The park currently has construction going on right in front of the entrance and is nestled between 2 neighborhoods. There is a huge ditch with running water running down the center of the park. Good luck if you get a ball in there. The park has two bridges that cross over the ditch. There is is running trail that runs through and another one that runs in front of the park. The one in front is longer. The one in the park looks like it just connects the two neighborhoods. The park has ample parking available in its private lot. Fun fact: The park serves as the southern border for the Tracy Trail System. There is a playground that consists of a small jungle gym contraption with a couple of slides coming out from it. The other playground has a larger jungle gym and some swings. The equipment is a bit older, but in good repair and well maintained. The playground floor is lined with wood chips. The basketball courts are decent. All the rims have nets, and the courts are clean. They are not like the modern courts that have been popping up at new parks, but they are well maintained and get the job done. The park has seasonal hours and a seasonal restroom facility that is not operational during the winter. This is a nice park, but limited as far as what other parks offer. It is a good spot for those in the local neighborhoods to shoot some hoops or take the kids to the playground.

Because a subdivision lines both the east and west sides of the park, both sides have a playground for young kids. The East side has a shelter and grill, while the west side has a gazebo with a grill. The entrance to the park for visitors outside the neighborhood is on the eastern half. There is a spacious lot and two basketball courts laid end to end. Near the middle of the park is a permanent restroom building though it's open only during the park season. This is another great little park that serves the community…read more I'm guessing that the park is about 5 acres of mostly green space with a charming upscale small playground in the center. The green space has a cement walking trail that goes around perimeter to walk dogs or push strollers or wheel chairs. There were numerous birds out during our morning visit with our granddaughter. Nice benches line the walkway. There are dog stations for pet owners to clean up after their dogs. The green space can probably be used for soccer or football practice. The playground is really nice with a climbing and play structures that are ideal for 3-7 year olds. There is a really nice little "zip" line for the kids as well. The swing sets have infant seats and special needs seats that are covered by a shaded awning. There is a soft astroturf under the structures to cushion the kid's falls. There are three covered benches to watch the kids on the playground, but they could use a few more for us grandparents. Parking is a little unusual with a single one-way parallel parking lot on the east side of the park. There is bike parking as well. There are no restroom facilities (as the other parks have in Whitestown). My granddaughter had a blast and played for over an hour. Bring some water snacks and sunscreen for the kids.

On a recent visit, I found myself needing some down time and fresh air. I stopped by Ellis Park, a key park in Danville, Indiana and a park where I used to spend quite a bit of time in my young adult years. Ellis Park is directly off U.S. 36 right as you're getting into the main strip of Danville. It's a 49-acre park with a history tracing back to 1913. At that time, the 49 acres were set aside to protect the wells that provided Danville's water. In 1971, the park was renamed for longtime park superintendent Harve Ellis. Ellis Park is along the White Lick Creek. It's perhaps most known for its historical swinging bridge, however, it has quite a few amenities - shelters, playgrounds, sports fields, restrooms, Gill Family Aquatic Center, an amphitheater, and a "train station" that also can host meetings/events. Ellis Park is a rather nice weaving together of history with quite a few contemporary upgrades. It's incredibly wooded and it's super easy to take some time and just chill out here. The park is also adjacent to the nearby Blanton House Conference and Retreat Center. I definitely love Ellis Park, though every time I visit I can't help but feel like I wish it could be spruced up even more. It's really a centerpiece for Danville and it's definitely well utilized. I've always seen quite a few people here whenever I visit, however, it definitely does still have a bit of an aged feeling. That said, it's my favorite park in Danville and it has been a nice place to decompress during my family's recent challenges.

This is a small pocket park located in Cumberland and was dedicated in 1999. It does not have a…read moredesignated parking lot. So, I was able to find a spot on the side of the road to park in and visit the park. It also does not have a bathroom, but there is a port-a-potty nearby. The park is fenced completely fenced in has a grill that is off by itself, a small patch of green space that you could play catch or have a picnic. The park has a bank of toddler/traditional/ADA swings, a small playground area with a tunnel and a medium sized jungle gym with slides, a tunnel bridge and a rock climbing wall. The equipment is in decent shape, but one of the swings is missing off of the bank. You will find a picnic tables under a shade tree and a few benches at the park, one of which overlooks the play area. The park also has a less than half basketball court with a rim that appears to be about 7 or 8 feet high. I finally found a court that I can dunk on. Anyway, the court is decent and is perfect for a little one to shoot around. It is not a very good court to run a game. In the back corner of the park you will find a small memorial to notable Cumberland residents. A ceremony honoring those citizens is held annually at the park. This is decent park, but definitely not a destination park, and is used primarily by families in the nearby neighborhoods, which explains the lack of a parking lot. It seems to be adequately maintained, but does not get a lot of use. I was teetering between at a 3.5 rating, but felt that the park was closer to a three than a 4 due to lack of amenities.

Honors Park in Cumberland is one of the town's newer parks. The playground equipment is your basic equipment - swing set, slide, stuff to climb on. While someone in a wheelchair could technically wheel to the area, this is not an accessible park. The best feature of Honors Park is its memorial monument area. The monument is engraved with the names of Honors Park honorees - the recognition honors those who've contributed to the growth and welfare of the town of Cumberland and specifically cannot include active politicians. Honors Park has the usual greenery that you'd expect. While it's not a fancy park, Cumberland takes their park areas seriously and Honors Park is no exception. It's beautifully green, well kept, and the playground equipment is in good condition. While it's far from a destination park, it's a nice neighborhood park for those in the area.

