As one might expect from a market that takes place in a school playground it is pretty small affair. It is exclusively a food market. There are around 12 stalls selling meat, cheese, fish, vegetables and juices. In contrast to other markets there is little food to eat as you walk (pies etc.) so best to visit for staples if you live in the area. There are a good selection of quality items; the juices are particularly good. This farmer's market isn't spectacular but nonetheless sells good stuff and worth visiting if you're a local.

I recommend the tomato guy, the goat cheese, the fresh eggs, the sausages and of course the Flour Power brownie. It can get a bit crowded, especially in the summer, but it is manageable. And hit the cash machine before you go--I can easily spend 40£ here (I am a sucker for the buy 2 discount!) I wish someone would put up a good coffee/latte stand at the market! I love strolling with my morning latte and there is no good place around there for coffee. Plus every farmers market should have a good coffee stand. They only accept cash so bring plenty or face a ~£2 surcharge at the only near by cash machine in Londis. After eating be sure to wonder around the vast gardens of Alexandra palace and grab a cake at the garden centre nearby. This is my favourite nearby place to bring my dog for walks.

The minimum spend for each person is stated at £1. However you end up spending much more than that. It was the latter for me, and I couldn't feel luckier to have found such a gem. Since that day I've learned that all that fruit and veg and cheese and meat and yummmmmm that I was drooling over all comes from within 100 miles and is sold (and transported) by the growers themselves. How legit is that? Oh, and it's the first farmers' market in the UK to offer only organic and biodynamic produce? I love you. The man in the cafe, who made our latte was friendly and charming. He asked where my wife's family was from and then spoke some rudimentary Japanese with her. When a regular customer came in with his dog, Molly, the business owner sliced some meat and served it to Molly. It was obvious that while much of his business was probably transitory, he took the time to get to know his customers, even the K-9's. Oh yeah, and the latte was pretty good too!

The farm shop itself is full of both fresh farm prduce which I did find was a bit too pricely(compared to other farm shops) ..but had loads of variety in perishables and was pretty busy. The best is all these different nuts and raisins that come coated in youghurt and the home-set youghurts. They do have a good selection of pickles and preserved meats too if anyone is interested. The garden section is lovely but again very expensive you can also have fun and refreshment in their cafe which is very pleasant.
