A Twisted Christmas Carol; Review Newport Playhouse Dec 1,…read more2025 Complicated. Not the play but the fact I and others, enjoying 3 days in Newport RI in a tour group, were basically a captive audience. "Dinner and a show" is how our itinerary put it. We ate a decent meal in the dining area and then all traipsed upstairs into this cozy little theatre. The stage was more than a proscenium because it projected out, bringing the actors into a more intimate relationship to the audience. (Just a note here: The seats were comfortable but the seat in front of you - seat pitch - was abysmally close. After 3/4 of an hour my knees began to hurt badly.) The play is a loose take on Dickens' Christmas Carol, with a 'Christmas past/Christmas present/Christmas future' structure. All action takes place in a small barbecue pub in west Texas. The proprietor (John Brennan), a grossly insensitive husband to his partner wife (Cass Caduto), is concerned for his business which is sliding downhill. Advice and antics from his live-in customer (Kol Daniel Cross) are scant help. The action unfolds with the help of a former employee (Rosa Nguyen) and the proprietor's former business partner (Matt Goldstein) who stole his barbecue sauce recipe years ago and has profited from it. Oh yes, that business partner is also the wife's former romantic partner, uh-oh. I could not find the author's name for this play. I suspect it was locally written by one or another of the actors or production staff. Maybe it was like a "Oh, we gotta put something together for our Christmas show" collaboration. The script produced a few jarring moments, as when the proprietor who has been in an accident and comatose in the hospital being visited by Christmas ghosts suddenly returns in full health. But the actors clearly enjoyed putting this on. The audience laughed and I think had fun watching although a few may not have had much experience with live performances. At the conclusion they started to leave and were surprised when the actors came out for a curtain-call bow. Ouch!

The food has gone down hill. The chicken was very dry. The food was warm not hot. They should…read morechange up the menu a little. We have been coming here for long time. Also they should lighten up the colors inside the black is too dark. I am not criticizing I want the playhouse to succeed and since they are making changes it is just suggestion. The Cabaret was awesome funny. No tell motel was a fun play the actors were excellent but the play could have bee shorter.

I just got back into this after a little hiatus. Amanda just opened a new facility in East…read moreGreenwich two weeks ago and it is AWESOME! Such a beautiful new space with lots of silks (so you don't have to wait long for your turn even in a bigger class) and lots more class times. I love the artwork she had painted on the wall. It makes a great backdrop for pictures! I showed my boyfriend a picture from my first class back and he said, "WHOA, it looks like you're doing some kind of kung fu!" Classes with Amanda have always been great. She's an experienced teacher and she can teach you skills fast - you'll be up in the air before you know it. It's not easy and not for the faint of heart, but boy is it fun. And it makes you super strong. There are adult class for beginners, intermediate, and advanced, every night of the week. My friends always ask if this is like the aerial yoga they have in Cranston, and I tell them "not really!" Aerial yoga is basically the bastard child of yoga and aerial silks. I love yoga, and I love silks, but so far I haven't tried to combine them. If you want the REAL aerial experience, if you want to actually get up high in the air, this is the place to come! They're offering free trial classes for the month of February at the new East Greenwich facility, so there's no reason not to try it. At least you can say that you tried it once! But look out, it's addicting....

I have gotten totally and completely addicted to aerial silks/tissues. I have had about 4 or 5…read moresemi-private lessons and 3 private lessons all with Amanda. Amanda is awwwe, wait for it, some. I love her style of teaching/coaching. Every time I leave I walk away feeling completely empowered and eager for my next lesson. I'm really truly going to miss Amanda when I move back to Portland, Oregon. I don't know how anyone will be able to measure up.

I cant say enough about AJ and Hammer and Stain in North Kingstown. We had the absolute best time…read moreat my daughter's 8th birthday 'art' party! AJ was amazing with the kids, guiding them through exciting art activities with so much patience and enthusiasm. She was able to keep a large party of 16 kids engaged even though the age group was a tad on the younger side. One of the coolest parts? AJ even took music requests! The kids got to rock out to Taylor Swift while they painted, crafted, and danced around--it added such a fun, lively vibe to the whole party . We also found out she has a Taylor Swift summer camp posted. The space was bright, colorful, and perfectly set up for little artists to let their imaginations run wild. There's even a Moms' night out option where you can bring your favorite cheese platter! Every child left with their own artwork and a huge smile on their face. It was the kind of party they'll be talking about for weeks. If you're looking for something creative, engaging, and truly joyful for your child's next celebration, we can't recommend AJ at Hammer Stain in North Kingstown enough!

My daughter changed her prepurchased item last minute and the owner was very accommodating. Was a really nice/relaxing time. Would like to go back after being able to explore the store....they teach/do large knitting, custom signs (and its easier than I thought), pottery and more. Great for kids, girls (or guys) night out, or even a team building event!

It takes me roughly 20 minutes driving from TF Green to this place on a Wednesday afternoon. It is pretty easy to miss at night since it's not very well lit and the parking lot could use some work. The place inside though is very well lit with a large Studio A and a slightly smaller Studio B. As far as I know both of the Studios are the same setup with a mirror wall, a bathroom, a disco ball, and a very good sound system that will make anybody deaf. The receptionist is a a nice lady that takes care of payments and keeping track of people taking classes. This place is primarily focused on ballet, but they do offer boot camp as well as my favorite - Zumba! Price for these classes run $8 each but get 4 or more and they're $5 which isn't too bad. My favorite Zumba instructor Sue Dorne (who got me hooked on this workout craze!) teaches here who holds classes on Monday @ 10 am and Wed @ 7 pm. She always brings a cheerful smile and plenty of energy to each class I've had with her. I definitely find the one hour class flying by moving non-stop through all her music routines. When she's on a roll she can definitely make you work up a sweat trying to keep up, but she's also great at slowing down and demonstrating the steps to every new beat. Definitely a great class and it's frequently packed. Mainly women take this class which doesn't bother me one bit since all I'm there for is the great workout each and every time! Tip: Bring a full bottle of water and be prepared to move and listen to some great dancing music :)
