I had an appointment at 10 am today just to go there and see that it's not even open? Website says it's open, nothing on the store saying changed hours, and I have a scheduled APPOINTMENT. not Recommend if you need your contacts asap don't come here .it's been for 4 months now I haven't recovered them, They never answer and if they do you will be put on hold , just for them to tell you your contacts will be on there way just a few more weeks . I Would rate them a 0 star if I could. I went in for an eye exam back in February and chose out the frames I wanted. They told me a 2-3 week time frame and I would receive them. Here is it now September and I have yet to receive my glasses which I paid $700 for. Every time I call the company and ask for an update it is the same answer every time. ( It is in processing stage). after 5 months of waiting I asked them to please cancel my order and they refused. They told me they would not cancel it. They then told me their reason for my glasses taking so long was because they did not have glass to fit my frame and had to send them off to have someone make them. If they cannot produce glasses within the time frame then THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE THOSE FRAMES AS AN OPTION!!! to wait 7+ months for some glasses is outrageous and not how a business should be running. I am beyond outraged and sick and tired of waiting and being told the same response when I call. By the time I even receive my glasses (if I do at all) my eyesight will have already changed. I am telling all of you right here right now, DO NOT GO TO STANDARD OPTICAL!! they are ridiculous and no help whatsoever nor do they care how long you wait for your glasses. read more

I had lasik done at the lasik center. Very happy with it. Came to the Layton location for the check up. Sat and waited for 30 minutes just to find out that the doctor went on break during my appointment time! Gave up and left. As I was leaving, I saw him walking in with a big gulp in hand. I've been using Standard Optical in the Layton Hills Mall for my eye care needs for several years now. My budget finally allowed for me to check into getting LASIK done so I did with them. Great service as always. All of the staff I've dealt with have been professional which is always nice. I have zero regrets with spending my hard earned money there. Ended up finally getting lasik surgery and had to go to the holladay location. Dr. Lloyd Williams was really good. The staff took k good care of me and the surgery went great. I ordered glasses and sunglasses from Standard using my old Versace frames for the regular glasses and buying frames from them for the sunglasses. It took a month for me to get my sunglasses. Unacceptable. When they first rang the order up it totaled over $600. I was in shock and paid it. The next morning I called to cancel my order and was told I couldn't. She did tell me they could take off all the extras like uv coating, anti scratch coating, anti glare etc. that took the total down $200. Lalani was my salesperson and she just added all those things on without telling me the prices. I would be very careful going there for glasses. On top of all that, I had insurance that was supposed to cover $250 and they didn't use it, I would not recommend anyone go there unless you watch them like a hawk. Then a month to receive my sunglasses was way too long. read more

My current employer provides optical care insurance through Opticare of Utah which only covers services at Standard Optical. I ordered three pairs of glasses over six months ago and have still not received them even though I have already paid for them. I call on a regular basis and each time they tell me that the vendor (Smith Optics) has back ordered the glasses and that they will be in soon. I called Smith Optics directly and they said they have ample stock on the shelf and could ship that day. The last time I called, they said that they had to order another customers glasses from Amazon because they could not get them from Smith Optics. Needless to say, I am frustrated and my only option at this point is to continue to wait. If I cancel the order I will miss out on the insurance benefit because they were ordered in calendar year 2016 and it is 2017 now. Hopefully this review helps other potential customers to be aware prior to placing an order with Standard Optical. read more

Went there for a routine eye exam, which was supposed to be $59.95, I was billed $157.00. I tried to resolve the issue with various employees only to be told "we can fix that for you, give me some time and I will call you back." I never heard back from anyone despite my numerous efforts to get the issue resolved. read more

Was shopping around for a good month to find a place to get lasik done. I have had glasses and contacts for a handful of years and have never liked them. My awesome wife was sick of hearing me complain about them and gave me a birthday present to get lasik done. I went to 4 different locations that offered lasik consultations. The last one I came to was Standard Optical and I was sold after sitting down with Dr. Purdy. He made me feel comfortable and relaxed. He answered all my different questions I had. I decided to move forward and get lasik done. They do the actual lasik down at the Highland Dr location in Salt Lake but the pre and post ops were at the Layton office with Dr. Purdy. Overall and awesome experience. Day 1 post surgery and I can see super well. Very pleased with my experience with Standard Optical. Price was very competitive with other locations and was actually one of the best we found. I would recommend it to all my friends and family. Thank you Standard Optical! read more

Even with my insurance, I paid several hundred dollars for bifocals. They work ok for distance but I have to take them off to read. They won't fix the problem. read more

forgot to mention that i paid the "past due" notice in pennies on the 7th of January with the saga my experience annotated on the bill, along with the business card of the Manager whom agreed to waive the $10.68, and a copy of the email i had sent to her attention enclosed with the balance due. what happens 30 day later? you guessed it- a "Final Notice" bill for that same $10.68 shows up in the mail. Contacted the store to see wtf is going on - Corey tells me its been resolved and that he was sorry for any inconvenience. Does the story end here? Who knows.... read more

Front end staff are INCREDIBLE. They seriously go above and beyond for you...however, the doctor(old guy with grey hair and goatee) is nothing short of completely unprofessional and rude. I had an appointment at noon last week for contacts. At about 12:45 he finally saw me. Yesterday I spent 25 minutes past my appointment waiting. No apology. No common decency from him. I wonder if he's aware this is a private business and he's going to lose said business if he doesn't shape up. I walked out. I'll go somewhere else to an eye doctor that doesn't have the belief he's God's gift. read more
