    Stan The Man Statue
    Steven B.

Meet me in Saint Louie, Louie, Meet Me At The Fair........ When meeting friends for a baseball game in St. Louis you say, "Meet me at the Stan statue". For 45 years, when Cardinal fans are meeting up with friends or family before or after a game, the logical place to meet is, The Stan Musial Statue. It is conveniently located at Gate 3, the Third Base entrance on Spruce Street. It is a huge bronze statue that doesn't look anything like him. It doesn't have his right batting stance and the bat isn't proportionate to the statue itself. There's been talk of replacing it, but it most likely will never happen. We love our Stan just the way he is and Stan himself defended the artist when people would criticize the statue. This statue is not only a great meeting place when attending a Cardinal baseball game, but it is a tribute to one if not THE greatest players in Cardinal history. He played outfield and 1st Base with our team for 22 seasons, 1941-1963. In 1969 he was elected in to the Hall of Fame on the first ballot with an amazing 93% vote. So the next time you are meeting friends at the ballgame, tell them you'll be the one in RED and have them meet you at "The Man" and bring home a winner.

Of all of the ballparks in sports that I've been to, three statues of legendary athletes stand out: Michael Jordan in Chicago, Willie Mays in San Francisco, and this one of Stan Musial. Upon approaching and observing this statue for the very first time, you see the words of former MLB commissioner Ford Frick: "Here stands baseball's perfect warrior. Here stands baseball's perfect knight." For any fan of baseball, seeing this tribute kind of sends chills up your spine when you observe the Stan Musial statue. Not withstanding a few of his Hall of Fame career snippets of 3 NL MVPs, 24 All-Star game appearances, 7- NL batting titles, 475 home runs, 3,630 career hits and a lifetime batting average of .331, Stan Musial really was "The Man" in terms of what he meant to the city of St. Louis with his business ventures and role as baseball ambassador until his death in 2013. Stan was still "The Man" with his heroic service during WWII and subsequent comeback to baseball afterwards. Stan kept being "The Man" with his devotion to wife Lillian for nearly 72 years. And despite never having seen him play in person, Stan was "The Man" to me in terms of his positive encouragement toward African-American ballplayers throughout his career when it was unpopular to do so at the time. For us kids in little league, Stan Musial was a larger-than-life figure whose name has been spoken in the same breath as Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Willie Mays and Hank Aaron. The Musial statue, with its size, towers over those of the other Cardinals Hall of Famers in the Busch Stadium plaza (Rogers Hornsby, Enos Slaughter, Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, Ozzie Smith in naming a few), and rightfully so. It is a name that has been spoken with reverence, and respect even today, more than 50 years after his final game in 1963. This statue, located in the front of Busch Stadium on 8th Street, is a fitting tribute to a ballplayer that represented all that was good with major league baseball, as well as the city of St. Louis. With the exception of Willie Mays (I'm a Giants fan, FYI), Stan Musial was the National League's greatest player and an icon of St. Louis. This statue is not just a must-see for Cardinals fans, but for any fan of the game of baseball. A remarkable monument for a remarkable man.

I think I had forgot just how many different holes and paths you could take. They've also added more stuff than I remember. They had a section roped off because they're adding yet another section. I wasn't sure I'd enjoy the place as much this time around but I did. This is a must-visit when in StL but be warned, you will be tired after playing on this adult playground. The only annoyance this time is that I seem to remember that you could pay one price and get everything. This time, there was the general ticket that gives you access to 3 floors but no roof access. No pinball access. You have to pay extra for those two things. I guess extra charges make sense but just wrap the price all in one. I feel like the floors and roof should be in one ticket. There were a few times that employees came out on the roof to run people off that didn't have the appropriate color of bracelet. If you love having fun, definitely do this when visiting StL.

Definitely whenever someone mentions St Louis or anything that I associate with St Louis. It's my favorite place in the world. I think another reviewer recommended wearing closed toe-shoes, comfortable clothing that you can move in - preferably long pants - as long as they have good pockets, because you don't want to be carrying a purse or bag. This is important. If you have a fear of heights - the City Museum might make you forget that you have a fear of heights. Because it made me forget that I do. I was climbing everywhere. It's amazing. I know how to weld, and all the welds look great and are finished smoothly so you don't get scratched or snagged. Impressive! We went there once when our daughter was 6, and again when she was 21, and I can definitely say that I had a better time when she was older (even though, obviously, I was significantly older as well). Because it does seem a little not-safe if you have a little kid with you. But even then I had absolutely loved it. I live 8 hours away but would literally clear my schedule for the next couple days, anytime, if someone wanted me to go there with them. Just let me grab my sneakers and joggers and I'm ready!

Ok heights terrify me !…read more Somehow I managed to convince myself after watching a you tube video that I could do the tram ride to the top and I'm so happy I did ! Everything is pretty organized overall. We purchased our tickets , went through security , visited the museum and the gift shop before or tram started to load . It's does take about an hour for this whole process on a weekend . The tram itself isn't scary at all - the small window doesn't face anything that'll freak you out and your time at the top is limited ( so others can have their moment) so you're not up there long at all. This place is huge and yes there's also a cafe you can grab a bite at while waiting . Restrooms are extremely clean and The entire experience from start to finish was fantastic. Highly recommend.

The tram ride up is one of the most unique experiences. It's weird but also a cool sensation where you're moving sideways and upward at the same time, around 3 mph. The ride down feels slightly faster for some reason. Each tram fits a maximum of 5 people (or 6 with a baby in lap), so it is a snug little pod. If you or someone in your group has claustrophobia, I wouldn't let it stop you. Some of my friends have mild claustrophobia and they were fine. The tour guides while you're waiting in line are enthusiastic and keep things fun. I appreciated them. Once you get to the top, you have about 8 to 10 minutes to take in the view through these little windows that kind of make you feel like you're looking out of a plane. The view of the river is nice and you can spot planes and ships from up there. While you're waiting for your time slot or even after, there's a really nice Missouri history museum section at the entrance worth browsing through. Don't skip the gift shop, it's worth a quick stop. The grounds under the arch are a full park, so it's a great excuse to just be outside and enjoy the space. Perfect for families, friends, or anyone who wants a fun and easy way to spend some time in the city.

The artwork shows Geppetto, the well-known carpenter from the Pinocchio story, holding a hammer above the puppet's head. At first, it might look playful or cartoon-like, but the scene feels more complicated the longer you look. Is Geppetto angry, or is he about to bring Pinocchio to life? The puppet gazes up at him with a mix of trust and worry, adding to the tension. Otterness often uses simple, familiar characters to explore deeper ideas, and this piece is no different. It makes you think about the bond between a maker and what they create - who holds the power, who gets to decide, and how care and control can overlap. It also reflects the original Pinocchio story, with its themes of honesty, identity, and the desire to become real. Completed in 2001 and placed in Citygarden by the Gateway Foundation, the sculpture stands about eight and a half feet tall. Surrounded by other modern pieces, "Kindly Geppetto" stands out for the story it tells and the emotions it stirs. [Review 1173 of 2025 - 439 in Missouri - 24726 overall]

It's actually so inspiring to see so many different artists working together, incorporating their own unique styles to create one single piece of artwork. If I took a few minutes to really take in and admire each grafitti, finishing the wall would take HOURS!
