know I wasn't coming in and of course they did not call me to check in with Bossco, when I missed my appointment. Sure enough Bossco needed surgery! They gave us the estimate for $4,000! With no money and no payment plan available .Bossco was running out of time, he was Literally dying in my arms! Lost on what to do my friends suggested to start a fund raiser for Bossco, with in hours he received so much support, But $4,000 was still out of reach. One of the Veterinary Medical Center of CNY front desk girls, Missty came into the room and heard our story and suggested that we take him home tonight and first thing in the morning to bring him to Dr. Cook at Chitienango Animal Hospital. That it would probably be half the cost. So that's what we did. Dr. Cook and the staff where great got us in first thing! The estimate was $2,000 so we agreed to do the surgery right away! Bossco had his surgery Tuesday morning. It was a lot worse than we thought. The hook was in his intestines with the fishing line rapped up in his stomach with all the cotton balls. The cotton balls where so big they were unable to enter his intestines. The pressure of the hook pulling on the cotton balls which were stuck to the fishing line cut his intestines!! So Dr. Cook had to cut out 3 1/2 inches of Bossco intestines and sew it back together. He's still in recovery and we are praying for a safe and speedy recovery. Just started with this office. I do agree I bit more expensive then most but if the service is better I'm happy to pay it. Had our first bump in the road today. Brought my two dogs in for shots to see the technician a follow up appt, as the the vet didn't want to give all the shots at once. It was my mistake I thought my appt was at 2:40, it was actually at 2:20. I was 15mins late. The front desk girl was very kind said no worries they took the 2:40 appt early so they could just flip flop appt. The technician came around the corner and took one look at us and rudely said who are they. The front desk girl explained the situation and the technician refused to see us. I tried to have them just give one shot to one of my dogs and not give the lime disease to both of them. The technician still refused. I'm pretty sure it would of taken her 5 mins to give one dog one shot. She got done with the 2:40 appt at 2:50 so was time to see my dog. As I was told appt are 20mins with the technician. I travel 35 mins to get to this appt. I get it I was late but the right customer service thing to do was to make an exception and give my one dog her one shot. They showed the ultimate compassion when having to put down my cat and one guinea pig. They provide five star care for both animals and the humans who love them. They do tend to be more expensive than some of the other local vets. If you can afford them I completely recommend them, though. I have brought my pet here and he is absolutely terrified of new people as he is a rescue and is scared of new people. The staff Dr. Guest and Dr. Bailey are wonderful. They keep you informed and are very kind and compassionate. When I had to bring my pup in to urgent care, it was very scary and even though they were concerned they walked me through what they were doing, gave me options on how to move forward and then gave me a written fee before proceeding so I knew going in what I was looking at while they were running tests. I have unfortunately had to come three times during the pandemic for my two cats. One had an allergic reaction to flea bites and the other managed to get inside the wall and had a reaction to fiberglass. I am new to Syracuse and no one would take in my kitty because it wasn't considered an emergency. Fairmount not only scheduled her in quickly but the doctor spoke to me on the phone for a long time about what could have caused the reaction as well as my options to alleviate her symptoms and preventative measures too. The staff is beyond friendly and accommodating. I've had three different vets work with me and they were all knowledgeable and patient with my many questions and concerns. I had to go twice for the after hours urgent care and even though you have to wait the process is professional and they keep you out to date throughout. I cannot recommend this animal hospital enough. Each time I had to go I knew my cats were getting very best care. I wouldn't go anywhere else! read more

I will never us them again. EVER! 5 years ago my perfectly healthy dog received a rabies vaccine from them ( at 15 years old ) , within 2 days he became so ill he couldn't lift his head up and wouldn't eat or drink. We took him back in suspecting reaction to the vaccine. We were told that wasn't possible and they need to run tests. We were then informed he had cancer and needed treatment immediately. We were given our cost options (ranging from $800- $3,500.00 ). We decided to just hydrate him for $300 ( the least expensive option we were given when we balked at $800.00 ) and bring him home and keep him comfortable. We took him to another vet for a 2nd opinion the following day, sure enough he informed us he was just having a reaction to the vaccine and did not even suspect cancer. 1 day later he was back to normal and has been in perfect health for the past 5 years. He is now 20 and old age has taken over. We are just looking to keep him comfortable now in his final days. Like a fool I called FAH to inquire about what we can do to keep him comfortable. They refused to advise us over the phone ( even after milking us for hundreds of dollars over the years for phony diagnosis' ) because he hasn't been seen there in the past year. Well, had they not tried scamming us the last time he would have been there. Avoid them. read more

I've seen both Dr. Lee and Dr. Passantino, both were awesome and caring. my dog has recently had several health issues, the office staff and doctors have both called me every few days to check on him. I wish I could give them a negative billion. Last year they did surgery on my dog knowing she was going to die in less then a month but was greedy any ways. Then I was desperate and turned to them for help when my dog was hit by a drunk driver on memorial day. I begged them for help and my dog is one and had life threatening injuries. When they found out that I did not have two thousand dollars they wheeled him back out to my car and at least helped put him in. They wouldn't even give him pain medication. But thankfully the next day CNY Animal Kingdom did not think twice they took my lil guy in and saved his life while I figured out how to pay them 3000. CNY Animal Kingdom is not just a business they have a heart unlike the heartless people at Fairmount Animal Hospital. I would encourage people to go to CNY Animal Kingdom. read more

