Went to Stagger last night with friends and have to say they probably have one of the worst bartenders of all time. Bartenders at the very least should have a good personality. Great pub food, prepared well, and lots of it. Quick service, plenty of return attention. Interior, exterior, and especially the ceiling needs help from a vacuum cleaner, scrub brush, and paint. Avoid the restroom if possible. This place could be a cool dive if they'd clean, repair, and renew, but now it's just a dumpy crappy dive. I'd never bring guests here. Unfortunately, the filth casts a pall on the question: "How Clean Can the Kitchen Be?" Which is too bad, because they really can cook! Owners, wake up!!!! read more

This is also on my list of places i try to go to when i find myself around Edwardsville. Many a night of drunken revelry have taken place at this dingy dive. Stagger is more than a dive tho. They offer a good selection of beers, late night chow, lots of live, local music, open mic nights, and bartenders that can be both endearing and abrasive (but the abrasiveness only adds to the charm of this place). The Stagger Inn has personality for sure. Perhaps it's how you frame this place in your mind. It's not quite a dive; it's not just a pub; it's more than a restaurant and concert venue. To me, Stagger is a place to feel at ease. It's a place where i'll always see a familiar face or two. It's a hatchery of ideas and schemes. It's a congregation of open minded people. I've had some of the best times of my life with my favorite people in this place. I've given a lot of time and money to the Stagger Inn but I wouldn't take any of it back for a second. read more

I've been here a few times when I've been back at home from Chicago. I fell in love when I discovered it had Magic Hat #9! One of my all-time favorite beers. Granted it's not as good in a bottle as the draugh is, but what beer really is? The live music is pretty good too and the crowd isn't sketchy. read more

The Stagger Inn is a hot nightspot in Edwardsville, IL. People from the surrounding areas flock here for the Stagger Inn's delicious diveness. Seriously, the atmosphere is very fun. And it's a good, loud place to see a band play. But despite all this atmosphere, this night-time fun, I like to go to the Stagger for lunch. Why? Because the food is awesome. There is a rumor that the food at the Stagger is cooked by local area culinary students; I believe it. The specials at the Stagger are a must (and some of the menu staples are good, too) and you won't be disappointed by them. I've been here twice. After the first time, I vowed to never return, but I got sucked into returning once more, and that time, I actually didn't mind it so much. The first time the only seating we could find was at the back of the building and under maybe an air conditioner unit...but it didn't look like one. That is my only guess b/c it was hot outside and whatever we were setting under at our table was dripping from the ceiling onto us. Both times I was here I would say they played live music that fits the Rock and Roll and Bluegrass genres. I never get beer, only mixed drinks if I do drink so I ordered an amaretto stoned sour. It's only three ingredients, four if you include the cherry on top, so I'm still confused as to how it turned out so badly. The second time I came here, we found seating and actually got a shot at the shuffleboard. It's hard to get dibs on this, so I was excited we actually got a chance to play. Just like the first time, there was rock and roll and bluegrass music and the same type of older aged women (65ish?) dancing by themselves to the music. I think there is a $2-4 dollar cover depending on when you go. There are a few patio seats and chairs outside the front door, and I would give this place three stars over all. If I returned, it would be to people watch or play shuffle board with a few friends. read more

Great bar to get some cheap beers and listen to good live sets. When the University is in session it can get a little crowded and hard to get to the bar, but most of the time it's a chill spot. Also, this is a classic bar, so don't expect specialty drinks or fancy presentation. Regardless, the prices are right and food is pretty spot-on for lunch and late nights. I do have to agree with another commenter that the staff can tend to cater regulars over typical customers, but I can't say I blame them for it. However, that's only a problem when it's really crowded at night (past 11). Lunch and evenings the service is great. read more

A good neighborhood bar with a divey feel. The food is good & the beer selection is good. Generally, there's a decent-to-great band playing on the weekends, which is nice. The service is good, fast, and generally courteous, but you have to understand that no one is going to go the extra mile to kiss your *ss, and there's nothing wrong with that. The food was good, you order from the window but don't forget to get a ticket from them (the kitchen window) because you have to pay for your food at the bar. Received terrible service from the bartender a few nights ago. When I called that evening to complain (which I never do - I usually give places/people the benefit of the doubt for one bad experience), I'm sure it was the same lovely gentleman who answered the phone, responded, "okay, well I really don't give a s***," and hung up on me. Probably the best bar food in town, but only serves food 4 evenings per week. We like the place and go there often.
