Over the holidays…read moreI was lucky enough to see the performance of A Cool Yule - Christmas Spectacular and most recently I attended their Black History Month show. They are celebrating 18 years of excellence here in Las Vegas. Both shows were incredible and the dancers talent was phenomenal. The company was formed in 2007 with Bernard Gaddis and Charmaine Hunter. They offer so much in terms of dance styles. Some of their numbers are choreographed by well- renowned artists like Alvin Ailey and other famous choreographers. Their director Bernard Gaddis also contributes new and exciting works. Mr. Gaddis himself has had a wonderful career in dance including being a principal dancer for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater for seven years and was mentored by Ms. Judith Jamison the artistic director. This is just a small bit of information about this inspirational director's career. He has done so much more. All of the dancers are well trained and very powerful. I was particularly impressed with the Black History Month performance. The house was filled and all of the attendees really enjoyed the show ending with a standing ovation. I was saddened to hear the company will be moving to Philadelphia as this city will be providing more financial support for this company. I wish our city would do more to support arts and culture. They will still provide performances here in Las Vegas. I am looking forward to their next performance which will be in May. Ticket prices are $20 so very reasonable to spend an afternoon or evening enjoying a show. If you have an opportunity I highly recommend attending one of their performances.

That one performance was enough to hook me on this company and I have been attending ever since. Most of their shows are free for the public and the performances take place over three days--Friday, Saturday, and Sunday matinée. In 2008, the company was known as the Las Vegas Contemporary Dance Theatre. Within the last few years, the company changed their name to the Contemporary West Dance Theatre. Sometimes they do works that were choreographed by famous people. Most of the time, they do work choreographed for them. They also do work that the founder/director of the company, Bernard Gaddis, has choreographed. Seeing original works like this is what makes their shows exciting and something which takes you into a different world. For example, the opening number was a world première of "The Art of War" by Mr. Gaddis. It was magnificent! For this Spring series, there were two guest choreographers--James Jeon and Avree Walker. Jeon's "Untitled" and Walker's "Nina" were both excellent! It's always an enjoyable experience. Do take the opportunity to go and see a show the next time around.

I've booked Mahana multiple times over the years, and they never fail to impress. Most recently, I hired them for a family birthday party, and they took the celebration to the next level! Even with just two weeks' notice, the booking process was quick and seamless. Sunny and Sam were incredibly professional, responsive, and made sure every detail matched my vision. On the day of the event, the hula dancers arrived promptly, fully prepared, and ready to perform. The energy, skill, and vibrant Polynesian spirit they brought were simply unforgettable. We then found out that he used to dance with Madonna and other big artists back in the day so we had to give him a try. I took my nephew and niece here a few months ago and they came back home to Hawaii with a bunch of new dance moves and said going to the dance class with Oliver was their favorite part of the trip! Oliver is a great teacher and the kids loved him so much that they gave him the nickname "Dancing Cookie Monster". Thank you Oliver and Musicology for making our trip, it will always be remembered ! If we ever go back to Vegas we will for sure be back!!!

I recently had the pleasure of attending her performance, and I was incredibly proud. To see her journey from a complete beginner to successfully performing three separate dances was a truly special moment. A special thank you to Ms. Wan Yi and all the dedicated dancers at the studio for their incredible support and excellent instruction. It's clear that their focus is on nurturing true talent and a love for dance. This is not viable for older family members. There is plenty of space out of the way where family members could observe in the studio but they are not allowed to utilize it. If you are just looking for a babysitter where you can drop your kids off and pick them up later then it is the place for you. If you want to actually watch your family member grow as a dancer then I would personally look somewhere else.

One day a pick up an teenage boy came and told us another kid had pushed my kid into the water fountain and was bleeding. We went to the dentist and the teeth were dead and they had to pull them. We are going on 4 years with no front teeth because of this place! The instructors weren't going to tell us or say anything. I wasn't going to sue them because I figured accidents happen. They were definitely irresponsible in how they handled it. I didn't realize how long the front teeth were going to take to grow in though. I'm regretting not getting a lawyer at the time.

The instructors were so patient with us and helpful through a hearty 1.5 hour class! We got to learn on all sorts of aerial equipment and I didn't break anything! The owner on the phone told me too bad I am not his customer so there is nothing he can do. Yet he collects money from the instructor and I go to his studio for classes. The studio needs to take responsibility for allowing shady instructors to promote themselves at this studio. The owner kept saying I am not his customer yet I go to his studio for classes and socials. I won't go there again.