This is another city park that has been commandeered by an elementary school, in this case Stout Field Elementary School. The playground was packed with students from the school while I was there. I think it was actually worked into their schedule. Anyway, the park is relatively small and has a small parking lot. The park is about 14 acres. There is also a half decent full basketball court at the park. I have seen better and I have seen worse. The park has a small restroom facility as well. There is a huge green space with a picnic table on it there. The green space/open field can be used to play catch, soccer, football, throw a frisbee, or other outdoor activities. There is also a single shelter with picnic tables under it. The best part of the park however, is its nice paved walking trail and playground. The trail is a decent size. The park does has what appears to be a very nice splash pad. It is small but has a lot of colorful parts and things that shoot water. However, I visited the park off season and the pad was already shut down. The playground has a couple of saucer swings, a futuristic merry go round, a set of traditional swings, and an awesome jungle gym with ladders, slides, rock climbing walls, and monkey bars. It is very nice. There is a small jungle gym for the smaller kids that is shaped like a truck and has a cargo net and a couple of slides. You will find benches that parents can sit and watch while their kids play in this area. The playground is lined with wood chips and as an added bonus they have a musical instrument piece of equipment with blue congos, shakes and other instruments There is also an electronic game (NEOS) that kids can play that has them running around chasing lights. It is programmed with 8 different game modes. The park has some gym equipment by the playground area. There are a few pieces, not much, like an elliptical, chest press, and a lat pull. It is a decent park, especially when the neighboring school is out. It is well maintained and the grounds are well kept. The littles really enjoyed it. It is very accessible an open.

I'd recommend showing up with rubber gloves and a trash bag if you don't like you're kids playing around a lot of trash. The restrooms were locked. That's disappointing since it's well after May 1 when they should be open. Also, note the park is located next door to a public school, so it's constantly inundated with classes at recess. My kids love that, but it's worth noting if you're looking for a quiet spot to play. We will go back, but when schools aren't in session, and prepared to pick up trash in a sanitary fashion prior to playing.

Right next to that area is a bigger jungles gym for older kids (it did not intimidate my 2 year old though). It has a barn yard them and has a bunch of slides and bridges and stairs. In that area you will also find a maze, sit and spins, a bank of traditional settings and rocking animals. The shelter, which can be rented, is right by the larger kid play area and has picnic tables under it and a grill right outside of it. The shelter also has a wood over inside of it. It is a very nice shelter. There are 8 very nice pickle ball courts here. Four on each side, divided by a semi-covered sitting/waiting/spectating area. The courts were very busy. The park is home to 4 lighted baseball fields. The fields are very nice and they were having some little league girls games going on while I was there. Good luck finding a parking spot when they have baseball or softball going on. There were a good amount of spots near the playground area though. Even though they are not officially part of the park, there a some tennis courts, that belong to Plainfield Community Middle School, which borders the backside of the park. They were open while I was there and are pretty well maintained. This park has pockets of green space that can be used to toss a ball, have a picnic, run around, or have a football/soccer game. And as an added bonus, even though the park does not have a designated trail, it does have some pretty good paved paths that can be put together to get a decent walk or run in. This is not your newest park, but it is a very good traditional park with a lot of amenities. It is a solid park that the little ones will enjoy for hours.

There is a bunch of street parking across the street from the park and there is also parking available in the park's family center parking lot. It is 21 acres and has not been updated since it was constructed in 1931. It was originally called Northwestern Park. The park was the home field of the Indianapolis ABCs, the city's Negro National League team, back in the 1920's. The park was named after Charles T.H. Watkins, a remarkable community leader and a pastor at the historic A.M.E. Bethel Church. The park has 2 horse shoe pits, or at least areas formally known as horseshoe pits. The pits are overrun by grass, leaves and weeds and they do not have the post you throw the horseshoes on. The playground has some outdated equipment that includes traditional swings, a net climbing pyramid, a regular net climb and a jungles gym with slides. The equipment is pretty old/worn, as I mentioned. The playground area is lined with wood chips. There are two tennis courts at the park, but one of the court's net is missing. The court was packed with leaves and in desperate need of repair. You must really need to satisfy your tennis fix if you play on this court. There are also two basketball courts. They both have some decent rims, and backboards, but the court themselves are in desperate need of repair. You will find a picnic shelter here with picnic tables under it and a few picnic tables under a tree. The green space and fields are horrible. They are asking for ankles to be broken. it is very uneven and hard. It has so many divots. There is a field with football uprights on each end a two fields with backstops. As I mentioned though, I would make sure I was up on my health insurance if I played there. Lastly, there is a hopscotch area near the family center. It looked pretty good as far as hopscotch goes. It look relatively new. The city really needs to invest some money in this park and give it some much needed updates. It definitely has potential, but I would avoid this park if possible as it is now.

There are two horse shoe courts that fit in among the trees on the southeast corner of the park. There also appears to be some raised beds for plantings on the north side of the parking lot. There are 6-8 covered picnic tables to use out of the sun. There's also a few bike racks, park benches and an indoor bathroom. I'm not sure I'd let the kids go in, but it's there. Visit in a hot day to run out some energy and cool off on those super sunny days! It's never really packed and the water is controlled by pushing the button to start. Kids love it!

Behind the play area is some small green space where you can play some stuff like catch, kick a soccer ball or a small game of football. Like I said, the area is small. There is a half decent walk path at the park, but it is also small and not really good for working out or getting your steps in. There is a also a picnic shelter with picnic tables under it and a grill right out side of it. Near the front of the park is where you will find the small unisex restroom facility. It is not open during the winter though. There is free street parking in front of the park and along adjacent streets that are within reasonable walking distance. This park could use a little investment. It has potential but is a bit outdated. It is not a bad park if you live within walking distance from it. Otherwise, I would not travel here just for this.