I had brought my elderly diabetic cat Mister to be boarded at Fairmount some time ago, but I think this story needs to be told. I had told them he was a finicky eater, and that the last time I brought him in his blood work did show his diabetes was poorly regulated on his insulin dosage. I had to go out of town for ONE NIGHT unavoidably, and Fairmount assured me Mister would be monitored closely. I came back from my overnight trip and went straight to a part-time job in the morning, intending to pick up Mister after I was done with my shift. I received a call at work from my friend whose contact number the hospital had on file while I was out of town. She said Mister was very ill, and I needed to get to Fairmount right away. I was met there by Dr. Lee, who basically told me Mister had received his regular dose of insulin, and, long story short, his food was placed in his cage, but no one ever made sure he ate. So they sent him into hypoglycemia, and then locked their doors and left for the night!! My cat was comatose when someone finally found him...at death's door. Prior to my arrival they had given him something to bring his blood sugar up, and had him laying on bags of warmed water to heat up his ice-cold body. Dr. Lee said he was stable for the moment and I could take him home, to make sure he eats, and any further problems, to take him to the Emergency Veterinary Hospital on Bridge St. in Dewitt. I got no further than the highway on ramp an Mister began to seize. I rush to the Emergency hospital, where he died. Dr. Lee did not want Mister to die at their facility, because they were negligent from the get-go. That place killed my baby. Period. That's what you get for the price-gouging services. And Dr. Lee shouldn't have a Veterinary license, in my opinion. read more

Focus is no longer on service, but how many "upcharges" they can bill you for. Only one vet remains with integrity there, new staff spends more time selling new drugs than actually performing physical. Never took my cats temperature or looked in her ears or up her nose during the exam. I found a new vet for both my cat and dog with more reasonable rates and they fully disclose pricing before performing recommended services. Be cautious. read more

This hospital CARES ABOUT $ OVER CARE OF ANIMALS. Simple. They leave redundant voice mails that are condescending as though you are unaware lyme disease is a healthy risk. No kidding! Thus why I wanted my fur kid to be tested but NO, I must get an exam first because she MIGHT be positive. I only need 1 test, not to jump through hoops. They do not answer my questions when they left a voicemail with a doctor who also elongated her words like she was on reality tv. (Yes, I'm saying don't talk like you're grasping for words) I used to like Fairmount but rather than simply state its your dogs breed on why she's coughing-I was literally told she coughs because she's excited then charged me $100. Dr. Guest was my Bernese mountain dogs primary vet once he was 8 weeks old. He fell in love with her and so did i! She is AMAZING! She grew up with bernese and has a specialty with giant breed dogs. I HIGHLY recommend if you have a giant breed dog going to her. She sits and will give you the whole low down on the breed and bloat etc and goes above and beyond to give you the most information in regards to any questions you ask. I am so sad we moved out of the state and had to leave her! If we could somehow make the 3 hour drive to go to her i WOULD!!! The other staff at the hospital is good but i think dr sarah guest is the best. My pup got lymes and was really really sick and they took me in early with no appointment and got him hooked up to IV and treatments. It was so scary but i knew he was in good hands. They do give good care to the animals, but since the old office manager was replaced , they no longer like to make payment arrangements. This caused me to wait 2 weeks before I had money to take my cat in to see what was wrong with his eye. During that time my cat was in so much pain with his eye he literally scratched it out! When I asked them at Fairmount Animal Hospital if they felt guilty, they said, "NO". Come to find out he has cancer and needs to be put to sleep, so they have no time...got to go back this week with another $169 for that! I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Jennifer Bailey! We first met her during an Urgent Care visit with our elderly dog. She, and the staff provided wonderful care, and helped Skeeter back to a stable condition. Since then, we have moved our other family dog, a much younger fella', also with Dr. Bailey. She discovered a mass in his rectum, we had the surgical procedure done, and he too, is on his way back to good health! Super stylish and comfy clinic but the cost has been passed down to the clientele in a big way. I love this practice but it is very expensive even for routine care. On another note Dr. Bailey is awesome. She's great with pets and pet owners alike and she treats all of us like we're old friends of hers. I remember when I had to put my Maizie's down a year ago and Dr. Bailey cried right along side with me as though Maizie was her cat too. She's such a caring doctor. I recently got an 8 week old lab mix puppy from a foster home. He comes from a litter of 9- found in a ditch! Of course, the whole litter had some skin problems, just minor bacterial issues. We made an appointment almost immediately to make sure nothing else was wrong! We were booked with Dr. Sarah Logan. Upon arrival, we were greeted by very nice and upbeat receptionists! Filled out some paperwork since it was our first time there, enjoyed some complimentary coffee, and didn't have to wait long before we were called! Dominique was the first one who attended to us, asking some questions about Sebastian (our pup) and seeing if we had any questions/concerns. Polite and kind! A little while after, Dr. Sarah Logan came in. Gentle with Sebastian, addressed all of our concerns, and fully explained all the vaccines/future visits as Sebastian grows and gets bigger! We were even given a little packet outlining all future visits, what will be done, and the pricing. Sebastian did still have a little bit of an infection, but we were prescribed some meds and he's doing just fine on them! Very happy with the evident care put into these vets' work, and I'm comfortable knowing that Sebastian has such a competent set of staff to look after him in the future.
